Book Three Little Cowboys

Download or read book Three Little Cowboys written by Allyson Hendrickson and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three little cowboys call me "Mommy." Life with preschoolers is fun and crazy and exhausting. We laugh a lot, cry a little, and my story is worth telling (doesn't every parent think that?). Case in point: Although I try to avoid taking all three boys to the grocery store, the other day we were out of chicken and pickle chips. We can not live without either, so we made a grocery run. At the checkout counter, I got the usual comment from the cashier: "Three boys, huh? You sure do have your hands full!" To which Goliath replied: "And this isn't all, either. We have a dog, and a daddy, too!" ...Three weeks ago, Hubby was away on business. I woke up with a shooting pain in my back. After a 14-hour ER stay, the doctors couldn't say what had caused the excruciating pain. They DID say that the scans they had ordered had revealed a ping-pong ball sized mass on my left ovary. The following week my doctor read over the report and said, "Honey, that's no ping-pong ball. That's a peach." ...Plans are being made for my mother to come and stay. I do not know what the future holds. I do not have a real grasp on what this means for me or my family. Here's what I do know: My God had each and every day of my life mapped out long before I was born. He knows each thought that I think, and He promises to be with me no matter what. He has a purpose for what I am going through, and He only waits to see what I will do with my circumstances. Will I doubt and question His sovereignty, or will I trust His plan and rest in His arms?

Book excerpt: The triumphant true story of the native Hawaiian cowboys who crossed the Pacific to shock America at the 1908 world rodeo championships Oregon Book Award winner * An NPR Best Book of the Year * Pacific Northwest Book Award finalist * A Reading the West Book Awards finalist "Groundbreaking. … A must-read. ... An essential addition." —True West In August 1908, three unknown riders arrived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, their hats adorned with wildflowers, to compete in the world’s greatest rodeo. Steer-roping virtuoso Ikua Purdy and his cousins Jack Low and Archie Ka’au’a had travelled 4,200 miles from Hawaii, of all places, to test themselves against the toughest riders in the West. Dismissed by whites, who considered themselves the only true cowboys, the native Hawaiians would astonish the country, returning home champions—and American legends. An unforgettable human drama set against the rough-knuckled frontier, David Wolman and Julian Smith’s Aloha Rodeo unspools the fascinating and little-known true story of the Hawaiian cowboys, or paniolo, whose 1908 adventure upended the conventional history of the American West. What few understood when the three paniolo rode into Cheyenne is that the Hawaiians were no underdogs. They were the product of a deeply engrained cattle culture that was twice as old as that of the Great Plains, for Hawaiians had been chasing cattle over the islands’ rugged volcanic slopes and through thick tropical forests since the late 1700s. Tracing the life story of Purdy and his cousins, Wolman and Smith delve into the dual histories of ranching and cowboys in the islands, and the meteoric rise and sudden fall of Cheyenne, “Holy City of the Cow.” At the turn of the twentieth century, larger-than-life personalities like “Buffalo Bill” Cody and Theodore Roosevelt capitalized on a national obsession with the Wild West and helped transform Cheyenne’s annual Frontier Days celebration into an unparalleled rodeo spectacle, the “Daddy of ‘em All.” The hopes of all Hawaii rode on the three riders’ shoulders during those dusty days in August 1908. The U.S. had forcibly annexed the islands just a decade earlier. The young Hawaiians brought the pride of a people struggling to preserve their cultural identity and anxious about their future under the rule of overlords an ocean away. In Cheyenne, they didn’t just astound the locals; they also overturned simplistic thinking about cattle country, the binary narrative of “cowboys versus Indians,” and the very concept of the Wild West. Blending sport and history, while exploring questions of identity, imperialism, and race, Aloha Rodeo spotlights an overlooked and riveting chapter in the saga of the American West.

Book Three Brides for Three Cowboys Complete Collection

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fall in love all over again with top selling author Linda Ford’s heartwarming stories about three sisters who find love in the vast Canadian prairie. The Cowboy Tutor With the mortgage due and funds scarce, Madge Morgan can’t afford distractions. Especially not from Judd Kirk, her sister Louisa’s meek tutor and—according to their mother’s plans—suitor. Madge’s focus is on her housekeeping job…little knowing Judd’s connection to her employer, or his real reason for coming to Golden Prairie. At last, Judd has found the man who swindled his mother. Yet if he seeks revenge, he risks losing the one thing he wants even more. A woman with faith enough to rekindle his own. A woman with strong values and a gentle heart. A woman like Madge. The Cowboy Father With Alberta in the grip of the Depression, Louisa Morgan is desperate to bolster her family’s finances. But how can she tutor bedridden Ellie Hamilton? The little tomboy is more interested in making mischief than studying sums. And the girl’s bond with her handsome papa is another reminder to Louisa of the children she’ll never have. For Emmet Hamilton, strength means shouldering burdens alone. He never thought he’d let himself share his child, or his heart, ever again. But before long, Louisa’s kindness and optimism start to change the cowboy’s mind. Maybe he can gain the courage to trust again—in Louisa, in God’s grace, and in this new family…. The Cowboy Comes Home Security and a home of her own—that’s Sally Morgan’s dream. And a new job could offer both. Her employer will marry her if she proves her worth as housekeeper. A sensible—if unromantic—plan. Until a lean, laid-back cowboy moves in next door…and “sensible” moves right out! Linc McCoy and his family left town years ago under a cloud of suspicion. A cowboy with a tarnished name has nothing to offer a woman like Sally. Except for a spark of kinship neither can deny. And the growing hope that two guarded hearts might learn to trust in a power greater than them both.

Roberto Bolaño's boundless gift for shaping the chaos of reality into fiction is unmistakable across these three novellas. And in ‘Fatherland,’ a young poet reckons with the fascist overthrow of his country, as the woman he is obsessed with disappears in the ensuing violence.
