Download or read book The Schreiber Theory written by David Kipen and published by Melville House Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Kipen's new heresy topples the old orthodoxy by studying the careers of screenwriters past and present in a witty, two-pronged attack: in part one, he dismantles the auteur theory and presents a convincing argument that screenwriters are the guiding creative geniuses behind the best films. In part two, he offers a compendium of mini-biographies of great screenwriters past and present. Who wrote Casablanca? Who wrote Twelve Monkeys? Who wrote Dead Girls Don't Tango? What else did they write?" "It all makes The Schreiber Theory an engaging read and a one-of-a-kind reference for movie lovers and film students alike."--Jacket.

Download or read book Melothesia in Babylonia written by Markham Judah Geller and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-11-10 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph begins with a puzzle: a Babylonian text from late 5th century BCE Uruk associating various diseases with bodily organs, which has evaded interpretation. The correct answer may reside in Babylonian astrology, since the development of the zodiac in the late 5th century BCE offered innovative approaches to the healing arts. The zodiac—a means of predicting the movements of heavenly bodies—transformed older divination (such as hemerologies listing lucky and unlucky days) and introduced more favorable magical techniques and medical prescriptions, which are comparable to those found in Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos and non-Hippocratic Greek medicine. Babylonian melothesia (i.e., the science of charting how zodiacal signs affect the human body) offers the most likely solution explaining the Uruk tablet.

He is known for his cosmological theories, which conceptually extended to include the then-novel Copernican model. He also insisted that the universe is infinite and could have no center.
