Book Blueprint for a Healthier America 2016

Download or read book Blueprint for a Healthier America 2016 written by Laura M. Segal and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All Americans should have the opportunity to be as healthy as they can be. Every community should be safe from threats to its health. All individuals and families should have a high level of services that protect, promote and preserve their health, regardless of who they are or where they live. To realize these goals, the incoming Administration and Congress should make improving health a top priority. There is nothing more valuable to the nation than the health and vitality of the American people. Experts have identified top strategies and approaches for ways the public health and health systems can work better -- which is important, but far from sufficient. Where we live, learn, work and play can have a bigger impact on health than medical care alone. Working together, the public health, healthcare and social service systems can achieve a much stronger collective impact. Moving forward, we must build partnerships and leverage assets across the health system, mental and behavioral health systems, social and public services, the private sector and communities to work together toward the common aim of a Healthier America.

Book A Healthy America

Download or read book A Healthy America written by and published by National Governors Assn. This book was released on 1991 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report, presented by the National Governors' Association, explores the significant problems in the U.S. health care system and provides strategies that states can employ to affect reform. Health care costs continue to spiral out of control, consuming resources that are required for other basic needs such as education, housing, food, and family support. Total health spending has grown from less than 6 percent of the gross national product (GNP) in 1960 to about 12 percent in 1990. It is projected to reach 17 percent of the GNP by the year 2000. Despite the enormous costs expended, roughly 34 million nonelderly U.S. citizens have no health coverage at all. The governors present several strategies, in significant detail, which states can employ to bring about incremental, concrete reform. These strategies include reorienting the health care system toward preventive and primary care services; developing ways to encourage and help businesses find affordable health insurance for their employees; stabilizing coverage for employees already receiving health insurance; and making better use of incremental cost control strategies that currently are available to every governor. A 132-item list of references is included, as is information on recent regional hearings about potential state strategies for health care reform. (DB)
