Book The World Through Dexter s Eyes

Download or read book The World Through Dexter s Eyes written by Vickie Versace Mullins and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dexter comes into the world with many problems, and he turns his family’s life upside down. Outside and lonely, he pulls the siding off the house, destroys the back door, chews up the cable wires and wood patio furniture. Inside, he does more of the same. He appears to not be trainable, so out of frustration, Mom contacts a dog whisperer who tells her Dexter died in a storm in a past life. And when he could not find his family on the other side, he grabbed the first body back, into the world, to try again. There is something very familiar about this story to Mom. Then again, maybe she just feels sorry for the poor deaf guy. Whatever, Mom has tremendous compassion towards Dexter, and there was never such a bond between master and dog; one so strong, he telepathically conveys his story, to her. This book is funny, sad, sweet and deep and a little inverted as it is from Dexter’s point of view. For all his antics, he is redeemed as all he wants to do on this earth is love. And it isn’t until he and Mom figure out the riddle the dog whisperer presented to them, that Dexter becomes the dog he was meant to be. Then miracles happen; grannies die, daughters go away to school, marriages fall apart, but love prevails.

Book Taking Things Hard

Download or read book Taking Things Hard written by Robert Garnett and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2023-06-14 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: F. Scott Fitzgerald published America’s favorite novel, The Great Gatsby, at the young age of twenty-eight. Despite this extraordinary early achievement, Fitzgerald finished just one novel in the next (and last) fifteen years of his life, ending as a mostly unemployed Hollywood screenwriter. Taking Things Hard reveals the story behind the now-iconic Gatsby, along with Fitzgerald’s struggle to write anything that matched its brilliance. Robert R. Garnett’s new biographical study of Fitzgerald’s life and work begins by constructing a portrait of the young man who would wholly and uniquely pour himself into writing Gatsby. In the years following its publication, Fitzgerald continued penning stories, some of them among his finest, yet it took him nine years to complete another novel. The downward trajectory of his career had interweaving causes, among them arrogance, irresponsibility, his troubled marriage to Zelda Sayre, financial improvidence, and a destructive alcoholism. At the root of it all, though, lingered the simple fact that Fitzgerald’s most intense and profound experiences had come early, during his truncated undergraduate years at Princeton and the months following his February 1919 discharge from the army. Taking Things Hard provides a fresh look at the imaginative sources of Fitzgerald’s fiction and considers the elements, drawn from the keen impressions and salient emotions of its author’s youth, that make Gatsby a book that still speaks powerfully to readers.

Book The World s Smartest Detectives

Download or read book The World s Smartest Detectives written by Arthur Conan Doyle and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 1787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A treasure trove of mysteries drawn from the case files of the world’s cleverest private investigators. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes features many of the consulting detective’s best-known cases. “A Scandal in Bohemia” finds Holmes matching wits with—and being outfoxed by—a beautiful American opera singer. A struggling shop owner stumbles into a lucrative side job, and a criminal conspiracy, in “The Red-Headed League.” And in “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” which Arthur Conan Doyle named as the best of his Sherlock Holmes stories, our brilliant hero and his loyal friend Dr. Watson pay a visit to a young heiress’s bedroom late one night, only to stumble across another, far deadlier visitor. Martin Hewitt, Investigator stars a former law clerk turned private investigator who is every bit the deductive equal of Sherlock Holmes. A true master of disguise with a mind as sharp as a freshly stropped straight razor, Hewitt possess a familiarity with London’s night streets and an easy rapport with members of the lower classes. From a troubling series of robberies that occurred at the same residence over several months to a locked-room suicide that was decidedly not self-inflicted, the great detective finds irrefutable solutions to the most unsolvable of mysteries. The Old Man in the Corner is a fascinating study in the art of logical deduction by the author of The Scarlet Pimpernel. The most brilliant sleuth in London sits in the corner of the A.B.C. café, a length of string in his fingers. As the afternoon winds down, he ties and unties intricate knots—in the string and in his mind. No matter how baffling the crime, the old man in the corner need only read the newspaper accounts to know the culprit. The Thinking Machine relates the most confounding cases solved by the brilliant criminologist Professor S. F. X. Van Dusen. Slender, stooped, his appearance dominated by his large forehead and perpetual squint, “The Thinking Machine” spends his days in the laboratory and his nights puzzling over the details of extraordinary crimes. Whether unraveling the perfect murder, investigating a case of corporate espionage, or reasoning his way out of an inescapable prison cell, Van Dusen knows that with the application of logic, all problems can be solved. This ebook features new introductions by Otto Penzler and has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

Village shenanigans, an eccentric cast of lovable characters and a catch up with Gaby and Jack of Highland Fling fame, Highland Heart explores what happens once the initial spark wears off. Reviews of Highland Fling from Amazon.co.uk: “It's a great mix of funny moments and that ‘does he like me’ awkwardness. This book is full of witty dialogue, quirky characters you just know you'd recognise if you met them, and scenery that comes to life, making you want to hop in your car and go there.” “Took only 4 nights to devour this book, and I loved every page. The story and characters were very credible, in that the lead man is somebody I wouldn’t mind the “love guru” setting me up with. A great funny romantic read, ideal for holidays or a rainy day in.” Reviews of Highland Fling from goodreads.com “A hilarious book full of quirky characters and deliciously super awkward moments. Gaby was easy to relate to and her love interest definitely swoon-worthy :) Made me want to visit Scotland.” Visit the author’s website for all things Scottish, romcom, women’s fiction and more: https://emmabaird.com
