Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRUE COURAGE IS FEARING GOD NOT MEN Throughout history, when nations have turned from God, He has raised up men to try to bring them back. The prophets, the apostles, Jesus, and even more recent Christians have all performed this role. Tough Guys of the Bible profiles men such as these. You will learn four common characteristics of courageous men so you can incorporate those virtues into your life. If you're already a Christian, the lives of the Tough Guys will challenge you to live boldly for Jesus even when it requires great risk and sacrifice. If you're not a Christian, don't reject Jesus because of weak men inside the church. Explore the claims of the Bible through the lives of men who followed God the most, not those who followed Him the least. Evaluate the courageous life of Jesus. We hope you choose to join the Tough Guys in following Him as well. "The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. Book Tough Guys and True Believers

Download or read book Tough Guys and True Believers written by John M. Robertson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some men are especially difficult to manage in the psychotherapy room. They are controlling, exploitive, rigid, aggressive, and prejudiced. In a word, they are Authoritarian. This book is a guide for therapists and counselors who work with these men, offering an understanding of their psychological development and providing empirically supported recommendations to work with them effectively. In the first part, Robertson describes several versions of authoritarian men. Some are Tough Guys (workplace bullies, abusive partners, sexual harassers), and others are True Believers (men who use religion to justify their authoritarian behavior). Robertson draws from a diverse literature in psychology, sociology, men’s studies, and neurobiology to describe the developmental histories and personalities of these men. Part two offers practical and specific strategies to assess and treat these wounded men—developing a masculine friendly alliance, respecting their personal and religious beliefs, and teaching them self-awareness and self-regulation skills. Throughout, Robertson emphasizes a reality that many therapists doubt: Some authoritarian men want to change their behavior, and are capable of doing so. This book presents an empathic and respectful view of a group of men too often written off as unmanageable and unchangeable.

Download or read book Learn To Live Toughen Up written by William Reid and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title, Learn to Live: Toughen Up along with the subtitle, Jesus is a Tough Guy, is meant to draw attention to the importance of learning the Bible and making proper application to Christian living. The purpose of this book is to help people make the connection between the Bible and personal problem solving. I believe the Bible has the answer or solution to every problem. The most difficult part of problem solving is figuring out how to find the solution and make the application. We have become familiar with Donald Trump's phrase, "Make America Great Again." Adaptations of the phrase have popped up everywhere. I think the church should adopt the phrase, "Make the Bible Great Again." It's time to close the gap between problem solving and biblical understanding. God is the "Answer Man." The Bible is the "Answer Book." Jesus is the "world's greatest teacher." Therefore, we should become great learners. That's how we "Learn to Live." This book is an analysis of how Jesus dealt with his problems. He is our prime example for problem solving, behavior and attitude. Jesus was loving, kind, and compassionate; but he also was very tough. Every great person in the Bible was a tough guy, and every great woman was a tough gal. We just need to take our Bible and Learn to Live: Toughen Up. I want to follow a tough leader. Jesus was a Tough Guy.

Book excerpt: Hank Hanegraaff has been president of the Christian Research Institute since 1989. He is credited with authoring several books and also has been the host of The Bible Answer Man radio program. However, over the last few years a great deal of evidence has been unearthed to indicate that Hanegraaff's presidency is laced with multiple problems that need to be examined. In this ground-breaking book Jay Howard discusses many issues that show a blatant disregard for truth by the current CRI president. These and many more questions will be dealt with in the pages of Hard Questions for The Bible Answer Man: [ Was Hanegraaff really Walter Martin's handpicked-successor? [ Did Walter Martin's widow plan to endorse him, as the next CRI president, during the funeral? [ Is it really necessary for a president of a Christian nonprofit organization to make over $250,000 a year? [ Why did he fire so many key people after he took over in 1989? [ Was he equipped to take over The Bible Answer Man program in 1991? [ Why did CRI buy him a $66,000 Lexus sports car in 2004 while they were laying off staff? [ Did the post office in Rancho Santa Margarita really misdirect CRI's mail for three months at the end of 2004? [ Is his Personal Witness Training manual a plagiarism of Evangelism Explosion by D. James Kennedy? [ Why does he need to live in a one million dollar house in a gated community in North Carolina?

Book The Bible According to Mark Twain

Download or read book The Bible According to Mark Twain written by Mark Twain and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects the most important writings by Mark Twain in which he used biblical settings, themes, and figures. Featuring Twain's singular portrayals of God, Adam, Eve, Satan, Methuselah, Shem, St. Peter, and others, the writings stand among Twain's most imaginative expressions of his views on human nature and humankind's relation to the Creator and the universe. Composed over four decades (1871-1910), the writings range from farce to fantasy to satire, each one bearing the mark of Twain's unmistakable wit and insight. Among the many delights in store for readers are Adam and Eve's divergent accounts of their domestic troubles; Methuselah's discussion of an ancient version of baseball, complete with a parody of baseball jargon; Shem's hand-wringing account of how material shortages and labor troubles were hampering the progress of the ark his father, Noah, was building; a description of the disruptive actions of the fire-and-brimstone evangelist Sam Jones upon arriving in heaven; Captain Stormfield's revelations of what heaven is really like; Satan's musings on our puerile concepts of the afterlife; and Twain's advice on how to dress and tip properly in heaven. Twain's humor, however, is never gratuitous. As readers laugh their way through this volume, they will find ample evidence of Twain's concerns about scriptural fallacies and inconsistencies, the Bible's rather flat portrayal of important characters, and our limited notions about the nature and meaning of our own--and God's--existence. Many of the pieces in this collection, even the most lighthearted, might still be considered controversial; of some of the darker pieces, Twain himself acknowledged that they would be heretical in any age. Moreover, these writings are valuable cultural artifacts of a time when, across the Western world, fundamental religious beliefs were being called into question by the precepts of Darwinism and the rapid advances of science and technology. Several of this volume's selections are previously unpublished; others, like Letters from the Earth, are classics. Virtually all have been newly edited to reflect as closely as possible Twain's final intentions for their form and content. For serious Twain devotees, editors Howard G. Baetzhold and Joseph B. McCullough have supplied an abundance of background material on the writings, including details on the history of their composition, publication, and relevance to the Twain canon.

Book excerpt: Men today have locked horns with their toughest issue: reclaiming the full potential of manhood. But in the midst of the excitement -- the meetings, rallies, seminars, and high-fives -- is something vital missing? What gives manhood definition and meaning? In The Silence of Adam, Dr. Larry Crabb and his colleagues, biblical scholar Don Hudson and counselor Al Andrews, offer a fresh look at how God designed men. They draw from neglected biblical data and their own professional experience to help us explore - manhood's lost vision - the problems of masculine community - the power of mentoring relationships -- The Silence of Adam deals thoughtfully and honestly with men's ongoing struggles and exposes the difficulties they have in relationships. It presents the rich calling men have to reveal God in ways uniquely masculine. And it summons them beyond their paralyzing fear of failure to bold risk-taking, action, deep spirituality, and full-hearted living.
