Book Three Bodies in London

Download or read book Three Bodies in London written by L. A. Nisula and published by Lisa Anne Nisula. This book was released on with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Join Cassie Pengear on her first three cases in London. The Affair of the Accused Cousin - Cassie arrives in England expecting to join her cousin Milly for a vacation spent having tea and visiting museums. Instead, she finds Milly is the only suspect in the murder of a shopkeeper. The Mystery of the Mechanical Bird - Cassie goes to send a letter home letting everyone know she's arrived safely, only to end up accused of murder herself. The Inconvenient Inspector - Cassie was planning on helping her new London friends move into their new flat, but when she arrives, she finds a policeman on the front step and a landlady accused of murder. In a Victorian England that almost existed, a steampunk London where tinkerers and clockwork devices exist alongside hansom cabs and corsets, murder is still solved by traditional observation and intuition. This is the London where American typist Cassandra Pengear finds herself stumbling over corpses and helping Scotland Yard detectives solve murders (although they inexplicably prefer to call it interfering). Follow her adventures in the Cassie Pengear Mystery series, beginning with The Killing at the Carnival.

Book Three Body Dynamics and Its Applications to Exoplanets

Download or read book Three Body Dynamics and Its Applications to Exoplanets written by Zdzislaw Musielak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-22 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief book provides an overview of the gravitational orbital evolution of few-body systems, in particular those consisting of three bodies. The authors present the historical context that begins with the origin of the problem as defined by Newton, which was followed up by Euler, Lagrange, Laplace, and many others. Additionally, they consider the modern works from the 20th and 21st centuries that describe the development of powerful analytical methods by Poincare and others. The development of numerical tools, including modern symplectic methods, are presented as they pertain to the identification of short-term chaos and long term integrations of the orbits of many astronomical architectures such as stellar triples, planets in binaries, and single stars that host multiple exoplanets. The book includes some of the latest discoveries from the Kepler and now K2 missions, as well as applications to exoplanets discovered via the radial velocity method. Specifically, the authors give a unique perspective in relation to the discovery of planets in binary star systems and the current search for extrasolar moons.

Book Chinese and Western Literary Influence in Liu Cixin s Three Body Trilogy

Download or read book Chinese and Western Literary Influence in Liu Cixin s Three Body Trilogy written by Will Peyton and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chinese and Western Literary Influence in Liu Cixin’s Three Body Trilogy examines Liu Cixin’s acclaimed trilogy, a Chinese science fiction epic whose translation is exceedingly popular in the Western world. Will Peyton argues that the ingenuity of Liu’s writing is found in its conscious engagement with translated Western fiction rather than, as one might expect, in Chinese language science fiction of the past. The book illustrates how contemporary Chinese fiction, since the economic opening of China in the late 1980s, is deeply and complexly influenced by various strains in Western literary and intellectual thought, an area that scholars of Chinese literature have tended to neglect. Providing a lucid and succinct close-reading and textual analysis of Three Body trilogy, the book also makes reference to broader ideas and themes in modern Chinese and Western intellectual history.

Book The Rise and Fall of London s Ringways 1943 1973

Download or read book The Rise and Fall of London s Ringways 1943 1973 written by Michael Dnes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban motorways are among the greatest – and least forgiven – legacies of post-war planning in Britain. Ringways explores the genesis, development and collapse of London’s controversial plans for nearly 500 miles of highways, to understand why such ambitious and unlamented programmes gained widespread support and triggered urban uproar. Combining a review of the wider intellectual climate with extensive archival research, Ringways asks how far the rise of the urban motorway can be attributed to urban contingency as opposed to far-seeing planners; how ideas of the environment changed as proposals were debated; and whether their fall was the work of popular revolt or expert regret.

Book excerpt: Based on the recent NATO Advanced Study Institute "Chaotic Worlds: From Order to Disorder in Gravitational N-Body Dynamical Systems", this state of the art textbook, written by internationally renowned experts, provides an invaluable reference volume for all students and researchers in gravitational n-body systems. The contributions are especially designed to give a systematic development from the fundamental mathematics which underpin modern studies of ordered and chaotic behaviour in n-body dynamics to their application to real motion in planetary systems. This volume presents an up-to-date synoptic view of the subject.

Book The Restricted Three Body Problem and Holomorphic Curves

Download or read book The Restricted Three Body Problem and Holomorphic Curves written by Urs Frauenfelder and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book serves as an introduction to holomorphic curves in symplectic manifolds, focusing on the case of four-dimensional symplectizations and symplectic cobordisms, and their applications to celestial mechanics. The authors study the restricted three-body problem using recent techniques coming from the theory of pseudo-holomorphic curves. The book starts with an introduction to relevant topics in symplectic topology and Hamiltonian dynamics before introducing some well-known systems from celestial mechanics, such as the Kepler problem and the restricted three-body problem. After an overview of different regularizations of these systems, the book continues with a discussion of periodic orbits and global surfaces of section for these and more general systems. The second half of the book is primarily dedicated to developing the theory of holomorphic curves - specifically the theory of fast finite energy planes - to elucidate the proofs of the existence results for global surfaces of section stated earlier. The book closes with a chapter summarizing the results of some numerical experiments related to finding periodic orbits and global surfaces of sections in the restricted three-body problem. This book is also part of the Virtual Series on Symplectic Geometry http://www.springer.com/series/16019

Book Poincare and the Three Body Problem

Download or read book Poincare and the Three Body Problem written by June Barrow-Green and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poincare's famous memoir on the three body problem arose from his entry in the competition celebrating the 60th birthday of King Oscar of Sweden and Norway. His essay won the prize and was set up in print as a paper in Acta Mathematica when it was found to contain a deep and critical error. In correcting this error Poincare discovered mathematical chaos, as is now clear from June Barrow-Green's pioneering study of a copy of the original memoir annotated by Poincare himself, recently discovered in the Institut Mittag-Leffler in Stockholm. Poincare and the Three Body Problem opens with a discussion of the development of the three body problem itself and Poincare's related earlier work. The book also contains intriguing insights into the contemporary European mathematical community revealed by the workings of the competition. After an account of the discovery of the error and a detailed comparative study of both the original memoir and its rewritten version, the book concludes with an account of the final memoir's reception, influence and impact, and an examination of Poincare's subsequent highly influential work in celestial mechanics.
