Download or read book Thermal Expansion of SNAP Materials written by J. D. Watrous and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal expansion characteristics were determined for the fuel-moderator, reflector, cladding, and engineering materials within the SNAP-2 core vessel. Values were determined for AISI Type 347 stainless steel, Hastelloy N, beryllium, zirconium, zirconium hydride, and zirconium-uranium hydrides, from room temperature to temperatures greater than 1300°F. Derived equations were calculated for these materials, using a least squares analysis.

Book excerpt: Thermal expansion characteristics were determined for fuel-moderator, reflector, cladding, and engineering erials within the SNAP-2 core vessel. Values were denined for AISI Type 347 stainless steel, Hastelloy N, Zr, ZrH, and zirconium --uranium hydrides, from room temperature to temperatures greater than 1300 deg F. Derived equations were calculated for these materials, using a least squares analysis. Thermal expansion coefficients for the temperature range of 77 to 1200 deg F are: 10.34 x 106 in./ in./ deg F, for Type 347 stainless steel; 7.46 x 10−6 in./in./ deg F, for Hastelloy N; 9.07 x 10/sup ->/ in./ in./ deg F, for Be; and 6.12 x 10−6 in-/in./ deg F, for Zr--7 wt% UH with an N = 6.4. Book Injection Moulding Materials

Download or read book Injection Moulding Materials written by A. Whelan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to make the subject manageable the term 'injection moulding' has been restricted in its use so that only those processes which rely on thermal softening of the polymeric materials have been described and discussed in this book. It is intended to discuss the subject of reaction injection moulding in a separate book. However, even with this omission, the subject is still a very large one as nowadays many sorts or types of polymers are injection moulded. For example, it is estimated that one-third of all plastics materials are injection moulded-the range of products produced is enormous and increases daily. Because most moulding materials are based on plastics, in particular thermoplastics, the materials guides which form a large part of this book concentrate on the moulding of thermoplastics materials. Such guides should only be treated as general guidelines as each of the materials is normally available in a wide range of grades. These may differ in polymer molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, the additives used and their concentration, the physical form of the moulding compound, etc. A wide range of processing behaviours and end-use properties is therefore possible from any of the materials listed. This versatility is typified by the rubbery polymers which are compounded into an incredibly wide range of compounds. Because of this versatility only a very general guideline has been given for such materials.

Book DeGarmo s Materials and Processes in Manufacturing

Download or read book DeGarmo s Materials and Processes in Manufacturing written by J. T. Black and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-07-21 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guiding engineering and technology students for over five decades, DeGarmo's Materials and Processes in Manufacturing provides a comprehensive introduction to manufacturing materials, systems, and processes. Coverage of materials focuses on properties and behavior, favoring a practical approach over complex mathematics; analytical equations and mathematical models are only presented when they strengthen comprehension and provide clarity. Material production processes are examined in the context of practical application to promote efficient understanding of basic principles, and broad coverage of manufacturing processes illustrates the mechanisms of each while exploring their respective advantages and limitations. Aiming for both accessibility and completeness, this text offers introductory students a comprehensive guide to material behavior and selection, measurement and inspection, machining, fabrication, molding, fastening, and other important processes using plastics, ceramics, composites, and ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys. This extensive overview of the field gives students a solid foundation for advanced study in any area of engineering, manufacturing, and technology.
