Book Towards an Adventist Version of Communio Ecclesiology

Download or read book Towards an Adventist Version of Communio Ecclesiology written by Tihomir Lazić and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how Seventh-day Adventists, like other Christians, can benefit from generating their own version of communio ecclesiology. It starts by offering a critical analysis of the status quo of the existing Adventist portrayal of church as remnant, and suggests potential ways of moving this tradition forward. To articulate a more rounded and comprehensive vision of the church’s rich and multifaceted relational nature, this book draws on the mainstream Christian koinonia-based framework. Consequently, it provides possible solutions to some of the most divisive ecclesial issues that Christian communities face today regarding church structure, ministry, mission, communal interpretation, and reform. As it sets on a new footing the conversation between Adventism and other mainstream Christian traditions, the methodology of this book serves as a pathway for any Christian community to use when revisiting and enhancing its own current theologies of the church.

Book Stolen Churches or Bridges to Orthodoxy

Download or read book Stolen Churches or Bridges to Orthodoxy written by Vladimir Latinovic and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout their shared history, Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches have lived through a very complex and sometimes tense relationship – not only theologically, but also politically. In most cases such relationships remain to this day; indeed, in some cases the tension has increased. In July 2019, scholars of both traditions gathered in Stuttgart, Germany, for an unprecedented conference devoted to exploring and overcoming the division between these churches. This book, the first in a two-volume set of the essays presented at the conference, explores historical and theological themes with the goal of healing memories and inspiring a direct dialogue between Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches. Like the conference, the volume brings together representatives of these Churches, as well as theologians from different geographical contexts where tensions are the greatest. The published essays represent the great achievements of the conference: willingness to engage in dialogue, general openness to new ideas, and opportunities to address difficult questions and heal inherited wounds.

Book Adventist Interchurch Relations

Download or read book Adventist Interchurch Relations written by Stefan Höschele and published by V&R Unipress. This book was released on 2022-09-05 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents the first comprehensive analysis of Seventhday Adventist interchurch relations – a 20-million member body whose ecumenical stance has so far been underresearched. For the sake of interpreting denominational involvement and reservations in Adventism as well as beyond, the study develops a new academic approach to ecumenism based on Relational Models Theory, a comprehensive social science paradigm of interpreting human relationships. The resulting typology of ecumenical interactions and the historical case study of Adventism suggest that such a relational interpretation of ecumenical interaction sheds light on many of the unresolved issues in ecumenics – such as divergent concepts of unity, difficulties in recognition processes, and the permanence of denominationalism.

Book Seventh Day Adventism in Africa

Download or read book Seventh Day Adventism in Africa written by Gabriel Masfa and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the complex history of Adventism in Africa, situating it within the context of African traditions and culture. From a small movement with origins in the United States, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has grown worldwide. It is one of several Christian denominations present in Africa and yet the history of Seventh-day Adventism in the global South has been largely unexplored by scholars. The book highlights the discrepancies between western traditions exhibited in the missionary enterprise and African religious systems. It also explores the intricate relation between colonialism and African Adventism in line with established studies in African Christianity. It will be of interest to scholars of religion and theology, particularly church history and mission studies, as well as African studies.

Book Communion Ecclesiology

Download or read book Communion Ecclesiology written by Dennis M. Doyle and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this new study Dennis Doyle notes that scholars as diverse as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and Edward Schillebeeckx have been quoted as saying that "communion ecclesiology" is the most basic way to characterize the nature of the church. Yet the term has often been caught up in the divide between left and right in a polarized church. Doyle shows that the notion of communion among God's people and between them and the triune God is a doctrine that allows for both solid, this-worldly community and a fundamental sense that the Church is essentially rooted in and convoked by God."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastoral care and its theology get a gentle boost from some of the best in the business of caring for the soul. When a person hurts, they often look to God. Several pathfinders give new light from their specialties, each one speaking powerfully, uniquely, and artfully from decades of experience. Dr. Amos Yong’s article on disability forwards the amazingly helpful term, “temporarily able-bodied.” Greek Orthodox Dr. Vasileios Thermos and Roman Catholic Dr. Robert Fastiggi enlighten next to the powerful testaments of Professor Godfrey Harold on South Africa and Dr. Samuel Yonas Deressa on Ethiopia. Each weathered author contributes universal insights into the grace of our great God and challenges pastors throughout the Christian world to kindly consider the heart of the afflicted. These finely hewn stones can be used by anyone in the ministry to sharpen their serve. Mattis and Maness offer this third collection from Testamentum Imperium with a prayer that these will open new avenues of sensitivity to the hearts and souls of those in travail and aid those who are called by God to serve those in pain.

