Book excerpt: Recovering the Biblical Model Jesus promised to build His church and even the gates of hell will not prevail against it. He never intended that we should be the builders but He does use us. There are many discouraged pastors and leaders. The world has neither serious regard nor understanding of what the local church is to be. This book is an attempt to share some of the lessons and discoveries from forty-five years of pastoral ministry. My heart's desire is to encourage small and medium size church pastors and leaders who are tempted to feel insignificant in face of the awesome challenge. Most understand the purposes of the local churches. Programs for the churches abound. The key element, and central to this book, are these principles of church life in the New Testament. 1. Headship 2. Fellowship 3. Interaction 4. Integration 5. Gifts of the Spirit 6. Discipline 7. Commitment Donald Burnett entered the pastoral ministry as a student with two Methodist churches in 1960 at the age of twenty-two. He served several Methodist churches in Kentucky and South Carolina. He and his wife Loretta moved to Columbia SC in 1972 to plant a new non-denominational church. They continued at St. Andrews Evangelical for thirty-three years before retiring in 2005. They have two children, Don Jr. who is now pastor of St. Andrews, and Becky who is a church-planting missionary with TEAM in Italy. Burnett has been an adjunct professor at Columbia International University, SC state president of NAE, led weekly Bible studies in the governor's office for seven years and was presented the Order of the Palmetto from the governor.

Book The Privatization of State Education

Download or read book The Privatization of State Education written by Chris Green and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-04-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone who wants to know what is really happening in schools - behind all the hype and political rhetoric about the privatizing reforms in education - should read this book. It clarifies how private interests are influencing the public education process and investigates Labour's successes and failures. In plain English, it shows how schools are set up, run and held to account through testing and inspection and how they make judgements about the relative merits of different schools’ performances. It also indicates ways in which ordinary people can participate in shaping the future of education in order to achieve progress and better standards of achievement from schools and the education service generally. This is essential reading for all those concerned about the new future of our education system and of our children.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we have a personal relationship with God today? What does it require to become a believer? Is it possible to enter the presence of God like they did in the OT? Can anything from an old book like the Bible be used today? Does applying the Scriptures in the twenty-first century really answer today's questions for living life to the fullest? The Old and New Testaments reveal much about the character of God. Examples of both good and evil are revealed for our learning. The results of both good and evil are explained in detail, and we can see the results of each choice. As we read through the Bible, we see evidence of God's plan for mankind and opportunities to become more acquainted with Him. Working together with the Holy Spirit provides guidance and understanding that are intended to strengthen and help us. This wisdom has practical applications that provide a better way to handle life. He has revealed ways we can use to personalize a relationship with Him that can grow over time. Entering His Presence is possible today because of what Christ accomplished by his death, burial, and resurrection. The finished work of Christ has opened a gateway to the throne of God that was not available to each believer before. We become like the priests of old and have access to the Father. Old Testament rituals have been replaced with New Testament opportunities that seek Him and receive help and understanding. The sending of the Holy Spirit has provided us with the Helper that resides inside of every believer. We can have a personal relationship with our Creator. Entering His Presence is possible today because Christ broke down the barrier that once stood between God and man. Come join Him through the scriptural invitation that is extended to all. Experience the finished work of Christ right now-before His return. Now is the acceptable time to call upon His name and live life to the fullest and become ready for the eternity that awaits you!

Book excerpt: Few modern figures in the Reformed tradition are as widely influential as Abraham Kuyper, whose views on theology, politics, and Christian culture are renowned. His writings on worship, however, are not as well known. This new English translation of Onze Eredienst fills that gap, offering Kuyper s clearest thinking on worship and liturgy. Though written nearly a hundred years ago, his perspectives on worship are amazingly relevant to our time. / In a substantive introduction Harry Boonstra outlines Kuyper's life and the historical context in which he wrote. Adding even more luster to the volume are concluding essays by John Bolt, Bryan Spinks, Geoffrey Wainwright, and Nicholas Wolterstorff.
