Book Contracts in Trade and Transition

Download or read book Contracts in Trade and Transition written by Dalia Marin and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An institutional approach to explaining countertrade and barter in international trade and domestic trade in transition economies. Difficulties in contract enforcement impede international transactions in the world economy and domestic transactions in transition economies. In Contracts in Trade and Transition, Dalia Marin and Monika Schnitzer explain how barter as an economic institution can facilitate contract enforcement across national borders in international trade and within borders in transition countries. The authors show that international countertrade—tying an export to an import—emerged in the 1980s in response to the international debt crisis when Western creditors refused to finance imports to developing countries and Eastern Europe. Barter—the exchange of goods without the use of money—reemerged in transition economies in the 1990s in response to a domestic debt crisis when banks in transition countries were reluctant to provide finance to firms. Countertrade and barter introduce a deal-specific form of collateral that addresses the lack of creditworthiness of countries and firms. Drawing on contract theory, the authors argue that parties might want to pay in goods rather than cash or link an export with an import as in countertrade to solve incentive problems that otherwise would prevent any trade from taking place. The incentive problems they discuss are the technology transfer problem to developing countries and the "lack of trust" problem in the former Soviet Union.

Book Opening Up and Geographic Diversification of Trade in Transition Economies

Download or read book Opening Up and Geographic Diversification of Trade in Transition Economies written by Mr. Oli Havrylyshyn and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1998-02-01 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper looks at the progress in transition and the geographic diversification of trade, focusing on two issues--the degree of trade openness and trade integration--for a sample of countries in transition. It concludes that about half of the group of countries sampled are becoming as open as similar market economies, but that many others remain relatively closed. Geographic diversification (to the European Union) is found to be greater the closer is geographic proximity and the more advanced the country is with reforms. The analysis is then extended, in an illustrative way, to show how much larger would be the share of exports to the EU if structural reforms were more ambitious.

Book Transition Trading

Download or read book Transition Trading written by Stephen Paul Blake and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen Paul Blake lives in Fruit Cove, outside Jacksonville, Florida and is the single Dad of Matthew and Austin. He has been blessed to receive the Eagle Scout and Vigil Honors from the Boy Scouts of America, along with Six Sigma Green Belt and Professional Engineering Registrations. Even after graduating from Duke Engineering, his life was still not always on an even keel, but then was a good moment to rededicate and begin to really grow in the Lord. With that faith his work brought him to the Carolinas, Upstate New York, and Florida. Stephen found construction project work to be steady, gaining the administrative, field, and managerial skills needed for senior responsibilities. Large projects that called for estimating and progress tracking spreadsheets became his specialty, as can be seen with a quick look through Transition Trading. After a generation of construction project involvement, he decided to incorporate Workplace Management Inc. to share his process and project management experience. It was during that time he was introduced to the modern trading and analytical software era. Success was fleeting, so after helping a couple of clients, he went back to the regular work force - the Job. This last employment made him "lie down in green pastures" in order to learn a new skill. Yet after experiencing many trading books, day trading restrictions, and poor options forecasts, his interest had waned. That apathy ended when Stephen discovered the ultimate in leverage and liquidity in the stock index futures class - the E-Mini. Months of honing the trading rules, developing the habits to follow them, and completing work assignments has led to the point where he can start helping others and sharing the Gospel - the Calling. No doubt God has been working in his life. Can He do the same for you?

Book Trade and Transitions

Download or read book Trade and Transitions written by Marsha Chandler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-01-14 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faced with increased levels of international competition and mounting budget deficits some developed, Western economies have responded by introducing trade restrictions. This book uses a comparative analysis of eight leading industrial nations (including Japan, the United States, West Germany and Britain) to demonstrate that such policies are mistaken. Alternatives to trade restrictions, including subsidies for industries and labour-market policy instruments are also shown to have their drawbacks, and the book emphasises the need for countries to find and exploit policies which fulfil their own political and social needs but which are least injurious to their trading partners.
