"Oh!" she shrieked. "Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!" As Bob stood up and reached into his pocket for the ring, Mary jumped into his arms nearly knocking him over. Applause filled the restaurant. Suddenly, three masked men burst through the front door of the restaurant, and three gunshots rang out. Dust fell from where the bullets had penetrated the ceiling. "I can't give him my new engagement ring," Mary whispered tearfully. Mary's life changed in an instant. Her happy, church-oriented life was destroyed. "I don't want to go on living," Mary said when she awakened the next morning. "The joy has gone out of my life. How could God let this happen? God has let me down, and I'm through with Him." Mary's mother had been keeping a shocking secret for twenty-eight years. Was now the time to tell Mary about it? Mary's happiness and even her life might depend on it. Seemingly unrelated events and people are drawn together as God's plan is slowly and painstakingly worked out.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Never again should a child die because of being left alone in a hot car. The inspiration for the invention and writing of Remember Baby came because both parents forgot. The setting is Las Vegas, Nevada on June 29, 2001, the hottest recorded day so far that year. After reading the tragic account in the local paper, the author was besieged with sorrow, anger, tears, and overwhelming personal grief. While discussing the senseless tragedy with her husband and saying repeatedly, "This has got to stop. Somebody has to do something," a voice from within spoke softly but firmly, saying, "You do it." Thinking it was her spouse, she turned toward him, only to discover he was not speaking. Again and again the prompting came, until the author realized it was a divine call. How could a pastor without formal education in engineering or automotive accomplish such a feat? In answer to her prayers for help, many came to her aid, including the director of automotive for Southern Nevada Community College, who agreed to build her prototype for a safety alarm system that alerts drivers to remove kids from their vehicle before departing. The book raises the consciousness of hyperthermia deaths of children left in hot cars and promotes preventive safety measures. Pastor Sandy Blake Toles is pastor and founder of Love Center Unlimited, a Christian outreach ministry in Las Vegas, whose mission is to empower, educate, coach, mentor, and serve the underserved population. "I was inspired to invent this device and motivated to write this book after reading about the preventable premature death of a six-month-old baby boy forgotten by his parents in a hot car." Book A Pilgrimage of Faith

Download or read book A Pilgrimage of Faith written by Henlee H. Barnette and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henlee Barnette's life has spanned most of the twentieth century. His life in the rural South eventually led to his becoming a Christian. He graduated from Wake Forest College in 1940, and then attended seminary, taking the Ph.D. in 1948. For the next 50 years he taught Christian ethics, but not just in the classroom. In this remarkable memoir, he stresses Christianity as a pilgrimage, a way of life undergirded by faith in God. Such faith is active in love and calls for justice in personal and social relations. One's journey in the world needs a spiritual compass: the Christian's personal responsibility to do faith active in love, that is, agape love. Such love includes justice. Love without justice is subjective and sentimental. Love that Jesus taught provides concreteness and structure. Agape love makes justice just. Christian faith that is purely personal is suspect. In his own pilgrimage he became aware of the demonic forces that dehumanize us. Among these was the denial of basic human rights to minority groups. Love and justice motivated him to join the Civil Rights Movement as a means of achieving more just interpersonal relations. His relationships with blacks and whites during the Civil Rights Movement fill the pages of this wonderful narrative. But Barnette also fought against unjust wars, ecological abuse, poverty, violence, and a multitude of other issues which confront and challenge both Christian and church.

  • ISBN : 1644920557
  • Pages : 152 pages

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within minutes of giving birth, Sue Latour was told by her pediatrician her baby girl could not possibly survive the night. The diagnosis was confirmed as certain by a room full of medical experts brought in to assist. Gripped with fear and with seemingly no other options, she turned to God for help. Thus, begins the miraculous story of Sue Lyons-Latour and her miracle princess, Sandy Michelle Latour. Sandy's Heart will enlighten and inspire like no other. You'll laugh and cry, but most of all you'll understand that in the twenty-first century miracles still happen. Sandy's survival was only the first of many miracles to follow. What little did the hospital professionals who insisted that they give her up or the family know of what was to come. They were unaware of God's anointing on their fragile yet miraculous child. The family and all that knew them were to embark on the ride of their lives, filled with testing, trials, and with God's great mercy, grace, forgiveness, love, and favor. It all began on October 3, 1984, with Sandy's first miracle. Sandy's life reached multitudes of souls for the kingdom of God. She walked with God and prophesized the truth into people's lives. Miracles followed her wherever she went. She had a great character and stated God has a character as well. She knew things about heaven and God that were impossible for a handicapped child with a limited mentality. Her description of Jesus was perfectly described as seen in the Bible's revelation of Christ. Sandy's Heart encounters the lives of her family and those around her. It depicts the devastating hard times as well as the blessings and favor of God as He carried them through them all. It allows the reader to find hope and trust in God's will and to find joy in even the hardest of the hard times.

These questions, among others, often enter the hearts and minds of people envisioning their final heavenly home. Often, theologians and pastors have placed unnecessary restrictions on heaven, whereas others have claimed that heaven should not be discussed because of so many uncertainties. But is this helpful? Furthermore, is it even biblical? In the book Conversations about Heaven, Dr. Brian Chilton reflects on a conversation he had with a lady from Huntsville Baptist Church who asked some of the most challenging questions he ever received. They both discovered that if God is the greatest possible being and heaven is God’s greatest gift, then heaven is a place that is far greater than anything ever imagined. Conversations about Heaven challenges you to vastly expand your thoughts on heaven, as heaven will far exceed even our greatest imaginations, and it encourages you to regularly reflect on the great things that lie ahead in your heavenly home.
