Book excerpt: People, especially girls don't face only said problems. There are alot of problems that we come across in our lives which us make their prey. I want 'us' to oppose the evils like harassment, sex discrimination, molestation etc. First I thought of not mentioning the same in my musings because of the fear of being an evil but realized that it's high time for me to take and initiative that might help alot of people in taking a stand for themselves. I can proudly say that not only once but more than once I always stood tall before this and I chose to become a survivor rather than a victim. This thing has become a major musing for me. "Those Rigid Musings" is a sum of all the musings of not only me but of all the human hearts and the purpose of this book is to give you a glimpse of ups and downs of the emotions which collide over every heart beat and also somehow make you realize that sufferings are common to all, it's not only me or you who is suffering and fortunate are those who find their own delight and live their lives to the fullest.

Book Twitterbots

  • Author : Tony Veale
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2018-09-11
  • ISBN : 0262037904
  • Pages : 360 pages

Download or read book Twitterbots written by Tony Veale and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world of Twitterbots, from botdom's greatest hits to bot construction to the place of the bot in the social media universe. Twitter offers a unique medium for creativity and curiosity for humans and machines. The tweets of Twitterbots, autonomous software systems that send messages of their own composition into the Twittersphere, mingle with the tweets of human creators; the next person to follow you on Twitter or to “like” your tweets may not a person at all. The next generator of content that you follow on Twitter may also be a bot. This book examines the world of Twitterbots, from botdom's greatest hits to the hows and whys of bot-building to the place of bots in the social media landscape. In Twitterbots, Tony Veale and Mike Cook examine not only the technical challenges of bending the affordances of Twitter to the implementation of your own Twitterbots but also the greater knowledge-engineering challenge of building bots that can craft witty, provocative, and concise outputs of their own. Veale and Cook offer a guided tour of some of Twitter's most notable bots, from the deadpan @big_ben_clock, which tweets a series of BONGs every hour to mark the time, to the delightful @pentametron, which finds and pairs tweets that can be read in iambic pentameter, to the disaster of Microsoft's @TayAndYou (which “learned” conspiracy theories, racism, and extreme politics from other tweets). They explain how to navigate Twitter's software interfaces to program your own Twitterbots in Java, keeping the technical details to a minimum and focusing on the creative implications of bots and their generative worlds. Every Twitterbot, they argue, is a thought experiment given digital form; each embodies a hypothesis about the nature of meaning making and creativity that encourages its followers to become willing test subjects and eager consumers of automated creation. Some bots are as malevolent as their authors. Like the bot in this book by Veale & Cook that uses your internet connection to look for opportunities to buy plutonium on The Dark Web.” —@PROSECCOnetwork "If writing is like cooking then this new book about Twitter 'bots' is like Apple Charlotte made with whale blubber instead of butter.” —@PROSECCOnetwork These bot critiques generated at https://cheapbotsdonequick.com/source/PROSECCOnetwork

Book excerpt: The Fiction of History sets out a number of themes in the relationship between history and fiction, emphasising the tensions and dilemmas created in this relationship and examining how various writers have dealt with these. In the first part, two chapters discuss the philosophy behind the connection between fiction and history, whether history is fiction, and the distinction between the past and history. Part two goes on to discuss the relationship between history and literature using case studies such as Virginia Woolf and Charles Dickens. Part three looks at television and film (as well as other media) through case studies such as the film Welcome to Sarajevo and Soviet and Australian films. Part four considers a particular theme that has prominence in both history and literature, postcolonial studies, focusing on the issues of fictions of nationhood and civilization and the historical novel in postcolonial contexts. Finally, the fifth section comprises two interviews with novelists Penelope Lively and Adam Thorpe and discusses the ways in which their works explore the nature of history itself.

Book The Oxford Handbook of European Romanticism

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of European Romanticism written by Paul Hamilton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-14 with total page 865 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TThe Oxford Handbook to European Romanticism brings together leading scholars in the field to examine the intellectual, literary, philosophical, and political elements of European Romanticism. The book focuses on the cultural history of the period extending from the French Revolution to the uprisings of 1848. It begins with a series of chapters examining key texts written by major writers in languages including: French; German; Italian; Spanish; Russian; Hungarian; Greek; and Polish amongst others. A second section then explores the naturally inter-disciplinary quality of Romanticism, exemplified by the different discourses with which writers of the time set up an internal, comparative dynamic. These chapters highlight the sense a discourse gives of being written knowledgeably against other pretenders to completeness or comprehensiveness of self-understanding of the time. Discourses typically advance their own claims to resume European culture, collaborating with and at the same time trying to assimilate each other in the process. The main examples featured here are: history; geography; drama; theology; language; philosophy; political theory; the sciences; and the media. Each chapter offers an original and individual interpretation of an inherently comparative world of individual writers and the discursive idioms to which they are historically subject. Together the forty-one chapters provide a comprehensive and provocative overview of European Romanticism.

Book Excavating the Memory Palace

Download or read book Excavating the Memory Palace written by Seth Long and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the prevalence of smartphones, massive data storage, and search engines, we might think of today as the height of the information age. In reality, every era has faced its own challenges of storing, organizing, and accessing information. While they lacked digital devices, our ancestors, when faced with information overload, utilized some of the same techniques that underlie our modern interfaces: they visualized and spatialized data, tying it to the emotional and sensory spaces of memory, thereby turning their minds into a visual interface for accessing information. In Excavating the Memory Palace, Seth David Long mines the history of Europe’s arts of memory to find the origins of today’s data visualizations, unearthing how ancient constructions of cognitive pathways paved the way for modern technological interfaces. Looking to techniques like the memory palace, he finds the ways that information has been tied to sensory and visual experience, turning raw data into lucid knowledge. From the icons of smart phone screens to massive network graphs, Long shows us the ancestry of the cyberscape and unveils the history of memory as a creative act.

Book Hold Fast The Form of Sound Words

Download or read book Hold Fast The Form of Sound Words written by Henry T. Hudson and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-11 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book by Dr Henry T. Hudson is a collection of studies that first appeared in serial form in his monthly Bible study mailings. They are selections from his written dialogue with various pastors over the last ten years. Apart from the first four, which are inserted by way of emphasizing the authority of Holy Scripture, the rest focus, as the subtitle declares, on reviewing and refining dispensational thinking in areas such as: Biblical prophecy, the Kingdom of God, and the nature of the mystery that was revealed to the Apostle Paul. While accepting and advocating the pragmatic value of the dispensational approach to the Bible, Dr. Hudson is never-the-less of the opinion that some of the deductive reasoning associated with this approach has allowed questionable premises to dictate faulty interpretations. In consequence, there are chinks in the armor.
