Book Event by event Fluctuations in Relativistic Heavy ion Collisions and Their Consequences for Azimuthally Sensitive Hanbury Brown Twiss Interferometry

Download or read book Event by event Fluctuations in Relativistic Heavy ion Collisions and Their Consequences for Azimuthally Sensitive Hanbury Brown Twiss Interferometry written by Christopher J. Plumberg and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relativistic heavy-ion program is dedicated to systematically probing the properties of the atomic nucleus and the theory of quantum chromodynamics at extremely high temperatures and energy densities. Numerous observables have been developed and studied over the past several decades, allowing one to extract valuable information about heavy-ion collisions and their evolution, including total multiplicity, anisotropic flows, mean transverse momentum, interferometric radii, and so on. Many of these observables have been studied on an event-by-event basis, allowing them, along with their event-by-event probability distributions, to be used for constraining the role of event-by-event fluctuations in the evolution of heavy-ion collisions. In this thesis, I discuss the possibility of treating the Hanbury Brown-Twiss radii as event-by-event observables, and consider the ways in which their event-by-event probability distributions might be related to interesting theoretical quantities, such as transport coefficients in the quark-gluon plasma, or used to constrain viable models of the initial state in heavy-ion collisions.

Book Soft and Hard Probes of QCD Topological Structures in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Soft and Hard Probes of QCD Topological Structures in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by Shuzhe Shi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis makes significant advances in the quantitative understanding of two intrinsically linked yet technically very different phenomena in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Firstly, the thesis investigates the soft probe of strong interaction topological fluctuations in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) which is made possible via the anomalous chiral transport effects induced by such fluctuations. Here, the author makes contributions towards establishing the first comprehensive tool for quantitative prediction of the chiral magnetic effect in the QGP that is produced in heavy ion collision experiments. Secondly, the thesis deals with the hard probe of strongly coupled QGP created in heavy-ion collisions. In particular, this study addresses the basic question related to the nonperturbative color structure in the QGP via jet energy loss observables. The author further develops the CUJET computational model for jet quenching and uses it to analyze the topological degrees of freedom in quark-gluon plasma. The contributions this thesis makes towards these highly-challenging problems have already generated widespread impacts in the field of quark-gluon plasma and high-energy nuclear collisions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions László P. Csernai University of Bergen, Norway Written for postgraduates and advanced undergraduates in physics, this clear and concise work covers a wide range of subjects from intermediate to ultra-relativistic energies, thus providing an introductory overview of heavy ion physics. The reader is introduced to essential principles in heavy ion physics through a variety of questions, with answers, of varying difficulty. This timely text is based on a series of well received lectures given by Professor L. Csernai at the University of Minnesota, and the University of Bergen, where the author is based.

Book Study of Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions and Search for a Quark gluon Plasma Final Report

Download or read book Study of Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions and Search for a Quark gluon Plasma Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results for (Lambda) production by gold beams on gold targets were analyzed and published. The author completed the analysis of the Si-Si and Si-Lead data from previous runs. The results have been published in a series of papers. Major components of the STAR detector for RHIC have been built and have arrived at BNL. The detector continues to evolve and work continues on developing programs for the detector and simulating events and physics results that will be seen by it. The move is underway from design to physical construction to test and commissioning and some of the detector is taking shape. Much of the effort in the past year has gone into refining the detector design, looking at possible triggers, and developing a software system for simulating and eventually analyzing events. Building, commissioning, and operating this detector (including the software) will be a major effort over the coming years. The author studied the E810 Si-Pb full field data for positive-negative track correlations. He estimated the number of excited nucleons (N*'s) and Deltas in their region of measurement. From the relative population of ground state nucleons (pn, n) and excited nucleons he determined the freeze-out temperature of the hot system created in a high energy, heavy ion collision. Prof. Kramer was involved in the overall program for E881 and primarily in the software development for STAR while Mr. Efstathiadis had concentrated on understanding the data, i.e. primarily developing Monte Carlo programs to gain insight into the mechanisms important in the collisions and corrections needed in the analysis. The latest versions of GEANT were used to simulate the E891 apparatus and special programs were developed to be able to easily input STAR detector geometries into GEANT.

Book Jet Quenching in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC

Download or read book Jet Quenching in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC written by Aaron Angerami and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the first measurements of jets in relativistic heavy ion collisions as reported by the ATLAS Collaboration. These include the first direct observation of jet quenching through the observation of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry. Also, a series of jet suppression measurements are presented, which provide quantitative constraints on theoretical models of jet quenching. These results follow a detailed introduction to heavy ion physics with emphasis on the phenomenon of jet quenching and a comprehensive description of the ATLAS detector and its capabilities with regard to performing these measurements.
