Book Laser Induced Fluorescence Thermometry of a Weakly Ionized Radio Frequency Plasma

Download or read book Laser Induced Fluorescence Thermometry of a Weakly Ionized Radio Frequency Plasma written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are reported of two-line laser-induced fluorescence thermometry measurements in a weakly ionized, radiofrequency plasma. The work was performed in support of hypervelocity studies in the AEDC SI Impact Range. Rotational temperatures of nitric oxide were determined to be in the range 1000-2000 K, based on excitation of two lines in the NO A-X (0,0) band. A data analysis procedure is described for separating the weak, laser-induced fluorescence signals from natural emission from the plasma. By comparing temperatures from a strong and a weak beam, it is demonstrated that optical saturation is avoided. A strong correlation is found between the PLIF-derived NO temperatures and the intensity of natural emission from the plasma. This correlation is used to estimate the temperature distribution in the plasma outside the region that was accessible to interrogation by the laser sheets.

Book Time resolved Probing of Electron Thermal Conduction in Femtosecond laser pulse produced Plasmas

Download or read book Time resolved Probing of Electron Thermal Conduction in Femtosecond laser pulse produced Plasmas written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present time-resolved measurements of reflectivity, transmissivity and frequency shifts of probe light interacting with the rear of a disk-like plasma produced by irradiation of a transparent solid target with 0.1ps FWHM laser pulses at peak intensity 5 x 10{sup l4}W/CM2. Experimental results show a large increase in reflection, revealing rapid formation of a steep gradient and overdense surface plasma layer during the first picosecond after irradiation. Frequency shifts due to a moving ionization created by thermal conduction into the solid target are recorded. Calculations using a nonlinear thermal heat wave model show good agreement with the measured frequency shifts, further confining the strong thermal transport effect.

Book Doppler Shift Methods for Plasma Diagnostics

Download or read book Doppler Shift Methods for Plasma Diagnostics written by M. Sassi and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work to develop novel advanced laser spectroscopy plasma diagnostic methods is described. The methods are based on observing the doppler shift in the absorption liners of ionic species. Two methods under study are Velocity Modulated Laser Spectroscopy and Two Beam Doppler Shift Laser Spectroscopy. The theoretical basis of the methods is described and preliminary experimental results presented. Keywords: Laser diagnostics, Plasmas, Laser induced fluorescence, Doppler shift spectroscopy.

Book Diagnostics for Mapping a Laser induced Plasma

Download or read book Diagnostics for Mapping a Laser induced Plasma written by Daniel Shelby and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal here, then, is to develop a unified system that can interrogate these LIP's with as many spectroscopy techniques as is possible. Each technique lends more insight into the spatial and temporal structure within the plasma. A spatially selective emission strategy alongside two laser probe methods are evaluated for the purpose of mapping the plasma's evolution in space and time. Moreover, by using a fast detector coupled with fast electronics, an attempt at the direct experimental evaluation of time-resolved collisional rate constants at several delays of plasma evolution is described. This is believed to be the first time such an attempt has been made within a LIBS plasma.

Book Propagation Distance resolved Characteristics of Filament induced Copper Plasma

Download or read book Propagation Distance resolved Characteristics of Filament induced Copper Plasma written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Copper plasma generated at different filament-copper interaction points was characterized by spectroscopic, acoustic, and imaging measurements. The longitudinal variation of the filament intensity was qualitatively determined by acoustic measurements in air. The maximum plasma temperature was measured at the location of peak filament intensity, corresponding to the maximum mean electron energy during plasma formation. The highest copper plasma density was measured past the location of the maximum electron density in the filament, where spectral broadening of the filament leads to enhanced ionization. Acoustic measurements in air and on solid target were correlated to reconstructed plasma properties. Lastly, optimal line emission is measured near the geometric focus of the lens used to produce the filament.
