Book Theory of Jets in Ideal Fluids

Download or read book Theory of Jets in Ideal Fluids written by M. I. Gurevich and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory of Jets in Ideal Fluids focuses on the use of hydrodynamics in the theory of jets in ideal fluids. The publication first offers information on the introduction to the theory of plane and steady jet flows and flow from a vessel. Discussions focus on flow from a rectangular vessel with an orifice at a corner; vessel with a funnel-shaped bottom and Borda's nozzle; flow from the opening between two flat plates; and Kirchhoff's method. The text then examines infinite flow past a polygonal obstacle, flow around curvilinear obstacles, and flow around a body at small cavitation number. Topics include cavitating flow around a circular cylinder; cavitating flow around a thin profile at an arbitrary angle of attack; cavitating flow around a flat plate; Villat's integro-differential equation and the existence and uniqueness of the solution; and flow past a plate with the separation from its upper surface. The book takes a look at the flow of a heavy fluid and the effects of surface tension, axisymmetric flow, jet flow of compressible fluid, and unsteady flows. The publication is a dependable reference for hydrodynamicists wanting to explore the theory of jets in ideal fluids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 2: Jets, Wakes, and Cavities provides a systematic discussion of jets, wakes, and cavities. This book focuses on the general aspects of ideal fluid theory and examines the engineering applications of fluid dynamics. Organized into 15 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the different types of jets and explores the atomization of jets in carburetors in connection with gasoline engine design. This text then emphasizes the formal treatment of special flows and examines the flows that are bounded by flat plates and free streamlines. Other chapters consider the flows that are bounded by the cavity behind a symmetric wedge. This book discusses as well the intuitive momentum and similarity considerations. The final chapter deals with several surprising physical complications. Mathematician, physicists, engineers, and readers interested in the fields of applied mathematics, experimental physics, hydraulics, and aeronautics will find this book extremely useful.

Book Mechanics of Liquids and Gases

Download or read book Mechanics of Liquids and Gases written by L. G. Loitsyanskii and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanics of Liquids and Gases, Second Edition is a 10-chapter text that covers significant revisions concerning the dynamics of an ideal gas, a viscous liquid and a viscous gas. After an expanded introduction to the fundamental properties and methods of the mechanics of fluids, this edition goes on dealing with the kinetics and general questions of dynamics. The next chapters describe the one-dimensional pipe flow of a gas with friction, the elementary theory of the shock tube; Riemann's theory of the wave propagation of finite intensity, and the theory of plane subsonic and supersonic flows. Other chapters consider the elements of the theory of three-dimensional subsonic and supersonic flows past bodies; the fluctuating laminar flow in a uniform pipe of circular cross-section; the hydrodynamic theory of lubrication; the variational principle of Helmholtz; and the theory of plane and axisymmetric laminar jets. The remaining chapters look into the semi-empirical theories of turbulence and their application in the analysis of axisymmetric jets, with and without swirl, and in the calculation of the resistance of rough plates. These chapters also discuss the dynamics of a viscous gas and the elements of the theory of laminar and turbulent boundary layers at high speeds. This book will be of value to mechanical engineers, physicists, and researchers.

Book The Theory of Turbulent Jets

Download or read book The Theory of Turbulent Jets written by G. N. Abramovich and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1963 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's first monograph on turbulent jets, in 1936, dealt solely with a free submerged jet. Since that time, the theory of the turbulent jet has been developed in many published works both in the USSR and abroad: it has been enriched with a large amount of experimental material and has been applied in many new fields of engineering. In the last 10 years very substantial progress has been made, and it has now become possible to go beyond the free submerged jet and to solve the problem of a jet in a stream of fluid, to take into account the interaction between the jet and solid walls, to ascertain the relationship between the contour of the jet and the ratio of its density to the density of the surrounding medium, and to establish the characteristic features of a supersonic jet. This monograph contains the results of further research by the author and his colleagues, as well as a critical reappraisal of the more important theoretical and experimental data published by other investigators. The first section deals with the theory of a turbulent jet of incompressible fluid. It gives a systematic analysis of numerous experimental data on velocity profiles, temperature, and the impurity concentration, as well as the outlines of the turbulent mixing lone. The second section sets forth the theory of turbulent gas jets, including strongly preheated and supersonic jets. The theory of free turbulence in a gas, suitable in principle for any degree of compressibility, is revised, and the equations are derived for motion and heat exchange in the boundary layer of a jet at very high temperature. The third section solves several problems of the spreading of jets in finite and semifinite space, and the fourth section describes various applications of the theory of jets, many of which are reported for the first time or have been significantly revised.

Book Theory of Viscous fluid Jets

Download or read book Theory of Viscous fluid Jets written by L. A. Vulis and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the results of investigations of a broad and widespread category of incompressible fluid motions in the form of laminar and turbulent jets. The development of computational methods applicable to an important type of jet streams and based on a consistent and systematic study of jet flows with a theoretical approach is the aim of the monograph. There are four parts to the book, including a foreword and an introduction. The first part deals with the solutions of jet problems based on the exact Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluids and, in particular, with the Landau investigation of the propagation of a submerged axially symmetric viscous fluid jet issuing from a thin tube. The second part contains a detailed analysis of laminar jet streams of an incompressible fluid by methods of boundary layer theory. In addition to free jets flowing into a stationary medium or into homogeneous wake flows, semibounded jets (wall jets) are considered. Turbulent jets of liquids and gases are the subjects of the third part, in which self-similar solutions for free and wall jet sources are investigated. It also contains detailed experimental data obtained under the guidance of one of the authors in thermophysical laboratories in Alma Ata for comparison with the theoretical results. The fourth part deals with certain theoretical and experimental problems of jet streams which may be regarded as complementary to the main topics treated in this book. Among them are complex turbulent jet streams, patterns of diffusion flames, and jets in magnetohydrodynamics. (Author).

Book On the Applicability of Directed Fluid Jets to Newtonian and Non Newtonian Flows

Download or read book On the Applicability of Directed Fluid Jets to Newtonian and Non Newtonian Flows written by P. M. Naghdi and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper elaborates on the applicability of a direct formulation of the theory of jets to Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid flow problems. Following a general discussion of the nature of direct theories, we record the basic equations of the theory of directed curves for any finite number of directors. Reference is then made to some recent results for incompressible Newtonian viscous flows, including the problem of jet breakup. The major portion of the paper is concerned with application of the direct approach to an incompressible non-Newtonian Poiseuille flow in a circular pipe. The results are compared to those of the three-dimensional theory and are found to include the effect of normal force corresponding to the normal stress effect. (Author).
