Download or read book To an Effective Local Langlands Correspondence written by Colin J. Bushnell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2014-08-12 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let F be a non-Archimedean local field. Let \mathcal{W}_{F} be the Weil group of F and \mathcal{P}_{F} the wild inertia subgroup of \mathcal{W}_{F}. Let \widehat {\mathcal{W}}_{F} be the set of equivalence classes of irreducible smooth representations of \mathcal{W}_{F}. Let \mathcal{A}^{0}_{n}(F) denote the set of equivalence classes of irreducible cuspidal representations of \mathrm{GL}_{n}(F) and set \widehat {\mathrm{GL}}_{F} = \bigcup _{n\ge 1} \mathcal{A}^{0}_{n}(F). If \sigma \in \widehat {\mathcal{W}}_{F}, let ^{L}{\sigma }\in \widehat {\mathrm{GL}}_{F} be the cuspidal representation matched with \sigma by the Langlands Correspondence. If \sigma is totally wildly ramified, in that its restriction to \mathcal{P}_{F} is irreducible, the authors treat ^{L}{\sigma} as known. From that starting point, the authors construct an explicit bijection \mathbb{N}:\widehat {\mathcal{W}}_{F} \to \widehat {\mathrm{GL}}_{F}, sending \sigma to ^{N}{\sigma}. The authors compare this "naïve correspondence" with the Langlands correspondence and so achieve an effective description of the latter, modulo the totally wildly ramified case. A key tool is a novel operation of "internal twisting" of a suitable representation \pi (of \mathcal{W}_{F} or \mathrm{GL}_{n}(F)) by tame characters of a tamely ramified field extension of F, canonically associated to \pi. The authors show this operation is preserved by the Langlands correspondence.

Download or read book Automorphic Forms and Galois Representations Volume 1 written by Fred Diamond and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automorphic forms and Galois representations have played a central role in the development of modern number theory, with the former coming to prominence via the celebrated Langlands program and Wiles' proof of Fermat's Last Theorem. This two-volume collection arose from the 94th LMS-EPSRC Durham Symposium on 'Automorphic Forms and Galois Representations' in July 2011, the aim of which was to explore recent developments in this area. The expository articles and research papers across the two volumes reflect recent interest in p-adic methods in number theory and representation theory, as well as recent progress on topics from anabelian geometry to p-adic Hodge theory and the Langlands program. The topics covered in volume one include the Shafarevich Conjecture, effective local Langlands correspondence, p-adic L-functions, the fundamental lemma, and other topics of contemporary interest.