Book Continuity and Change in Adventist Teaching

Download or read book Continuity and Change in Adventist Teaching written by Rolf J. Pöhler and published by Peter Lang Pub Incorporated. This book was released on 2000 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frankfurt/M., Berlin, Bern, Bruxelles, New York, Oxford, Wien. Friedensauer Schriftenreihe: Reihe A, Theologie. Bd. 3 Herausgegeben von Johann Gerhardt, Wolfgang Kabus, Horst Rolly und Udo Worschech This book provides the first in-depth treatment of the problem of doctrinal development from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective. The author investigates the extent, nature, and direction of Adventist doctrinal developments in the light of the religious background of the church and the sociological forces at work in it. He also analyzes the response of the church to doctrinal adjustments and discusses Ellen White's involvement in and conception of doctrinal change. The study concludes that Adventist teachings have been significantly affected by theological and hermeneutical developments under the impact of sociological forces that tended to move the church closer towards evangelical Protestantism. Ellen White, co-founder of the church, was personally involved in theological change; her concept of doctrinal development reflects a remarkable depth of insight and represents a well-balanced approach to the subject. Contents: Adventist theology between tradition and renewal: a survey - Adventist conceptions of doctrinal development: an assessment - Prophetic authority and doctrinal change: an analysis.

Book Dynamic Truth

Download or read book Dynamic Truth written by Rolf Pöhler and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-08-28 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DYNAMIC TRUTH is a reprint of the author's groundbreaking dissertation on Change in Seventh-day Adventist Theology. Submitted in 1995 and initially published in 1999 (Part I) and 2000 (Part II), it is the first and only in-depth study to date dealing with the issue of doctrinal development from an Adventist perspective. Part I analyzes the intricate problem of doctrinal development and presents a historical survey of theories of doctrinal change, classifying them in three ideal types. In the author's view, a dialectic approach concerned about substantial continuity as well as authentic change can best avoid the pitfalls of dogmatic immobilism and revisionism. Part II provides a detailed study of the problem of doctrinal change in a Seventh-day Adventist setting. It analyzes the extent, nature, and direction of doctrinal developments in the light of the religious background of the church and the social forces at work in it. It also discusses the church's response to doctrinal adjustments and Ellen G. White's involvement in, and conception of, doctrinal change. The study concludes that Adventist teachings have been significantly affected by theological and hermeneutical developments under the impact of social forces nudging the church closer towards evangelical Protestantism. Ellen White, co-founder of the church, was personally involved in theological change. Her concept of doctrinal development shows a remarkable depth of insight and presents a well-balanced approach to the dynamics of faith and truth.

Book Receptive Ecumenism As Transformative Ecclesial Learning

Download or read book Receptive Ecumenism As Transformative Ecclesial Learning written by Paul D. Murray and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-16 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Receptive Ecumenism asks not what other churches can learn from us, but 'what can we learn and receive with integrity from our ecclesial others?' Since the publication of Receptive Ecumenism and the Call to Catholic Learning: Exploring a Way for Contemporary Ecumenism (OUP, 2008), this fresh ecumenical strategy has been adopted, critiqued, and developed in different Christian traditions, and in local, national, and international settings, including the most recent bilateral dialogue of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC III). The thirty-eight chapters in this new volume, by academics, church leaders, and ecumenical practitioners who have adopted and adapted Receptive Ecumenism in various ecclesial and cultural contexts, show how Receptive Ecumenism has grown and matured. Part One demonstrates how Receptive Ecumenism itself is capable of being received with integrity into very different ecclesiologies and ecclesial traditions. In Part Two, this approach to transformative ecumenical learning is applied to some recurrent ecclesial problems, such as the understanding and practice of ministry, revealing new insights and practical opportunities. Part Three examines the potential and challenges for Receptive Ecumenism in different international settings. Part Four draws on scripture, hermeneutics, and pneumatology to offer critical reflection on how Receptive Ecumenism itself implements transformative ecclesial learning. Addressing the 70th Anniversary of the World Council of Churches, Archbishop Justin Welby, said that 'One of the most important of recent ecumenical developments has been the concept of Receptive Ecumenism'. This volume provides an indispensable point of reference for understanding and applying that concept in the life of the Christian churches today.
