Download or read book Dynamics of Pond Aquaculture written by Hillary S. Egna and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The culmination of over a decade's worth of research by the Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (CRSP), Dynamics of Pond Aquaculture not only explains the physical, chemical, and biological processes that interact in pond culture systems, but also presents real-world research findings and considers the people who depend on these systems. This book uses data from CRSP field research sites in East Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America, and North America to present a complete picture of the pond system and the environment in which it exists. A thorough study of the principles and practices of aquaculture, the book reflects the state of the art in pond aquaculture and incorporates recent advances that have changed the science in the last decade or so. It provides a thorough review of the many methods, techniques, and ideas that comprise this complex and fascinating area of study.

This book was released on 2022-05-25 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zambian Government, in collaboration with FAO, undertook the elaboration of this curriculum (part I) within the framework of the Zambia Aquaculture Enterprise Development Project (UTF/ZAM/077/ZAM). Furthermore, FAO complemented the practicality of this curriculum by drafting and refining the Training Manual (part II), which has been tested in many African countries and with different stakeholders. To ensure complementarity of opportunities and clear progression of education and capacity development, each actor involved in the sector should strive to network with teaching institutions, researchers and producers to guarantee that the curriculum remains relevant and stays abreast of developments for aquaculture practitioners; this will include developing national, regional and international linkages with institutions involved in aspects of training for aquaculture. Therefore, this curriculum will function as a living document.

Download or read book Farming Freshwater Prawns written by Michael B. New and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides information on the farming of Macrobrachium rosenbergii. Many of the techniques described are also applicable to other species of freshwater prawns that are being cultured. The manual is not a scientific text but is intended to be a practical guide to in-hatchery and on-farm management. The target audience is therefore principally farmers and extension workers. However, it is also hoped that, like the previous manual on this topic, it will be useful for lecturers and students alike in universities and other institutes that provide training in aquaculture.
Download or read book Introduction to the General Principles of Aquaculture written by Hans Ackefors and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to the General Principles of Aquaculture provides novice aquaculturists with an overview of the aquaculture industry so you may proceed successfully in academic studies or commercial ventures. The authors furnish you with insight into the history and development of aquaculture and cover the subjects of natural production versus aquaculture, the aquatic environment, energy requirements of and relationships in aquaculture systems, important components of aquaculture systems, selection of aquaculture species, major cultured species and their distribution, global aquaculture production, a comparison of agriculture and aquaculture, and those factors promoting and constraining aquaculture. The book is liberally illustrated so that students and laymen are able to visualize systems and species. Furthermore, tables and figures are used throughout to emphasize important points, facts, and methods. As an introductory text, it emphasizes several aspects of aquaculture that must be understood by those new to the industry. These aspects include water quality, species of importance around the world, and current and projected aquaculture production on a global basis. The important components of any aquaculture system are also covered in some detail--biological factors, technical-biological factors, technical-economic factors, production cost factors, socioeconomic factors, and species selection factors. Laypersons considering aquaculture as an investment and students considering aquaculture as a career, but who have no real background in agriculture and fisheries sciences, will find this book to be a key information source. Introduction to the General Principles of Aquaculture is written with the global market in mind and instructors will find it to be a useful introductory text at the undergraduate level. Persons in advisory capacities such as County Extension Agents, extension service specialists and bureaucrats in various arms of government who hav

This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The farm structures in the countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia are highly diverse, but in most of the countries are still largely dominated by smallholders and family farms. Supporting smallholders and family farms is one of four priorities for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Europe and Central Asia, confirmed by the FAO Regional Conference in 2018. FAO established in the region in 2014 the Regional Initiative on Empowering Smallholders and Family Farms for Improved Rural Livelihoods and Poverty Reduction (Regional Initiative 1) as a programmatic umbrella for the implementation of support to smallholders and family farms in the programme countries in the region. During 2018-2019, FAO REU conducted country studies on the needs and constraints of smallholders and family farms in eight countries of the region. Seven of these were funded from a regional project (TCP/RER/3601) and the Serbian study was financed from extra budgetary funds. The countries were selected from among those where smallholders and family farms dominate the farm structures and from the various sub-regions so that together they provide a regional overview. The countries covered in the report are Albania, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia and Tajikistan. The methodology was common among the eight country studies, although with some variations from country to country due to differences in national contexts. The eight studies were elaborated by national experts supported by international consultants and FAO technical guidance. The research methodology combines the use of desk research and statistics, interviews with key stakeholders, workshops with key stakeholders and decision makers, and the use of qualitative cases.