Download or read book Representations of Reductive p adic Groups written by Anne-Marie Aubert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of survey articles and original research papers in the representation theory of reductive p-adic groups. In particular, it includes a survey by Anne-Marie Aubert on the enormously influential local Langlands conjectures. The survey gives a precise and accessible formulation of many aspects of the conjectures, highlighting recent refinements, due to the author and her collaborators, and their current status. It also features an extensive account by Colin Bushnell of his work with Henniart on the fine structure of the local Langlands correspondence for general linear groups, beginning with a clear overview of Bushnell–Kutzko’s construction of cuspidal types for such groups. The remaining papers touch on a range of topics in this active area of modern mathematics: group actions on root data, explicit character formulas, classification of discrete series representations, unicity of types, local converse theorems, completions of Hecke algebras, p-adic symmetric spaces. All meet a high level of exposition. The book should be a valuable resource to graduate students and experienced researchers alike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polynomial approximation on convex polytopes in is considered in uniform and -norms. For an appropriate modulus of smoothness matching direct and converse estimates are proven. In the -case so called strong direct and converse results are also verified. The equivalence of the moduli of smoothness with an appropriate -functional follows as a consequence. The results solve a problem that was left open since the mid 1980s when some of the present findings were established for special, so-called simple polytopes.
Download or read book Motives written by Uwe Jannsen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994-02-28 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motives were introduced in the mid-1960s by Grothendieck to explain the analogies among the various cohomology theories for algebraic varieties, to play the role of the missing rational cohomology, and to provide a blueprint for proving Weil's conjectures about the zeta function of a variety over a finite field. Over the last ten years or so, researchers in various areas--Hodge theory, algebraic $K$-theory, polylogarithms, automorphic forms, $L$-functions, $ell$-adic representations, trigonometric sums, and algebraic cycles--have discovered that an enlarged (and in part conjectural) theory of ``mixed'' motives indicates and explains phenomena appearing in each area. Thus the theory holds the potential of enriching and unifying these areas. These two volumes contain the revised texts of nearly all the lectures presented at the AMS-IMS-SIAM Joint Summer Research Conference on Motives, held in Seattle, in 1991. A number of related works are also included, making for a total of forty-seven papers, from general introductions to specialized surveys to research papers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unital separable -algebra, is said to be locally AH with no dimension growth if there is an integer satisfying the following: for any and any compact subset there is a unital -subalgebra, of with the form , where is a compact metric space with covering dimension no more than and is a projection, such that The authors prove that the class of unital separable simple -algebras which are locally AH with no dimension growth can be classified up to isomorphism by their Elliott invariant. As a consequence unital separable simple -algebras which are locally AH with no dimension growth are isomorphic to a unital simple AH-algebra with no dimension growth.
Download or read book Towards a Modulo p Langlands Correspondence for GL 2 written by Christophe Breuil and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012-02-22 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors construct new families of smooth admissible $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$-representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(F)$, where $F$ is a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. When $F$ is unramified, these representations have the $\mathrm{GL}_2({\mathcal O}_F)$-socle predicted by the recent generalizations of Serre's modularity conjecture. The authors' motivation is a hypothetical mod $p$ Langlands correspondence.
Download or read book Period Functions for Maass Wave Forms and Cohomology written by R. Bruggeman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-08-21 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors construct explicit isomorphisms between spaces of Maass wave forms and cohomology groups for discrete cofinite groups Γ⊂PSL2(R). In the case that Γ is the modular group PSL2(Z) this gives a cohomological framework for the results in Period functions for Maass wave forms. I, of J. Lewis and D. Zagier in Ann. Math. 153 (2001), 191-258, where a bijection was given between cuspidal Maass forms and period functions. The authors introduce the concepts of mixed parabolic cohomology group and semi-analytic vectors in principal series representation. This enables them to describe cohomology groups isomorphic to spaces of Maass cusp forms, spaces spanned by residues of Eisenstein series, and spaces of all Γ-invariant eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator. For spaces of Maass cusp forms the authors also describe isomorphisms to parabolic cohomology groups with smooth coefficients and standard cohomology groups with distribution coefficients. They use the latter correspondence to relate the Petersson scalar product to the cup product in cohomology.

Download or read book The Optimal Version of Hua s Fundamental Theorem of Geometry of Rectangular Matrices written by Peter Šemrl and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2014-09-29 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hua's fundamental theorem of geometry of matrices describes the general form of bijective maps on the space of all m\times n matrices over a division ring \mathbb{D} which preserve adjacency in both directions. Motivated by several applications the author studies a long standing open problem of possible improvements. There are three natural questions. Can we replace the assumption of preserving adjacency in both directions by the weaker assumption of preserving adjacency in one direction only and still get the same conclusion? Can we relax the bijectivity assumption? Can we obtain an analogous result for maps acting between the spaces of rectangular matrices of different sizes? A division ring is said to be EAS if it is not isomorphic to any proper subring. For matrices over EAS division rings the author solves all three problems simultaneously, thus obtaining the optimal version of Hua's theorem. In the case of general division rings he gets such an optimal result only for square matrices and gives examples showing that it cannot be extended to the non-square case.
Download or read book The Geometry and Cohomology of Some Simple Shimura Varieties AM 151 written by Michael Harris and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2001-11-04 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims first to prove the local Langlands conjecture for GLn over a p-adic field and, second, to identify the action of the decomposition group at a prime of bad reduction on the l-adic cohomology of the "simple" Shimura varieties. These two problems go hand in hand. The results represent a major advance in algebraic number theory, finally proving the conjecture first proposed in Langlands's 1969 Washington lecture as a non-abelian generalization of local class field theory. The local Langlands conjecture for GLn(K), where K is a p-adic field, asserts the existence of a correspondence, with certain formal properties, relating n-dimensional representations of the Galois group of K with the representation theory of the locally compact group GLn(K). This book constructs a candidate for such a local Langlands correspondence on the vanishing cycles attached to the bad reduction over the integer ring of K of a certain family of Shimura varieties. And it proves that this is roughly compatible with the global Galois correspondence realized on the cohomology of the same Shimura varieties. The local Langlands conjecture is obtained as a corollary. Certain techniques developed in this book should extend to more general Shimura varieties, providing new instances of the local Langlands conjecture. Moreover, the geometry of the special fibers is strictly analogous to that of Shimura curves and can be expected to have applications to a variety of questions in number theory.
