Book There Is Wisdom in Grandma s Hands

Download or read book There Is Wisdom in Grandma s Hands written by Evangelist Karen Tongue and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-03-30 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bible states that it is appointed unto man once to die. Each of us will have to pass by death in order to reach the next stage of life: eternal life in heaven or hell. We have known about the existence of heaven and hell since the beginning of time. It is not the will of God for any to perish. That means though we have to die God does not want us to go to hell. We can have an assurance of life everlasting in heaven with Christ Jesus our Lord. There are many wonderful things prepared in heaven for those of us who overcome this life and receive our great rewards in heaven for living a life unto Christ. Many people have lost loved ones along life's way. Some of these loved ones have been gone for many years and people are still grieving and mourning over them deeply. God wants you to come to him and find health and healing in the safety of his loving arms. To receive this healing we must come to him and accept his plan of salvation. Salvation is the beginning to healing, love, and acceptance. In Christ, we find hope and peace that surpasses all human understanding. We learn who we are and we learn who we are in Christ. I pray this book will give every reader an expected hope and the joy of the Lord for strength.

The text of this book includes over 100 well-known proverbs, accompanied by the original thoughtful reflections of Dr. Mackie, with a direct application to twenty-first-century life. The pages are filled with glorious photographs of mothers and grandmothers in celebration of their unique cultural and maternal identity, surrounded with the love and affection of family. In each section, Dr. Mackie takes a familiar proverb and couples it with a passage from the Bible. The juxtaposition illustrates the biblical root of the common proverb alongside Dr. Mackie's own deeply personal observances of its truth, presented in relatable modern-day anecdotes from his life and his work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NATIONAL BESTSELLER "My Grandmother's Hands will change the direction of the movement for racial justice."— Robin DiAngelo, New York Times bestselling author of White Fragility In this groundbreaking book, therapist Resmaa Menakem examines the damage caused by racism in America from the perspective of trauma and body-centered psychology. The body is where our instincts reside and where we fight, flee, or freeze, and it endures the trauma inflicted by the ills that plague society. Menakem argues this destruction will continue until Americans learn to heal the generational anguish of white supremacy, which is deeply embedded in all our bodies. Our collective agony doesn't just affect African Americans. White Americans suffer their own secondary trauma as well. So do blue Americans—our police. My Grandmother's Hands is a call to action for all of us to recognize that racism is not only about the head, but about the body, and introduces an alternative view of what we can do to grow beyond our entrenched racialized divide. Paves the way for a new, body-centered understanding of white supremacy—how it is literally in our blood and our nervous system. Offers a step-by-step healing process based on the latest neuroscience and somatic healing methods, in addition to incisive social commentary. Resmaa Menakem, MSW, LICSW, is a therapist with decades of experience currently in private practice in Minneapolis, MN, specializing in trauma, body-centered psychotherapy, and violence prevention. He has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and Dr. Phil as an expert on conflict and violence. Menakem has studied with bestselling authors Dr. David Schnarch (Passionate Marriage) and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps the Score). He also trained at Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.

Book excerpt: My grandmother lived with us part of every year and I got to spend spent a lot of time with her. She didn't want to be treated like a guest, she wanted to help! I remember very clearly watching her crooked hands as they peeled apples for apple butter, crocheted a doily, or made a pie. Her hands were magic to me. The idea for this book came to me after the birth of my first grandchild. I looked down at the beautiful baby in my hands. It struck me that my hands were now a grandma's hands. The idea resonated with me and just took hold. We use our hands every day to take care of others just like my grandmother's loving hands did long ago and I wanted to write a book about hands in her honor. Grandma's Hands is a full-color picture book about hands -the hands that hold us, love us, and take care of us in big and small ways. In it I have used photographs to focus on the daily life of hands-holding a baby, cooking a meal, or climbing a tree! I think grandma would be pleased.

The girls set an extra place for him at the table. They whisper to him. They say he's going to take them away... Alfie calls upon Julia—Pippa's sister and a psychiatrist—to oust the malignant tenant from their lives. But as Alfie himself is haunted by visions and someone watches him at night, he begins to question the true character of the force that has poisoned his daughters' minds, with dark and violent consequences. Whatever this "friend" is, he doesn't want to leave. Alfie will have to confront his own shameful secrets, the dark past of Hart House, and even the bounds of reality—or risk taking part in an unspeakable tragedy.
