Within these pages you will find prayer exercises offering instruction in a variety of prayer methods and approaches, including praying in silence, praying out loud, journaling your prayers, and drawing/coloring as you pray. Designed to be used as a devotional companion to Melissa's Elijah Bible study or a separate prayer guide, these prayers will strengthen your faith and increase your spiritual stamina as you draw near to God. The Elijah Bible study components, available separately, include a Participant Workbook, Leader Guide, DVD with six 20-25 minute sessions, and boxed Leader Kit (an all-inclusive box containing one copy of each of the Bible study’s components).

Book excerpt: DigiCat presents to you this meticulously edited collection of Xenophon's historical works, formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Content: Anabasis Cyropaedia Hellenica Agesilaus Polity of the Lacedaemonians Polity of the Athenians Anabasis is Xenophon's most famous book. The seven-tome book of the Anabasis describes The March of the Ten Thousand and their return to Greece. Xenophon accompanied the Ten Thousand, a large army of Greek mercenaries hired by Cyrus the Younger, who intended to seize the throne of Persia from his brother, Artaxerxes II. The narration of the journey is Xenophon's best known work, and "one of the great adventures in human history". Hellenica is one of the most important primary sources for the History of the Peloponnesian War and the war's aftermath. Many consider this a very personal work, written by Xenophon in retirement on his Spartan estate, intended primarily for circulation among his friends, for people who knew the main protagonists and events, often because they had participated in them. It covers the events in Greece from 411 to 362 BC, and is considered to be the continuation of the History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides. Cyropaedia is a biography of Cyrus the Great, the founder of Achaemenid Empire and the first Persian Empire. It is "a political romance, describing the education of the ideal ruler, trained to rule as a benevolent despot over his admiring and willing subjects." Aspects of it would become a model for medieval writers of the genre known as mirrors for princes. In turn it was a strong influence upon the most well-known but atypical of these, Machiavelli's The Prince.

Book Colossians An Introduction and Study Guide

Download or read book Colossians An Introduction and Study Guide written by Janice Capel Anderson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-27 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide introduces readers to key issues in the interpretation and reception of Colossians. Anderson first explores the issue of Pauline authorship. She challenges readers to reflect on why the question of authorship has dominated scholarship as well as why and how interpreters create “stories” about the letter. Second, Anderson examines rhetoric and context. She asks readers to consider how the letter constructs and seeks to persuade its addressees past and present. She surveys several pictures of the first audience and “opponents.” Finally, Anderson delves into the functions of the Colossian household code, its reception, and the ethics of interpretation.

Book The Great Historians of the Ancient World illustrated In 3 vol Vol I

Download or read book The Great Historians of the Ancient World illustrated In 3 vol Vol I written by Thucydides and published by Strelbytskyy Multimedia Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of what is known of the ancient world comes from the accounts of antiquity's own historians. Ancient history is the aggregate of past events from the beginning of writing and recorded human history and extending as far as post-classical history. Historians have two major ways of understanding the ancient world: archaeology and the study of source texts. Primary sources are those sources closest to the origin of the information or idea under study. Some of the more notable ancient writers include Herodotus, Thucydides, Arrian, Plutarch, Polybius, Livy, Josephus, Suetonius, and Tacitus. This three-volume edition presents exactly such primary sources of classical antiquity historians. This volume contents: 1. Thucydides: The History of the Peloponnesian War 2. Herodotus: The Histories by Herodotus 3. Xenophon: Anabasis 4. Xenophon: The Polity of the Athenians and the Lacedaemonians 5. Polybius: The Histories of Polybius, in 2 vol. 6. Plutarch: Lives of the noble Grecians and Romans by Plutarch Lives: A.H. Clough 7. Strabo: The Geography of Strabo, in 3 vol.
