Book excerpt: Thorny Roses a collection of poetry, prose, and quote by Dyana Sprayberry. "Like winter, some types of love can start out beautiful but quickly turn deadly if you're not too careful." - Dyana Sprayberry, Thorny Roses Enchanting and pensive.Thorny Roses explores the all-to-often unspoken emotions many of us carry inside after having our heart broken one to many times. It is a journey of love, loss, self-discovery, healing, and starting over. "Creating Thorny Roses was a fun, but eye-opening experience for me. As a college student studying psychology, I was introduced to the therapeutic use of expressional arts, such as art therapy and poetry therapy. I've always been drawn to creative hobbies, but I really took an interest in the use of poetry as a way to release all the heavy emotions that lingered with me from old traumas at a time when I couldn't afford a therapist. Writing turned out to be quite cathartic for me. After a few years, I finally worked up the courage to start sharing some of what I wrote with others through social media. It was at that point I decided that perhaps by sharing work, I could provide others with the same opportunity to feel understood and connected, just as I had by reading what other authors had wrote." - Dyana Sprayberry About the Author Dyana is currently working towards finishing her bachelor's degree in psychology. She lives in the U.S. with her husband and their two dogs. Thorny Roses is her first book. Her work can be found on Instagram: @thorny.roses.poetry

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sarah J. Maas's sexy, richly imagined series continues with the journey of Feyre's fiery sister, Nesta. Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can't seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it. The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre's Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta's orbit. But her temper isn't the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other. Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts. Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other's arms.

Betrayal, loss, love, redemption, and justice collide in this masterpiece of a novel. You won’t want to miss The Book of Thorns." —Paulette Kennedy, author of The Devil and Mrs. Davenport Hester Fox delivers an enchanting tale of secrets, betrayal, and magic! Penniless and stranded in France after a bid to escape her cruel uncle goes awry, Cornelia Shaw is far from the Parisian life of leisure she imagined. Desperate and lacking options, she allows herself to be recruited to Napoleon’s Grande Armée. As a naturalist, her near-magical ability to heal any wound with herbal mixtures invites awe amongst the soldiers…and suspicion. For behind Cornelia’s vast knowledge of the natural world is a secret she keeps hidden—the flowers speak to her through a mysterious connection she has felt since childhood. One that her mother taught her to heed, before she disappeared. Then, as Napoleon’s army descends on Waterloo, the flowers sing to her of a startling revelation: a girl who bears a striking resemblance to Cornelia. A girl she almost remembers—her sister, lost long ago, who seems to share the same gifts. Determined to reunite with Lijsbeth despite being on opposite sides of the war, Cornelia is drawn into a whirlwind of betrayal, secrets, and lies. Brought together by fate and magic at the peak of the war, the sisters try to uncover the key to the source of the power that connects them as accusations of witchcraft swirl and threaten to destroy the very lives they’ve fought for. Though the separation has come, there exist a spiritual connection which continues to bind the couple. They are very much aware of the hurt and pride keeping them from reaching out to each other. Instead of forming a mutual bridge of communication, they begin to search within themselves looking for understanding and insight. They search for what has brought them to this place. They try to make sense of the devastation left behind; to understand the indifference of their families and close friends, to judge whether their shaken foundation is beyond repair. Finally, to grasp some insight that allows them to know that they will come through their experience. Knowing within themselves that forgiveness and reconciliation are possibilities the couple must endure the winter season of their relationship. At its end, they will either continue as a couple or part as individuals who have grown from this ordeal. In God’s silence towards them, He still draws them closer to Him. He brings them closer to “The Living Water” that can only quench the thirst of those who have dwelled in this spiritual wilderness. For in this wilderness, water is available to any who choose to dig deep enough! “The Parched Garden” is the internal spiritual struggle to keep digging for “The Healing Living Water”, so that we learn to nourish the spiritual gardens inside ourselves. We must learn to love ourselves as much as our heavenly Father loves us. Thereby allowing us to extend that love and forgiveness unconditionally to others! Lark

Book The Care and Handling of Roses with Thorns

Download or read book The Care and Handling of Roses with Thorns written by Margaret Dilloway and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-07-02 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the ALA Reading List Award Difficult and obstinate. Thriving under a set of specific and limited conditions. That pretty much describes me. Maybe that’s why I like these roses so much. Roses are Galilee Garner’s passion. An amateur breeder, she painstakingly cross-pollinates her plants to coax out new, better traits, striving to create a perfect strain of her favorite flower, the Hulthemia. Her dream is to win a major rose competition and one day have her version of the bloom sold in the commercial market. Gal carefully calibrates the rest of her time to manage the kidney failure she’s had since childhood, going to dialysis every other night, and teaching high school biology, where she is known for her exacting standards. The routine leaves little room for relationships, and Gal prefers it that way. Her roses never disappoint her the way people have. Then one afternoon, Riley, the teenaged daughter of Gal’s estranged sister, arrives unannounced to live with her, turning Gal’s orderly existence upside down. Suddenly forced to adjust to each other’s worlds, both will discover a resilience they never knew they had and a bond they never knew they needed.
