Book The Secret

Download or read book The Secret written by Byron Preiss and published by ibooks. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

Book excerpt: "Demographic dividend, as defined by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) means, ""The economic growth potential that can result from shifts in a population’s age structure, mainly when the share of the working-age population (15 to 64) is larger than the non-working-age share of the population (14 and younger, and 65 and older)."" In other words, it is a boost in economic productivity that occurs when there are growing numbers of people in the workforce relative to the number of dependents. UNFPA stated, ""A country with both increasing numbers of young people and declining fertility has the potential to reap a demographic dividend." Due to the dividend between young and old, many argue that there is a great potential for economic gains, which has been termed the ""demographic gift"". In order for economic growth to occur, the younger population must have access to quality education, adequate nutrition and health including access to sexual and reproductive health. In near future India will be the largest individual contributor to the global demographic transition. A 2011 International Monetary Fund Working Paper found that substantial portion of the growth experienced by India since the 1980s is attributable to the country's age structure and changing demographics. By 2026, India's average age would be 29, which is least among the global average."

Book excerpt: The Treasure Punt is a delightfully-written and illustrated book in which corporate storyteller and human resources strategist Peter Christie uses the anecdotal form to bring home some important lessons for those on both sides of the job market: recruiters and people looking to be recruited. Christie's central metaphor is that of a pirate Captain (Captain Black-bug), representing a leader of a company, who sails the seven seas on his ship (The Bountiful), looking for treasure. Along the way Black-bug encounters many adventures, each of which teaches him something about making the best of his crew, and experiences, to maximise his material gain. If you read The Treasure Punt as a recruiter, you will find some powerful tools for bringing the right talent on-board in your organisation, and if you are a candidate, for making yourself a desirable workplace treasure. The book is a rollicking good read that will have you chuckling into your coffee cup, making complicated scenarios that stalk business seem simple and approachable, and imparting a sense of can-do confidence and savoir-faire.

The explosion of meth and fentanyl into America is an outrageous evil that is growing every day because those drugs are easy to make, and do not require any soil and water to grow, like marijuana, heroin, or cocaine. Plus, the cartels can buy inexpensive pill making machines which produce thousands of pills per hour that look like harmless prescription medicines, yet when shipped to the USA the profits to the cartels are worth billions. The death toll in America is skyrocketing because there are no controls on the contents of the pills and innocent young people are dying at an unheard-of rate. Billy is looking for treasure in the ancient ruins and Anne, a CIA agent, is working to stop the drug trafficking. Their work puts them in constant danger with their combined commitment to find treasure and save lives. The story also includes two incredibly talented Beagle dogs that help Billy maintain his reputation as the most famous treasure hunter in the world.

Book Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job Reasons to Believe

Download or read book Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job Reasons to Believe written by Hugh Ross and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job has a surprising amount to say about some of the newest scientific discoveries and controversies. Far from a book that is just about suffering, Job is filled with rich insight into both ancient and modern questions about the formation of the world the difference between animals and humans cosmology dinosaurs and the fossil record how to care for creation and more With careful consideration and exegesis, internationally known astrophysicist and Christian apologist Hugh Ross adds yet another compelling argument to the case for the veracity of the biblical commentary on the history of the universe, Earth, life, and humanity. Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job shows that the Bible is an accurate predictor of scientific discoveries and a trustworthy source of scientific information, and that both the book of Scripture and the book of nature are consistent both internally and externally.

But when Sir Rogan Chantry, the arrogant and handsome son of the local Squire, accuses Evy’s mother of stealing the infamous Kimberly Black Diamond, Evy sets out to prove the rogue wrong and clear her mother’s name. Secrets abound, however, from the diamond mines of South Africa to the halls of her own beloved rectory. Strangers come to Grimston Way for their own mysterious purposes, a stunned Evy finds that her own aunt and uncle may have concealed disturbing truths about her family, and the dashing Sir Rogan has his own reasons to seek the missing diamond. Yet despite Rogan’s seemingly rakish ways and the class differences that render a romance between them impossible, Evy finds herself drawn to the man who was once her childhood friend and now holds the keys to her heart. Faced with a dangerous past and an uncertain future, Evy must draw upon her wits and her faith to pursue Tomorrow’s Treasure. A story of faith, danger and romance, Tomorrow’s Treasure is a masterpiece of historical suspense fiction.
