Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Agricultural Situation, Vol. 41: November 1957 Extra-large crop yields per acre have been telling a production success story for many farmers during the past 5 years. They also spell lower per unit production costs, even if bulging bins everywhere don't always mean bigger profits. Extra-high yields are a per sonal achievement, nature's own merit awards in the contest of skill, work, and chance we call farming. The combined effect of these indi vidual successes is a striking advance in national per-acre yields. Yields this year are climaxing a 6-year unbroken series of gains in overall yield which started in 1952. October 1 data place the 1957 yield-per-acre level more than a fourth higher than in 1947 - 49. These are years used by the Department of Agriculture as a base for comparing yield per acre, crop output, and other items. Incomes to farmers are expected to average in 1958 much the same as this year. Large supplies, a strong domestic market, and near record exp-orts are likely. The long-run downtrend in number of farms and farm people will likely result in more income per farm. And per person living on farms in 1958. Larger cash receipts from market ings of livestock products are offsetting a decline in crop receipts this year. Soil Bank payments are likely to add about 680 million dollars to gross ih come. But farmers' production ex penses are also up and farmers' real izod net income this year will be only slightly above 1956. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The World Agricultural Situation, 1960 The supply of farm products should exceed the high 1958-59 level. Sharp increases in stocks partly offset the decrease in wheat production, may have compensated for the drop in sugar production, and raised feed grain supplies to a new record high. Coffee stocks and supplies are also larger than ever before. Stocks of cotton, on the other hand, showed little change, remaining well below the August 1, 1956, peak. The expected increase in production, however, will bring supplies to record levels. Wool stocks, which increased considerably during 1958, decreased to more nearly normal levels in exporting countries during 1959 as trade expanded.
