Download or read book Elliptic Functions According to Eisenstein and Kronecker written by Andre Weil and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawn from the Foreword: (...) On the other hand, since much of the material in this volume seems suitable for inclusion in elementary courses, it may not be superfluous to point out that it is almost entirely self-contained. Even the basic facts about trigonometric functions are treated ab initio in Ch. II, according to Eisenstein's method. It would have been both logical and convenient to treat the gamma -function similarly in Ch. VII; for the sake of brevity, this has not been done, and a knowledge of some elementary properties of T(s) has been assumed. One further prerequisite in Part II is Dirichlet's theorem on Fourier series, together with the method of Poisson summation which is only a special case of that theorem; in the case under consideration (essentially no more than the transformation formula for the theta-function) this presupposes the calculation of some classical integrals. (...) As to the final chapter, it concerns applications to number theory (...).
Download or read book Kronecker s Jugendtraum and Modular Functions written by Serge G. Vlăduț and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the second half of the 19th century, Leopold Kronecker cherished a dream, his Jugendtraum, that he should see the formulation of a complete theory of complex multiplication. Kronecker's papers devoted to his Jugendtraum constitute the foundations of the arithmetical theory of modular functions. Vladut has studied the dream, and traces the development of elliptic function theory from its genesis to its most recent achievements. Included is a reprint of Kronecker's 1886 paper which presents many of the principal ideas of the arithmetical theory of modular functions. Translated from the Russian. Download or read book Lectures on the Theory of Elliptic Functions written by Harris Hancock and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prized for its extensive coverage of classical material, this text is also well regarded for its unusual fullness of treatment and its comprehensive discussion of both theory and applications. The author developes the theory of elliptic integrals, beginning with formulas establishing the existence, formation, and treatment of all three types, and concluding with the most general description of these integrals in terms of the Riemann surface. The theories of Legendre, Abel, Jacobi, and Weierstrass are developed individually and correlated with the universal laws of Riemann. The important contributory theorems of Hermite and Liouville are also fully developed. 1910 ed.

Download or read book Elliptic Functions written by J. V. Armitage and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-09-28 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its first six chapters this 2006 text seeks to present the basic ideas and properties of the Jacobi elliptic functions as an historical essay, an attempt to answer the fascinating question: 'what would the treatment of elliptic functions have been like if Abel had developed the ideas, rather than Jacobi?' Accordingly, it is based on the idea of inverting integrals which arise in the theory of differential equations and, in particular, the differential equation that describes the motion of a simple pendulum. The later chapters present a more conventional approach to the Weierstrass functions and to elliptic integrals, and then the reader is introduced to the richly varied applications of the elliptic and related functions. Applications spanning arithmetic (solution of the general quintic, the functional equation of the Riemann zeta function), dynamics (orbits, Euler's equations, Green's functions), and also probability and statistics, are discussed.
Download or read book Ideas and Their Reception written by David E. Rowe and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The History of Modern Mathematics, Volume I: Ideas and their Reception documents the proceedings of the Symposium on the History of Modern Mathematics held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York on June 20-24, 1989. This book is concerned with the emergence and reception of major ideas in fields that range from foundations and set theory, algebra and invariant theory, and number theory to differential geometry, projective and algebraic geometry, line geometry, and transformation groups. Other topics include the theory of reception for the history of mathematics and British synthetic vs. French analytic styles of algebra in the early American Republic. The early geometrical works of Sophus Lie and Felix Klein, background to Gergonne's treatment of duality, and algebraic geometry in the late 19th century are also elaborated. This volume is intended for students and researchers interested in developments in pure mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upon Ramanujans death in 1920, G. H. Hardy strongly urged that Ramanujans notebooks be published and edited. In 1957, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bombay finally published a photostat edition of the notebooks, but no editing was undertaken. In 1977, Berndt began the task of editing Ramanujans notebooks: proofs are provided to theorems not yet proven in previous literature, and many results are so startling as to be unique.
