  • Author : Phyllis Trible
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2002
  • ISBN : 9780334029007
  • Pages : 128 pages

Download or read book Texts of Terror written by Phyllis Trible and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Phyllis Trible examines four Old Testament narratives of suffering in ancient Israel: Hagar, Tamar, an unnamed concubine and the daughter of Jephthah. These stories are for Trible the "substance of life", which may imspire new beginnings and by interpreting these stories of outrage and suffering on behalf of their female victims, the author recalls a past that is all to embodied in the present, and prays that these terrors shall not come to pass again. "Texts of Terror" is perhaps Trible's most readable book, that brings biblical scholarship within the grasp of the non-specialist. These "sad stories" about women in the Old Testament prompt much refelction on contemporary misuse of the Bible, and therefore have considerable relevance today.

Book excerpt: Tomb of Terror #2It was the 1950's - the Atomic Age, the Cold War, and just the before the Space Race. Comics books were the education, the entertainment, and -- according to some -- the downfall of America. What a great time! We loved to be scared - still do, it seems - from the comfort of our own home, secure in the knowledge that there's no real danger (or so we think). Nothing could match the imagination, the surprise, and the chilling-of-your-spine like the great horror comics of yesteryear. Now you can enjoy again (or - for the first time) the colorful and scary stories that haven't seen print in many decades! The comic reprints from Golden Age Reprints and UP History and Hobby are reproduced from actual classic comics, and sometimes reflect the imperfection of books that are decades old. These books are constantly updated with the best version available - if you are EVER unhappy with the experience or quality of a book, return the book to us to exchange for another title or the upgrade as new files become available. Book The Republic Pictures Checklist

Download or read book The Republic Pictures Checklist written by Len D. Martin and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Republic Pictures Corporation, began as a motion picture laboratory in 1915. By 1935, Republic had become a studio and released its first movie, Westward Ho! starring a young John Wayne, who would stay with Republic for the next 17 years. Republic would go on to produce highly successful Westerns starring singing cowboys Gene Autry and Roy Rogers as well as serial adventure series. The studio cranked out so many exciting (not to mention money-making) serials that it became known as "The Thrill Factory." Occasionally, Republic would produce and distribute "A" features, such as Macbeth and The Quiet Man, but it was the "B" Westerns and adventure serials that they knew best how to produce and market. Until its demise in 1959, Republic fed hungry moviegoers with a steady diet of "B" Westerns, serials, dramas, series pictures and musicals. The Republic Pictures Checklist provides a full listing of Republic releases, with plot synopses, release dates, alternate titles, chapter titles and awards. All of Republic's output, including documentaries and training films, is included.
