This book was released on 1995-02-28 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lectures delivered at the Second Paris Cosmology Colloquium (second ‘Journée Cosmologie’) held at the Observatoire de Paris from June 2 to 4, 1994.[The first ‘Journée Cosmologie’ was held from May 18 to 19, 1993.]The purpose of these meetings is to cover selected topics of high current interest in the interplay between cosmology and fundamental physics and to allow easy and fruitful mutual contacts and communication. The main aim is to put in contact fundamental theoretical physics (including string theory) with real physical problems that arise in the study of the universe. The Paris Cosmology Colloguia are informal meetings which bring together physicists, astrophysicists and astronomers.Topics covered in the Second Paris Cosmology Colloquium included: fundamental strings and cosmic strings in cosmology, evolution out of the equilibrium of quantum fields in primordial cosmology, dark matter, as well as other subjects of high current interest related to black holes and quantum gravity.Sessions in the 1994 meeting lasted for three days leaving time for private discussions and for enjoying the beautiful parisian campus of the Observatoire de Paris (built on orders from Colbert and to plans by Claude Perrault from 1667 to 1672). Sessions took place at the ‘Salle du Conseil’ in the historic Perrault building under the portraits of Laplace, Le Verrier, Lalande, Arago, Delambre and Louis XIV.

Book The Third Algerian Workshop on Astronomy and Astrophysics

Download or read book The Third Algerian Workshop on Astronomy and Astrophysics written by N. Mebarki and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2010-12-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop aims at strengthening international astrophysicist, astronomers and cosmologists community by being a meeting for exchange and keeping updated on the latest advances in the various subjects. The presented talks bridged the gap between the different fields making it possible for non-experts in a given subject to gain insight into new areas. The main topics were high energy, cosmic rays, extra galactic astrophysics, the space connection, cosmology, solar, stellar and interstellar physics, observation techniques and observatories. The plenary lectures which were very accessible to a general audience had covered the topics of basic cosmic knowledge, high energy astrophysics in general, seismology of the sun and stars, science with robotic observatories, extrasolar planets, disk galaxy evolution, techniques associated with robotic observatories and the role of astronomy in space technology development.

Download or read book Cosmic Explosions written by J.M. Marcaide and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-11-17 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supernovae are among the most energetic phenomena in the Universe and - lated to almost all aspects of modern astrophysics including starburst gal- ies, cosmic ray acceleration, neutron star and black hole formation, nuc- osynthesis and ISM chemical enrichment, energy input to the ISM, cosmic distance scale determination, dark energy related cosmological acceleration, gamma-ray bursts, extra-solar system neutrino burst detection, gravity wave generation, and many more. Additionally, the past 15 years have been p- ticularly productive with many new results and new understanding due in particular to the closest SN in 400 years in SN 1987A in the Large M- ellanic Cloud, and the unusually bright and close SN 1993J and SN 1994I in the nearby galaxies M81 and M51, respectively. In addition, the disc- ery of the ?-ray burst GRB 980425 and its related supernova SN 1998bw, and the con?rmation of GRB 030329/SN 2003dh, tied the study of SNe and GRBs inextricably together. With the many developments since the last - jor supernova meeting in La Serena, Chile in 1997, we felt that it was an appropriate time to bring together experts and students interested in the subject for a meeting where SN and GRB properties and interrelationships could be discussed. The tenth anniversary of SN 1993J provided such an - portunity and, appropriately, the meeting was held in Spain where SN 1993J was discovered on the early morning of 28 March 1993 by a Spanish amateur astronomer, Francisco Garc ́ ?a.

Book High Resolution X ray Spectroscopy of Cosmic Plasmas

Download or read book High Resolution X ray Spectroscopy of Cosmic Plasmas written by International Astronomical Union. Colloquium and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-04-26 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an account of the proceedings of the International Astronomical Union Colloquium 115: High Resolution X-Ray Spectroscopy of Cosmic Plasmas. This was the first IAU meeting dedicated to high resolution X-ray spectroscopy of objects outside the solar system. A broad range of objects and astrophysical conditions are discussed. Results from the first generation of satellites with spectroscopic capability, i.e. the Einstein Observatory, EXOSAT, and Tenma, are reviewed from a perspective of a more precise interpretation allowed by improved theoretical models and plasma diagnostics. Laboratory and solar X-ray results that model or are relevant to conditions found in cosmic X-ray sources are also presented. The colloquium presents a forum for discussion of scientific objectives of new international missions in high resolution X-ray spectroscopy.
