While species extinction and animal abuse are major problems, wildlife trafficking is also associated with corruption, national insecurity, spread of zoonotic disease, undercutting sustainable development investments and erosion of cultural resources, among others. The role of women in wildlife trafficking has remained woefully under-addressed, with scientists and policymakers failing to consider the important causes and consequences of the gendered dimensions of wildlife trafficking. Although the roles of women in wildlife trafficking are mostly unknown, they are not unknowable. This volume helps fill a lacuna by examining the roles and experiences of women with case studies drawn from across the world, including Mexico, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, South Africa and Norway. Women can be wildlife trafficking preventors, perpetrators, and pawns; their roles in facilitating wildlife trafficking are considered from both a supply and a demand viewpoint. Poaching has also been affected by fast economic development in India andthe region, which has given rise to increased demand of wildlife. Protected areas, createdto conserve wildlife, face pressure from poaching and demographic growth. Economicdevelopments affect poaching and demographic changes and affect conservation. Analyzing this trend at the country and the global level can help predict future scenariosand develop effective strategies to reduce loss to biodiversity. We examined stakeholders' perspectives on wildlife policy development in India(Part 1) and analyzed poaching and other emerging threats to 3 different protected areas inIndia (Part 2). This analysis is based on the perceptions of the village communities livinginside and on the fringe of the protected areas. We also conducted a temporal and spatialanalysis of poaching in India from 1992-2006 (Part 3). This period sees the transformationof Indian economy following an economic liberalization process, which increased thedevelopment process. Finally, we analyzed the relationship between growth in theeconomy and wildlife conservation in India from a historical and statistical perspective(Part 4). This part also develops system feedback loop diagrams to determine possible10relationships between variables that are connected to conservation. The relationships arethen assessed at the global level to understand the impact of economic growth on wildlifeconservation and understand how it influences the endangered mammals and birds.

And Game cropping is defined as the taking of animals from a wild herd in numbers that will not endanger the viability of the wild population Most of the trade in wildlife is legal and provides much-needed revenue to range areas or source countries, many of which are located in developing countries or countries with economies in transition. However, according to Zimmerman, “The black market in illegal wildlife is now the second largest in the world—ranking only behind the trade in illegal drugs.” Therefore, the illegal trade, according to Cook et al, not only threatens survival and conservation of endangered species but also offers high rewards and low risks to those involved.
