Book Elements of Nonlinear Time Series Analysis and Forecasting

Download or read book Elements of Nonlinear Time Series Analysis and Forecasting written by Jan G. De Gooijer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art of nonlinear time series analysis, richly illustrated with examples, pseudocode algorithms and real-world applications. Avoiding a “theorem-proof” format, it shows concrete applications on a variety of empirical time series. The book can be used in graduate courses in nonlinear time series and at the same time also includes interesting material for more advanced readers. Though it is largely self-contained, readers require an understanding of basic linear time series concepts, Markov chains and Monte Carlo simulation methods. The book covers time-domain and frequency-domain methods for the analysis of both univariate and multivariate (vector) time series. It makes a clear distinction between parametric models on the one hand, and semi- and nonparametric models/methods on the other. This offers the reader the option of concentrating exclusively on one of these nonlinear time series analysis methods. To make the book as user friendly as possible, major supporting concepts and specialized tables are appended at the end of every chapter. In addition, each chapter concludes with a set of key terms and concepts, as well as a summary of the main findings. Lastly, the book offers numerous theoretical and empirical exercises, with answers provided by the author in an extensive solutions manual.

Book Robust and Nonlinear Time Series Analysis

Download or read book Robust and Nonlinear Time Series Analysis written by J. Franke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical time series methods are based on the assumption that a particular stochastic process model generates the observed data. The, most commonly used assumption is that the data is a realization of a stationary Gaussian process. However, since the Gaussian assumption is a fairly stringent one, this assumption is frequently replaced by the weaker assumption that the process is wide~sense stationary and that only the mean and covariance sequence is specified. This approach of specifying the probabilistic behavior only up to "second order" has of course been extremely popular from a theoretical point of view be cause it has allowed one to treat a large variety of problems, such as prediction, filtering and smoothing, using the geometry of Hilbert spaces. While the literature abounds with a variety of optimal estimation results based on either the Gaussian assumption or the specification of second-order properties, time series workers have not always believed in the literal truth of either the Gaussian or second-order specifica tion. They have none-the-less stressed the importance of such optimali ty results, probably for two main reasons: First, the results come from a rich and very workable theory. Second, the researchers often relied on a vague belief in a kind of continuity principle according to which the results of time series inference would change only a small amount if the actual model deviated only a small amount from the assum ed model.

Book Time Series Analysis and Applications to Geophysical Systems

Download or read book Time Series Analysis and Applications to Geophysical Systems written by Enders Anthony Robinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-09-17 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time series methods are essential tools in the analysis of many geophysical systems. This volume, which consists of papers presented by a select, international group of statistical and geophysical experts at a Workshop on Time Series Analysis and Applications to Geophysical Systems at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) at the University of Minnesota from November 12-15, 2001 as part of the IMA's Thematic Year on Mathematics in the Geosciences, explores the application of recent advances in time series methodology to a host of important problems ranging from climate change to seismology. The works in the volume deal with theoretical and methodological issues as well as real geophysical applications, and are written with both statistical and geophysical audiences in mind. Important contributions to time series modeling, estimation, prediction, and deconvolution are presented. The results are applied to a wide range of geophysical applications including the investigation and prediction of climatic variations, the interpretation of seismic signals, the estimation of flooding risk, the description of permeability in Chinese oil fields, and the modeling of NOx decomposition from thermal power plants.

Book Reconstructing Keynesian Macroeconomics Volume 3

Download or read book Reconstructing Keynesian Macroeconomics Volume 3 written by Carl Chiarella and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the third of three volumes offering a complete reinterpretation and restructuring of Keynesian macroeconomics and a detailed investigation of the disequilibrium adjustment processes characterizing the financial, the goods and the labour markets and their interaction. This book offers a full treatment of the interlinkages between the real and the financial markets, including an analysis of banking, credit, and endogenous money and asset markets. It remains critical of quite frequently used conventional macro models that have dropped the tradition of studying the macroeconomic feedback channels, well-known in the history of macroeconomics. Those feedback mechanisms are known to have the potential for instabilities with respect to real markets, price dynamics and financial markets. In this volume a particular emphasis is given to the financial-real interaction. The research in this book with its focus on Keynesian propagation mechanisms provides a unique alternative to the black-box shock-absorber approaches that dominate modern macroeconomics. The main conclusion of the work is that policy makers need to reconsider Keynesian ideas, but in the modern form in which they are expressed in this volume. Reconstructing Keynesian Macroeconomics will be of interest to students and researchers who want to look at alternatives to the mainstream macrodynamics that emerged from the Monetarist critique of Keynesianism. This book will also engage central bankers and macroeconomic policy makers.
