Book Theory of Elastic Thin Shells

Download or read book Theory of Elastic Thin Shells written by A. L. Gol'Denveizer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Elastic Thin Shells discusses the mathematical foundations of shell theory and the approximate methods of solution. The present volume was originally published in Russian in 1953, and remains the only text which formulates as completely as possible the different sets of basic equations and various approximate methods of shell analysis emphasizing asymptotic integration. The book is organized into five parts. Part I presents the general formulation and equations of the theory of shells, which are based on the well-known hypothesis of the preservation of the normal element. Part II is devoted to the membrane theory--the most widely used approximate method of analysis of shells that was formulated at approximately the same time as the more general bending theory. In Part III methods of analysis of circular cylindrical shells with the aid of trigonometric series are considered. Part IV is essentially mathematical in character and its purpose is to justify the approximate methods of shell analysis. In Part V approximate methods of analysis of shells are formulated.

Book Linear Elastic Theory of Thin Shells

Download or read book Linear Elastic Theory of Thin Shells written by J. E. Gibson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear Elastic Theory of Thin Shells presents membrane and bending theories for open and closed cylindrical shells and shells of arbitrary shape. This book aims to develop the analysis through membrane theory to bending theory for shells and to limit the type of mathematics used. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the solid material enclosed between two closely spaced doubly curved surfaces. This text then examines the five stress resultants for closed cylindrical shell. Other chapters consider the theoretical stresses that are closely related to the actual stresses determined experimentally in practice. This book discusses as well the numerical analysis of more complicated shell structures. The final chapter deals with the correlation between experimental and theoretical stresses in shells. This book is intended to be suitable for final year engineering and post-graduate students. Design and consulting engineers will also find this book extremely useful.

Book Thin Shells

Download or read book Thin Shells written by J. E. Gibson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin Shells: Computing and Theory introduces the basic concepts of elastic analysis of shells and the computer programming methods of such analyses. The book utilizes FORTRAN in presenting the programs for stress analysis in shells. The text first covers membrane and bending theories for cylindrical and spherical shells and the membrane theory for shells of arbitrary shape. Next, the book tackles the analysis of more complicated shell structures such as multi-shells. The next chapter deals with a finite element method. The 10th chapter details the correlation between theoretical stresses and actual experimental stresses, and the last chapter covers corrugated shells. The text will be of great use to students and practitioners of civil engineering.

Book Thin Plates and Shells

Book excerpt: Presenting recent principles of thin plate and shell theories, this book emphasizes novel analytical and numerical methods for solving linear and nonlinear plate and shell dilemmas, new theories for the design and analysis of thin plate-shell structures, and real-world numerical solutions, mechanics, and plate and shell models for engineering applications. It includes computer processes for finite difference, finite element, boundary element, and boundary collocation methods as well as other variational and numerical methods. It also contains end-of-chapter examples and problem/solution sets, a catalog of solutions for cylindrical and spherical shells, and tables of the most commonly used plates and shells.

Book Singular Null Hypersurfaces In General Relativity Light like Signals From Violent Astrophysical Events

Download or read book Singular Null Hypersurfaces In General Relativity Light like Signals From Violent Astrophysical Events written by Peter A Hogan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-02-03 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive and self-contained exposition of the mathematical theory of impulsive light-like signals in general relativity. Applications are provided in relativistic astrophysics, cosmology and alternative theories of gravity deduced from string theory. Cataclysmic astrophysical events give rise to impulsive light-like signals which can generally be decomposed into a thin shell of null matter and an impulsive gravitational wave. Several examples are considered in black hole physics, wave collisions and light-like boosts of compact gravitating sources.Graduate students and researchers in relativistic astrophysics, cosmology and string theory will find this book very useful.

Book The Art of Gluing Space Time Manifolds

Download or read book The Art of Gluing Space Time Manifolds written by Samad Khakshournia and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-25 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise book reviews methods used for gluing space-time manifolds together. It is therefore relevant to theorists working on branes, walls, domain walls, concepts frequently used in theoretical cosmology, astrophysics, and gravity theory. Nowadays, applications are also in theoretical condensed matter physics where Riemannian geometry appears. The book also reviews the history of matching conditions between two space-time manifolds from the early times of general relativity up to now.

Book Small Elastic Deformations of Thin Shells

Download or read book Small Elastic Deformations of Thin Shells written by P. Seide and published by Springer. This book was released on 1975-05-31 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade or so the theory of shells has undergone a tremendous increase in development. Formerly a subject of interest only to a few special ists and for which the literature was relatively smalI, the needs of structures for aerospace missions instigated a torrent of papers on all facets of the theory which also found application in the less glamorous earthbound shell struc tures important in everyday life. Some idea of the rapidity of the development can be gained from the fact that a bibliography* completed in 1953 listed some 1455 books and papers as the sum total ofthe literature on shell theory to that date. Three years later, however, a supplementt added another 884 papers to the list, an increase of 60 per cent in that short period of time. The number of papers published since these listings has increased to an extent that does not bear contemplation. Obviously no single volume could contain all that constitutes the theory of shells and so this book is restricted to that portion of the theory associated with small deformations of elastic shells. Plastic deformations of shells, which is hardly developed, and nonlinear deformations and stability, which would require at least aseparate volume, are thus excluded. Even with this restriction, however, the present volume represents a long overdue compro mise between completeness and finiteness. In making this compromise I have undoubtedly omitted discussions of many topics and references to many excellent papers which should have been included.

Book General Relativity and Gravitation

Download or read book General Relativity and Gravitation written by B. Bertotti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tenth International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation (GR10) was held from July 3 to July 8, 1983, in Padova, Italy. These Conferences take place every three years, under the auspices of the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation, with the purpose of assessing the current research in the field, critically discussing the prog ress made and disclosing the points of paramount im portance which deserve further investigations. The Conference was attended by about 750 scientists active in the various subfields in which the current research on gravitation and general relativity is ar ticulated, and more than 450 communications were sub mitted. In order to fully exploit this great occur rence of experience and creative capacity, and to pro mote individual contributions to the collective know ledge, the Conference was given a structure of work shops on the most active topics and of general sessions in which the Conference was addressed by invited speakers on general reviews or recent major advance ments of the field. The individual communications were collected in a two-volume publication made available to the participants upon their arrival and widely distributed to Scientific Institutions and Research Centres.
