Book Total Joint Replacement

Download or read book Total Joint Replacement written by Susan K. Frey and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Of all the health issues facing Americans over the age of 65, osteoarthritis is one of the most significant in terms of volumes and health care costs, with patients electing total joint replacement surgery in record numbers. At Methodist Hospital, the VHS used for preoperative total joint teaching was outdated in terms of content and technology. This project was designed and planned to update the content and technology through a multidisciplinary collaborative. The literature review provided evidence affirming that pre-operative total joint replacement education and preparation results in significant positive outcomes for the patient and the health care organization. In addition, the incorporation of DVD technology was shown to be an effective strategy to meet the educational needs of patients preparing for total joint replacement surgery. The theoretical/conceptual framework was three-fold, using Lippitt's theory of planned change, the path goal theory of leadership and Cross' theory of adult learning. A multidisciplinary team was formed consisting of nursing, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social services, health education and marketing. A script was written for each of the involved disciplines, and patient testimonials were woven throughout the introduction and conclusion. Through internal grant funding, the filming, editing, and DVD cover jacket design were contracted to a professional video production company. The DVD replicated and made accessible for patients unable to attend the preoperative total joint class. Evaluation of the product by actual patients unanimously confirmed that the DVD was useful and effective in preparing them for total joint surgery."--leaf 4.

Download or read book Joint Arthroplasty written by Shinichi Imura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of total joint arthroplasty throughout the world has contributed manifold benefits to patients who suffer from joint diseases. Concurrently, however, there has been an increase in revision surgery. Many orthopedic surgeons agree that durability of prostheses is an eternal problem. In particular, periprosthetic osteolysis recently has been identified as one of the serious problems affecting prosthetic dura bility. To improve durability, osteolysis and many other problems must be investi gated and solved both experimentally and clinically with respect to such aspects as prosthetic material, design, and biological and biomechanical behavior. This book comprises 37 papers that were presented by orthopedic surgeons and biomedical engineers at the 28th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Replace ment Arthroplasty, held in March 1998 in Kanazawa, Japan. The volume is thus a compilation of the latest knowledge about the pathogenesis and reduction of osteolysis and wear, newly developed total hip prostheses, and other current topics of total knee arthroplasty. We earnestly hope that this book will be of benefit to clinicians and researchers, and that it will contribute to the creation of more durable total joint prostheses in the future.
