Book Recent Advances in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology

Download or read book Recent Advances in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology written by Seth Kwabena Amponsah and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-25 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an overview of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and its clinical application. It also highlights recent advances in toxicological studies, as they relate to therapeutic drug monitoring. This is one of the few books available on the market that covers TDM. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is a clinical decision-making tool that enables dosage regimen adjustments based on clinical and laboratory measurements. TDM not only involves the measuring of drug concentrations but also interpretation of the results. There is a strong correlation between drug concentrations in body fluids and outcome than between dose and outcome. The chapters include coverage of analytical techniques, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic indices, artificial intelligence and recent advances in toxicological studies. The book fills a gap in published literature and provides reliable information on; Analytical techniques in TDM and clinical toxicology TDM and pharmacokinetic studies TDM of drugs with narrow therapeutic indices Artificial intelligence in TDM and clinical toxicology Future directions and challenges

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Individualized Drug Therapy for Patients: Basic Foundations, Relevant Software and Clinical Applications focuses on quantitative approaches that maximize the precision with which dosage regimens of potentially toxic drugs can hit a desired therapeutic goal. This book highlights the best methods that enable individualized drug therapy and provides specific examples on how to incorporate these approaches using software that has been developed for this purpose. The book discusses where individualized therapy is currently and offers insights to the future. Edited by Roger Jelliffe, MD and Michael Neely, MD, renowned authorities in individualized drug therapy, and with chapters written by international experts, this book provides clinical pharmacologists, pharmacists, and physicians with a valuable and practical resource that takes drug therapy away from a memorized ritual to a thoughtful quantitative process aimed at optimizing therapy for each individual patient. - 2018 PROSE Awards - Honorable Mention, Clinical Medicine: Association of American Publishers - Uses pharmacokinetic approaches as the tools with which therapy is individualized - Provides examples using specific software that illustrate how best to apply these approaches and to make sense of the more sophisticated mathematical foundations upon which this book is based - Incorporates clinical cases throughout to illustrate the real-world benefits of using these approaches - Focuses on quantitative approaches that maximize the precision with which dosage regimens of potentially toxic drugs can hit a desired therapeutic goal

Book New Frontiers in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Biologics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Other Immune Mediated Inflammatory Diseases

Download or read book New Frontiers in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Biologics in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Other Immune Mediated Inflammatory Diseases written by Konstantinos Papamichael and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2023-12-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) has emerged as a useful tool for optimizing biological treatment in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMID). Reactive TDM has rationalized the management of primary non-response and secondary loss of response to biologics, while cumulative evidence suggests that proactive TDM is efficacious for optimizing anti-tumour necrosis factor (anti-TNF) therapy in patients with IBD. Proactive TDM can be very useful for optimizing biological therapy in specific IBD populations, such as pregnant women as well as patients with perianal fistulizing Crohn's disease and acute severe ulcerative colitis who are characterized by high drug clearance. Preliminary data suggest that proactive TDM may also have a role in de-escalating anti-TNF therapy in patients in clinical remission including stopping the immunomodulator when combined with anti-TNF therapy. However, several knowledge gaps and limitations hinder the wide implementation of TDM in clinical practice, including the optimal drug concentration to target the lag time between sampling and results and the lack of harmonization of TDM assays. Recent advances regarding the role of TDM include the use of rapid point-of-care assays and the incorporation of model-informed precision dosing. The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight the clinical utility of TDM and discuss the barriers and recent advances of TDM of biologics in IBD and other IMID.
