Download or read book Poland s Transformation written by Marek Jan Chodakiewicz and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poland has carried out two peaceful revolutions in the span of one generation: first, the self-limiting movement of Solidarity, which undermined the legitimacy of Communism and then a negotiated transfer of power from Communism to free market democracy. Today, while Poland is seen as a success story and is joining political and economic associations in the democratic West, Poles themselves seem downcast. They ask: is social anomie a price worth paying for a successful transformation? In making moral compromises with an outgoing tyranny, can one avoid cynicism and disappointment with democracy? Zbigniew Brzezinski, professor of American Foreign Policy at Johns Hopkins University has called Polish Transformation "a work that provides a comprehensive as well as incisive overview of the extraordinary difficult and historically unprecedented process of transforming an increasingly corrupt and decayed totalitarian system into a modern democracy." John Lenczowski, director of the Institute of World Politics, adds that "this extremely useful volume explains the essential elements of the post-communist political transition in Poland. Its authors convey...the cultural and ideological underpinnings that can be captured only by authorities who have developed over a lifetime that special sixth sense for detecting the elusive and unquantifiable soul of a country." Radek Sikorski, the executive director of the New Atlantic Initiative at the American Enterprise Institute, writes that "we should be grateful to the authors and editors of this thoughtful volume for asking questions which remain relevant for that uncomfortably large part of humanity that still lives under totalitarian or authoritarian regimes." Marek Jan Chodakiewicz holds the Kosciuszko chair in Polish Studies at the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. He is the author of After the Holocaust: Polish-Jewish Conflict in the Wake of World War II and Between Nazis and Soviets: A Case Study of Occupation Politics in Politics, 1939-1947. John Radzilowski is author and editor of numerous works ranging from Polish to East European history. Darius Tolczyk is associate professor of Slavic Languages at the University of Virginia. He is the author of See No Evil: Literary Cover-Ups and Discoveries of the Soviet Camp Experience.
Download or read book Transformation a Work in Progress written by Al Edmondson and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-04-08 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God created us for good works that were planned in ages past. He knew the future and our place in it. While participation is a duty clearly stated in scripture, many Christians are unaware of God’s desire for their mobilization. Others may not be carefully listening for his voice or, regrettably, dismissing him as if their participation is optional. No Christian is exempt from his command to be transformed into spiritual awareness, to grow in biblical knowledge, and in parallel, to participate in the building of his kingdom. The disengaged miss the joy-filled opportunities that enable personal growth through work that fulfills their responsibilities within the church body. The earth is blooming with 7.5 billion souls. More than ever before the entire body must mobilize to effectively represent the stature of Christ. We are his hands, his feet, his fragrance, and his voice in our world. This twelve-week study lays out God’s plan to advance the gospel and discipleship through the work of his redeemed family, endowed by the Holy Spirit with gifts and power to change our world. The study addresses issues that weaken Christian resolve, compete for our attention and time, and even cripple his people. These issues require a serious call to duty.
Download or read book Technological Progress and the Transformation of China s Economic Development Mode written by Wen Xiao and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how technological progress accelerates the transformation of economic development by adopting a fundamental logical approach to technological progress, intensive inputs, and promotion of productive efficiency to transformation of economic development. It investigates the internal mechanisms and the choice of corresponding modes that initiate technological progress to accelerate the transformation of economic development at three basic research levels: micro-enterprise level, mid-industry level and macro-economy level. Based on the above research, the book summarizes four dimensions facilitating the transformation: agricultural intensification, new industrialization, modernization of the service industry and the advanced manufacturing industry, and linkage of the modern service industry. This book is especially valuable in its hierarchical categorization covering theoretical, empirical, industrial and strategic exploration. On one hand, it analyzes the mechanisms and approaches influencing the transformation of economic development driven by technological progress from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. On the other hand, based on the introduction of advanced international experiences, it probes into the guarantee basis for the strategic implementation and the corresponding mode choices of the transformations. Furthermore, it offers specific policy proposals from both the macro level of how technological progress promotes the transformation of economic development and the micro level covering the agricultural, industrial and service industries.

Download or read book Transformations in Higher Education Governance in Asia written by Darryl S. L. Jarvis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents experimentation with various policy and governance approaches that produce structural differences in the composition and organisation of Asia’s higher education systems. In view of the wide variation in the public and private provision of higher education, it showcases how issues of access, equity and modes of participation are addressed, how institutional and programme quality are managed and how academic labour is treated and developed. The book both maps these differences and analyses the country-level dynamics, policy approaches and the problems faced by a variety of states in Asia in the race to develop competitive higher education systems. Focusing on the intersection of governance and higher education policy, it addresses the challenges facing higher education in Asia and the national responses of governments in terms of the organisation of the sector.
