Book Effect of Plastic Deformation on Subsequent Decomposition in Aluminum Alloys Al Si and Al Mg Si

Download or read book Effect of Plastic Deformation on Subsequent Decomposition in Aluminum Alloys Al Si and Al Mg Si written by Nikolaĭ Nikolaevich Buĭnov and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of plastic deformation on subsequent decomposition in the alloys Al-Si (1.2 percent Si) and Al-Mg-Si (1.4 percent Mg2Si) was studied with an electron microscope. These alloys were chosen because the first is easily quenched and does not age at room temperature and because in the second no decomposition after quenching and natural aging is detected with the electron microscope (although the properties change). These alloys were chosen also because they could be studied by the oxide-film method. This method was used to study the surface of the samples, which was etched before deformation and aging. It is then possible to observe simultaneously, on the electron photographs, precipitation, the block structure, and those alterations (slip lines, bending of blocks, cracks, etc.) in the submicroscopic structure of the alloys which are caused by deformation.

  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Creep of Crystals written by Jean-Paul Poirier and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1985-02-28 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook describes the physics of the plastic deformation of solids at high temperatures. It is directed at geologists or geophysicists interested in the high-temperature behaviour of crystals who wish to become acquainted with the methods of materials science in so far as they are useful to earth scientists. It explains the most important models and recent experimental results without losing the reader in the primary literature of materials science. In turn the book deals with the essential solid-state physics; thermodynamics and hydrostatics of creep; creep models and their applications in the geological sciences; diffusion creep; superplastic deformation and deformation enhanced by phase transformations. Five concluding chapters give experimental results for metals, ceramics and minerals. There are extensive bibliographies to aid further study.

Book Dislocations and Plastic Deformation

Download or read book Dislocations and Plastic Deformation written by I. Kovács and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-08 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dislocations and Plastic Deformation deals with dislocations and plastic deformation, and specifically discusses topics ranging from deformation of single crystals and dislocations in the lattice to the fundamentals of the continuum theory, the properties of point defects in crystals, multiplication of dislocations, and partial dislocations. The effect of lattice defects on the physical properties of metals is also considered. Comprised of nine chapters, this book begins by providing a short and, where possible, precise explanation of dislocation theory. The first six chapters discuss the properties of dislocations and point defects both in crystals and in an elastic continuum. The reader is then introduced to some applications of dislocation theory that show, for instance, the difficulties involved in understanding the hardening of alloys and the work-hardening of pure metals. This book concludes by analyzing the effect of heat treatment on the defect structure in metals. This text will be of interest to students and practitioners in the field of physics.

Book Handbook of Nanoscience Engineering and Technology

Download or read book Handbook of Nanoscience Engineering and Technology written by William A. Goddard III and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 1075 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his 1959 address, "There is Plenty of Room at the Bottom," Richard P. Feynman speculated about manipulating materials atom by atom and challenged the technical community "to find ways of manipulating and controlling things on a small scale." This visionary challenge has now become a reality, with recent advances enabling atomistic-level tailoring and control of materials. Exemplifying Feynman’s vision, Handbook of Nanoscience, Engineering, and Technology, Third Edition continues to explore innovative nanoscience, engineering, and technology areas. Along with updating all chapters, this third edition extends the coverage of emerging nano areas even further. Two entirely new sections on energy and biology cover nanomaterials for energy storage devices, photovoltaics, DNA devices and assembly, digital microfluidic lab-on-a-chip, and much more. This edition also includes new chapters on nanomagnet logic, quantum transport at the nanoscale, terahertz emission from Bloch oscillator systems, molecular logic, electronic optics in graphene, and electromagnetic metamaterials. With contributions from top scientists and researchers from around the globe, this color handbook presents a unified, up-to-date account of the most promising technologies and developments in the nano field. It sets the stage for the next revolution of nanoscale manufacturing—where scalable technologies are used to manufacture large numbers of devices with complex functionalities.

Book Phonon Scattering in Condensed Matter

Download or read book Phonon Scattering in Condensed Matter written by W. Eisenmenger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Phonon Scattering in Condensed Matter held from August 22-26, 1983 at the University of Stuttgart. The preceding conferences were organized at Saint Maxime and Paris in 1972, at the University of Nottingham in 1975, and at the Brown University Providence/Rhode Island in 1979. The Stuttgart conference, like the preceding conferences, was mainly con cerned with "propagating" high-frequency acoustic phonons, mechanical waves and heat up to the lattice limiting frequency. Lattice dynamics, optical pho nons, phase transitions, etc., were included as far as they are involved in acoustical phonon scattering, propagation and generation. In this context the conference covered all aspects of acoustical phonon physics, especially generation of phonons, propagation, scattering and detection. Since acoustic phonons participate in most energy-transfer processes in solids and liquids, the field of interest is growing rapidly. Therefore exciting new developments of acoustic phonon physics could be presented at the Stuttgart conference as well as important progress with respect to well-known problems, as, for example, the Kapitza resistance. Two hundred and six scientists from 21 countries attended the conference. Thirteen invited papers and 105 contributed papers, with 34 as posters, were presented. The discussions are included in this volume. A discussion session on large wave vector phonons was organized and chaired by V. Narayanamurti. A discussion session on phonon scattering at interfaces was organized and chaired by R.O. Pohl.

Book Nano scale Heat Transfer in Nanostructures

Download or read book Nano scale Heat Transfer in Nanostructures written by Jihong Al-Ghalith and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces modern atomistic techniques for predicting heat transfer in nanostructures, and discusses the applications of these techniques on three modern topics. The study of heat transport in screw-dislocated nanowires with low thermal conductivity in their bulk form represents the knowledge base needed for engineering thermal transport in advanced thermoelectric and electronic materials, and suggests a new route to lower thermal conductivity that could promote thermoelectricity. The study of high-temperature coating composite materials facilitates the understanding of the role played by composition and structural characterization, which is difficult to approach via experiments. And the understanding of the impact of deformations, such as bending and collapsing on thermal transport along carbon nanotubes, is important as carbon nanotubes, due to their exceptional thermal and mechanical properties, are excellent material candidates in a variety of applications, including thermal interface materials, thermal switches and composite materials.
