Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Dennis Covington, what began as a journalistic assignment - covering the trial of an Alabama preacher convicted of attempting to murder his wife with poisonous snakes - would evolve into a headlong plunge into a bizarre, mysterious, and ultimately irresistible world of unshakable faith: the world of holiness snake handling, where people drink strychnine, speak in tongues, lay hands on the sick, and, some claim, raise the dead. Set in the heart of Appalachia, Salvation on Sand Mountain is Covington's unsurpassed and chillingly captivating exploration of the nature, power, and extremity of faith - an exploration that gradually turns inward, until Covington finds himself taking up the snakes. Book The Serpent and the Soul

Download or read book The Serpent and the Soul written by Katie Souza and published by Charisma Media. This book was released on 2024-09-03 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healing cannot happen unless you confront the demonic strongholds attacking you. After reading this book, you will discover the strategies of Python, and Leviathan; identify their primary targets; and learn how to defeat them. You will gain confidence and understanding to sever the strongholds gripping your life. Instead of being constricted by serpent spirits, you will walk free in the power of Christ. Jesus gave us the power to trample serpents and have authority of the power of the enemy in Luke 10:19. Isaiah 27:1-3 identifies Leviathan as a twisting, fleeing serpent. This spirit operates in relationships at all levels and twists people's words, shooting darts between people and causing division. Not only does it ruin relationships, but healing minister Katie Souza believes it ruins our health and our daily lives. The Serpent and the Soul shows you the many ways we allow the Leviathan (serpent) spirit into our lives and the impact it has on us. Python is another serpent spirit and it constricts our finances and causes lack and misalignment in our lives and our physical bodies. So many misunderstand or overlook the connection between idolatry, witchcraft, and these serpent spirits and the impact they have our bodies. Souza has seen this time and time again throughout her years of ministry. But there is good news. You can break the serpents' deadly grip through genuine repentance of pride, unforgiveness, and other doors these spirits use to gain access to your life. Your relationships can thrive again, and you can prosper and live in health and peace. This book will impart biblical understanding of Python, Leviathan, and other serpent spirits and provide you with powerful prayers and spiritual tools for breaking free from their control. God's healing, restoration, and prosperity are available to you when you break the connection of the serpent and the soul.

Book The Message of Acts in Codex Bezae vol 3

Download or read book The Message of Acts in Codex Bezae vol 3 written by Josep Rius-Camps and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2007-09-13 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third volume in the four-volume commentary on the Book of Acts, this work presents a fresh look at the text of Codex Bezae and compares its message with that of the more familiar Alexandrian text of which Codex Vaticanus is taken as a representative. It deals with Acts 13.1-18.23, the chapters that cover the first two stages of the mission to the Gentiles, with the intervening meeting in Jerusalem (14.28-15.41). For each section, there is a side by side translation of the Bezan and Vaticanus manuscripts, followed by a full critical apparatus which deals with more technical matters, and finally, a commentary which explores in detail the differences in the message of the two texts. Of particular interest in this part of Acts are the person of Paul and the unfolding of his character and theology. It is found that in the Bezan text Luke portrays him as a fallible disciple of Jesus who, despite his powerful enthusiasm, is hindered by his traditional Jewish understanding from fully carrying out the mission entrusted to him in these first stages. The conclusion is drawn that the portrait of an exemplary hero in the Alexandrian text is a later modification of the flawed picture.

Download or read book The Dragon in the West written by Daniel Ogden and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of how the image and idea of the dragon has evolved through history How did the dragon get its wings? Everyone in the modern West has a clear idea of what a dragon looks like and of the sorts of stories it inhabits, not least devotees of the fantasies of J. R. R. Tolkien, J. K. Rowling, and George R. R. Martin. A cross between a snake and some fearsome mammal, often sporting colossal wings, they live in caves, lie on treasure, maraud, and breathe fire. They are extraordinarily powerful, but even so, ultimately defeated in their battles with humans. What is the origin of this creature? The Dragon in the West is the first serious and substantial account in any language of the evolution of the modern dragon from its ancient forebears. Daniel Ogden's detailed exploration begins with the drakōn of Greek myth and the draco of the dragon-loving Romans, and a look at the ancient world's female dragons. It brings the story forwards though Christian writings, medieval illustrated manuscripts, and the lives of dragon-duelling saints, before concluding with a study of dragons found in the medieval Germanic world, including those of the Anglo-Saxon Beowulf and the Norse sagas.

Jesus said no one would know the hour of his return for his faithful followers, but he did identify signs of the end times. The rapid rise of wickedness, immorality, wanton violence, and every other form of evil have led spiritually discerning people to recognize we are in the last days. Due to a lack of knowledge, many who were once on the path leading to eternal life have fallen asleep and strayed from it, weakening the church. This may well be our merciful Heavenly Father’s last call for his church to wake up and prepare for the final hour. Inspired by a divine visitation and vision, Last Call will... • Allow the Holy Spirit to give you the knowledge that will empower you to live a truly Christlike life • Transform your life as you allow God to pierce your heart with the insights and truths on each page • Equip you to be ready to meet your Savior when he comes, and not to be among those who will be left behind • Deepen your love for God, the one who holds your eternity in his hands In essence, Last Call is a love letter to the church—one that every Christian should read. He is calling out to those with ears to hear his voice, eyes to see his plan and purpose, and hearts set on obedience to him. It will inspire you to draw closer to Christ than ever before, to be blessed like never before.
