Book Boundary Element Topics

Download or read book Boundary Element Topics written by W.L. Wendland and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The so-called boundary element methods BEM, i.e. finite element approxima tions of boundary integral equations have been improved recently even more vividly then ever before and found some remarkable support by the German Research Foundation DFG in the just finished Priority Research Program "boundary element methods" . When this program began, we could start from several already existing particular activities which then during the six years initiated many new re sults and decisive new developments in theory and algorithms. The program was started due to encouragement by E. Stein, when most of the later par ticipants met in Stuttgart at a Boundary Element Conference 1987. Then W. Hackbusch, G. Kuhn, S. Wagner and W. Wendland were entrusted with writing the proposal which was 1988 presented at the German Research Foun dation and started in 1989 with 14 projects at 11 different universities. After German unification, the program was heavily extended by six more projects, four of which located in Eastern Germany. When we started, we were longing for the following goals: 1. Mathematicians and engineers should do joint research. 2. Methods and computational algorithms should be streamlined with re spect to the new computer architectures of vector and parallel computers. 3. The asymptotic error analysis of boundary element methods should be further developed. 4. Non-linear material laws should be taken care of by boundary element methods for crack-mechanics. 5. The coupling of finite boundary elements should be improved.

Book Topics In Model Theory

Download or read book Topics In Model Theory written by Anand Pillay and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-04-29 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has two chapters. The first is a modern or contemporary account of stability theory. A focus is on the local (formula-by-formula) theory, treated a little differently from in the author's book Geometric Stability Theory. There is also a survey of general and geometric stability theory, as well as applications to combinatorics (stable regularity lemma) using pseudofinite methods. The second is an introduction to 'continuous logic' or 'continuous model theory,' drawing on the main texts and papers, but with an independent point of view. This chapter includes some historical background, including some other formalisms for continuous logic and a discussion of hyperimaginaries in classical first order logic. These chapters are based around notes, written by students, from a couple of advanced graduate courses in the University of Notre Dame, in Autumn 2018, and Spring 2021.

Book Structure and Regularity of Group Actions on One Manifolds

Download or read book Structure and Regularity of Group Actions on One Manifolds written by Sang-hyun Kim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-19 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theory of optimal and critical regularities of groups of diffeomorphisms, from the classical work of Denjoy and Herman, up through recent advances. Beginning with an investigation of regularity phenomena for single diffeomorphisms, the book goes on to describes a circle of ideas surrounding Filipkiewicz's Theorem, which recovers the smooth structure of a manifold from its full diffeomorphism group. Topics covered include the simplicity of homeomorphism groups, differentiability of continuous Lie group actions, smooth conjugation of diffeomorphism groups, and the reconstruction of spaces from group actions. Various classical and modern tools are developed for controlling the dynamics of general finitely generated group actions on one-dimensional manifolds, subject to regularity bounds, including material on Thompson's group F, nilpotent groups, right-angled Artin groups, chain groups, finitely generated groups with prescribed critical regularities, and applications to foliation theory and the study of mapping class groups. The book will be of interest to researchers in geometric group theory.
