Book Plane Thermoelastic Deformation of Internally Heated Annular Disks Or Hollow Cylinders

Download or read book Plane Thermoelastic Deformation of Internally Heated Annular Disks Or Hollow Cylinders written by Franklyn B. Fuller and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A plane elastic problem of bodies bounded by concentric circles and heated at the inner boundary is solved in the "uncoupled, quasi-static" approximation. The heating takes place by surface heat transfer, with limiting cases corresponding to sudden temperature change and to constant flux of heat. The stress boundary conditions treated are those of constant flux of heat. The stress boundary conditions treated are those of constant pressure at the inner wall while the outer wall may be either free or rigidly restrained. The time-dependent results for stresses, displacement, and temperature are calculated and shown for several cases with varying values for the parameters specifying heat transfer and wall thickness. The effect of varying Poisson's ratio is also examined. Formulas for steady-state distributions of the quantities of interest are also given, as well as some approximate results that can be used for very small times.

Book A Biharmonic Relaxation Method for Calculating Thermal Stress in Cooled Irregular Cylinders

Download or read book A Biharmonic Relaxation Method for Calculating Thermal Stress in Cooled Irregular Cylinders written by Arthur G. Holms and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical method was developed for calculating thermal stresses in irregular cylinders cooled by one or more internal passages. The use of relaxation methods and elementary methods of finite differences was found to give approximations to the correct values when compared with previously known solutions for concentric circular cylinders possessing symmetrical and asymmetrical temperature distributions.

Book Transient Thermal Stress Problem for a Circumferentially Cracked Hollow Cylinder

Download or read book Transient Thermal Stress Problem for a Circumferentially Cracked Hollow Cylinder written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-21 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transient thermal stress problem for a hollow elasticity cylinder containing an internal circumferential edge crack is considered. It is assumed that the problem is axisymmetric with regard to the crack geometry and the loading, and that the inertia effects are negligible. The problem is solved for a cylinder which is suddenly cooled from inside. First the transient temperature and stress distributions in an uncracked cylinder are calculated. By using the equal and opposite of this thermal stress as the crack surface traction in the isothermal cylinder the crack problem is then solved and the stress intensity factor is calculated. The numerical results are obtained as a function of the Fourier number tD/b(2) representing the time for various inner-to-outer radius ratios and relative crack depths, where D and b are respectively the coefficient of diffusivity and the outer radius of the cylinder.
