Download or read book Theoretical Studies of the Reactions and Spectroscopy of Radical Species Relevant to Combustion Reactions and Diagnostics Progress Report 16 March 1992 15 March 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes work performed as part of Department of Energy grant DE-FGO2-91ER14189 during the period 16 March 1992--15 March 1993 and outlines directions for future research. During this period we have developed a new method for determining points on the surface of intersection of two potential energy surfaces corresponding to states of distinct spin-multiplicity. This approach allows any number of geometrical parameters to be fixed while the remainder are optimized to minimize the energy of the point on the crossing surface. This algorithm will significantly enhance our ability to characterize spin-forbidden electronically nonadiabatic processes.

This book was released on 1991 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactions of OH radicals with hydrocarbons have received a great deal of attention in recent years because of these processes are principal steps in the oxidation of organic fuels -- whether occurring in combustion/propulsion systems, in the atmosphere, or elsewhere. Of the various radicals capable of attacking hydrocarbons, OH radicals are generally the most reactive, and their reactions directly yield water molecules, one of the major final oxidation products. In the atmosphere, the combined effect of the OH radical's reactivity and concentration make it the single species that determines the atmospheric lifetime of an organic substance. The principal goals of the kineticist in the field of oxidation chemistry are (1) to measure as many elementary reaction rate coefficients as are conveniently studied in the laboratory; and (2) to develop theoretical and/or semiempirical tools for extrapolating from measured rate coefficients to unmeasured ones. The latter step is necessary because of the sheer number of reactions of possible interest.

Book Infrared Spectroscopy of Organic Free Radicals Related to Combustion Processes Annual Progress Report February 14 1993 February 14 1994

This book was released on 1994 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments were done to resolve internal rotor states in parent cations of aromatic molecules cooled in skimmed, pulsed nozzle expansion. Internal rotation of methyl and silyl groups attached to aromatic rings was studied. S1-S0 spectra were measured using one-color R2PI (resonant two-photon ionization). Ab initio calculations using the GAUSSIAN package were carried out. For various neutral and cationic ground states with threefold or sixfold barriers, effects of different levels of theory on calculated barrier height and phase were tested. The HF/6-31G* level of theory was used to calculate V6 and V3 for a variety of S0 molecules. Distortions of the phenyl ring and precession of rotor axis as the methyl group rotates are discussed.

Book Mathematical Modelling of Gas Phase Complex Reaction Systems Pyrolysis and Combustion

Download or read book Mathematical Modelling of Gas Phase Complex Reaction Systems Pyrolysis and Combustion written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-06-21 with total page 1034 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Modelling of Gas-Phase Complex Reaction Systems: Pyrolysis and Combustion, Volume 45, gives an overview of the different steps involved in the development and application of detailed kinetic mechanisms, mainly relating to pyrolysis and combustion processes. The book is divided into two parts that cover the chemistry and kinetic models and then the numerical and statistical methods. It offers a comprehensive coverage of the theory and tools needed, along with the steps necessary for practical and industrial applications. Details thermochemical properties and "ab initio" calculations of elementary reaction rates Details kinetic mechanisms of pyrolysis and combustion processes Explains experimental data for improving reaction models and for kinetic mechanisms assessment Describes surrogate fuels and molecular reconstruction of hydrocarbon liquid mixtures Describes pollutant formation in combustion systems Solves and validates the kinetic mechanisms using numerical and statistical methods Outlines optimal design of industrial burners and optimization and dynamic control of pyrolysis furnaces Outlines large eddy simulation of turbulent reacting flows
