Book Theoretical Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of Gases at High Temperatures

Download or read book Theoretical Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of Gases at High Temperatures written by H. H. Michels and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research performed under this contract was directed primarily into two areas. In the first, an analysis of the problems of calculating the thermodynamic properties of a high temperature gas was undertaken in an effort to find reliable methods of extending present data to much higher temperatures. Accurate thermodynamic data are especially required for the high temperature region, perhaps to temperatures reaching 6000 Kelvin for systems deriving their energy from chemical reactions and to substantially higher temperatures for plasma systems. In the second area, an analysis was undertaken of problems associated with the prediction of transport properties in high temperature gas mixtures, especially systems with some degree of ionization or molecular excitation. A precise knowledge of the various interaction potentials between the reacting species is essential for a complete understanding of the high temperature behavior of such systems and for calculating the transport properties. Book Progress in International Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties

Download or read book Progress in International Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties written by Eric F. Lype and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 773 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in International Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties covers the proceedings of the 1962 Second Symposium by the same title, held at Purdue University and the Thermophysical Properties Research Center. This symposium brings together theoretical and experimental research works on the thermodynamic and transport properties of gases, liquids, and solids. This text is organized into nine parts encompassing 68 chapters that cover topics from thixotropy to molecular orbital calculations. The first three parts review papers on theoretical, experimental, and computational studies of the various aspects of thermodynamic properties. These parts discuss the principles of phase equilibria, throttling, volume heat capacity, steam, volumetric behavior, enthalpy, and density. The subsequent part highlights the theoretical evaluations of transport properties, such as viscosity, diffusion, and conductivity, as well as the transport processes. These topics are followed by surveys of the theories in intermolecular forces and their applications. Other parts consider the measurement of thermal conductivity, viscosity, and radiation. The final parts examine the properties of ionized gases and non-Newtonian fluids. This book will prove useful to mechanical and chemical engineers.

Download or read book THEORETICAL THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF GASES AT HIGH TEMPERATURES AND DENSITIES WITH NUMERICAL RESULTS FOR HYDROGEN written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The partition function corresponding to an equation of state for a high-temperature, high-density gas suggested by J.S. Rowlinson was derived. The equations for selected thermodynamic properties of the gas are obtained from this partition function using statistical thermodynamics. These equations are used to calculate results for the case of hydrogen in the range of temperature between 500K and 3000K and in the range of density between 1 and 2000 amagats.

Book Aqueous Systems at Elevated Temperatures and Pressures

Download or read book Aqueous Systems at Elevated Temperatures and Pressures written by Roberto Fernandez-Prini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-06 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) has produced this book in order to provide an accessible, up-to-date overview of important aspects of the physical chemistry of aqueous systems at high temperatures and pressures. These systems are central to many areas of scientific study and industrial application, including electric power generation, industrial steam systems, hydrothermal processing of materials, geochemistry, and environmental applications. The authors’ goal is to present the material at a level that serves both the graduate student seeking to learn the state of the art, and also the industrial engineer or chemist seeking to develop additional expertise or to find the data needed to solve a specific problem. The wide range of people for whom this topic is important provides a challenge. Advanced work in this area is distributed among physical chemists, chemical engineers, geochemists, and other specialists, who may not be aware of parallel work by those outside their own specialty. The particular aspects of high-temperature aqueous physical chemistry of interest to one industry may be irrelevant to another; yet another industry might need the same basic information but in a very different form. To serve all these constituencies, the book includes several chapters that cover the foundational thermophysical properties (such as gas solubility, phase behavior, thermodynamic properties of solutes, and transport properties) that are of interest across numerous applications. The presentation of these topics is intended to be accessible to readers from a variety of backgrounds. Other chapters address fundamental areas of more specialized interest, such as critical phenomena and molecular-level solution structure. Several chapters are more application-oriented, addressing areas such as power-cycle chemistry and hydrothermal synthesis. As befits the variety of interests addressed, some chapters provide more theoretical guidance while others, such as those on acid/base equilibria and the solubilities of metal oxides and hydroxides, emphasize experimental techniques and data analysis. - Covers both the theory and applications of all Hydrothermal solutions - Provides an accessible, up-to-date overview of important aspects of the physical chemistry of aqueous systems at high temperatures and pressures - The presentation of the book is understandable to readers from a variety of backgrounds
