Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's world was created "very good," Genesis chapter 1 tells us, and in this book Jon Garvey rediscovers the truth, known to the Church for its first 1,500 years but largely forgotten now, that the fall of mankind did not lessen that goodness. The natural creation does not require any apologies or excuses, but rather celebration and praise. The author's re-examination of the scriptural evidence, the writings of two millennia of Christian theologians, and the physical evidence of the world itself lead to the conclusion that we, both as Christians and as modern Westerners, have badly misunderstood our world. Restoring a truer vision of the goodness of the present creation can transform our own lives, sharpen the ministry of the church to the world of both people and nature, and give us a better understanding of what God always intended to bring about through Christ in the age to come.

Book The World According to God

Download or read book The World According to God written by Fx Cronin and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When author F. X. Cronin became a Catholic, many of his friends challenged him, claiming not only that the Catholic Faith is untrue but also that truth itself does not exist. In this warm response to such enduring claims, Cronin takes skeptics and believers alike on a delightful tour of reality, starting with proofs for the existence of truth itself. Thereafter, Cronin considers "€" and refutes "€" step by step, most of our culture's common relativistic beliefs, demonstrating not only the existence of God but also the truth of Christianity, and in particular of the Catholic Faith. Doubters will be won over by Cronin's gracious exhortations to lay aside for a moment their often reflexive assumptions in order to ponder with him the evidence he brings forth. Believers will be surprised by his piercing insights into realities that, if truth be told, most of us have insufficiently pondered ourselves. All will be delighted by his lyrical appeals to mind and heart, both of which must be engaged by anyone who would grasp in its entirety our remarkable world and its abundant evidence for the reality and glory of God. Among the dozens of topics Cronin explores here are: -Knowledge: How we can know for certain the right answers about life and living -Materialism: Why faith isn't blind "€" but materialism and moral relativism are -Science: How, in too many ways, modern science has actually become anti-scientific -Miracles: Why God's nature requires that He answer prayers and even perform miracles -Morality: How it's not just a list of prohibitions, but the very gateway to love and peace -And much more to immerse you in the whole world according to God and guide you through its wonders!

  • Pages : 426 pages

Book excerpt: The doctrine of creation has often been neglected in Christian theology. Distinguished evangelical theologian Jonathan Wilson exposes what has been missing in current theological discourse and offers an original, constructive work on this doctrine. The book unites creation and redemption, showing the significance of God's work of creation for understanding the good news of redemption in Jesus Christ. Wilson develops a trinitarian account of the life of the world and sets forth how to live wisely, hopefully, peaceably, joyfully, and generously in that world. He also shows how a mature doctrine of creation can help the church think practically about contemporary issues, including creation care, sexuality, technology, food and water, and more.

Book If God Is Good Why Is The World So Bad

Download or read book If God Is Good Why Is The World So Bad written by Benjamin Blech and published by Health Communications, Inc.. This book was released on 2003-09-08 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these troubled times, people are asking very difficult questions about God and their faith: If I suffer, does that mean I deserve it? Why do innocent people, especially children, die tragically? How can God be so cruel? Does God ever intervene during times of trouble? Who really runs the world-God or man? Do my prayers do any good? Why does God allow sickness, torture and evil to exist? Benjamin Blech admits, the answers are not simple. There is no one-size-fits-all explanation. Indeed, not only are there many answers, but in different situations several explanations may apply. Blech wrote this book as an intellectual analysis of Jewish wisdom on the subject of suffering. His theories are the fruit of thousands of years of debate, examination and struggle. Jewish wisdom teaches that there are rich and inspiring answers to the ultimate question: If God is good, why is the world so bad? Take part in the most important spiritual journey of all-the quest for serenity in the face of adversity-and discover that in the accumulated wisdom of the ages lies a time-tested solution for turning despair into hope and sorrow into faith.

Book God the Best and Evil

Download or read book God the Best and Evil written by Bruce Langtry and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2008-05-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God, the Best, and Evil is an original treatment of some longstanding problems about God and his actions towards human beings. First, Bruce Langtry explores some implications of divine omnipotence, omniscience, and perfect goodness for God's providence. In particular, he investigates whether God is in some sense a maximizer. Second, he assesses the strength of objections to the existence of God that are based on the apparent fact that God could have created a better world than this one. Finally, he assesses the strength of objections to the existence of God that focus on the problem of evil. To create a (possible) world is to strongly or weakly actualize it. A world is prime if God can create it, and he cannot create a world better than it. This book's conclusions include the following: (1) If there is at least one prime world, then if God does create some world he will create a prime world. (2) If there are no prime worlds, then it does not follow that God does not exist. Instead, what follows is that if God creates a world he will create one that is good enough, despite the fact that he could create a world which is better. (3) This conclusion does not give rise to a good objection to theism, based on the apparent fact that the actual world is improvable and yet it is not good enough (4) Even if there is a best world, or several equal-best worlds, God cannot create any of them. (5) A good partial theodicy for evil can be provided, appealing to goods bound up with human free will, moral responsibility, and the roles of individuals' own personal traits in shaping their own and other people's lives. The partial theodicy is neutral between Theological Compatibilism and libertarianism. (6) The problem of evil does not provide a very strong objection to the existence of God.

Reading this book will surely help you to become one of them, especially when you do so in an unbiased fashion, with willingness to accept new ideas and novel thoughts on many different subjects and topics. This is a book for truth seekers. And it is - for the most part - aimed at people who possess a broad-spectrum academic knowledge. In essence, it is an intellectually engaging textbook, which offers a novel approach to Scientific Naturalism. And so, it is not intended for people with limiting religious views or for those who are harbouring various modern-day dogmatic beliefs. It is a comprehensive and well-researched book, which contains many new theses. That's why you do not need to just read this book. You need to put the book down for a time and then come back to it again, instead of reading it at once from the beginning to the end. In other words, you need to take your time and digest it slowly... There are many profound insights covered in its chapters that will make you think. It explores in depth the nature of our existence and investigates the scientific basis of happiness. "The World According To Good Gods" contains many self-explanatory truths, which on the whole supplement the general framework of the new-fangled worldview presented on its pages. Therefore, many references, which support the observations presented in this book, are deliberately omitted - as they are clearly not needed for people with adequate general knowledge. Reading this book will help you take a step back and look at the big picture. Your life picture. Are you truly happy? Is there something important missing in your life? Do you often ponder what the meaning of your life actually is? Do you often query whether there is a God? Do you sincerely think that you have a really good education? In any case, do you know beyond any doubt what a truly good education is? Do you relate to any of these questions? If yes, then you must read this book. "The World According To Good Gods" consists of six separate parts which deal with the complexity of these intertwined issues. Part one is titled: "Myths, happiness and the sense of life". It deals with the general theory of happiness. It makes blatantly obvious that being happy is the combined summation of all reasons why we exist. Part two deals with various subjects like: genesis of all existence, chaos, good and evil, natural ethical principles, science and laws of nature. Part three is about important characteristics of natural and man-made laws and cognitive optimism. Part four talks about natural personal identity, various social aspects of our happiness, gender balance, metaphysics of culture and disintegration of the spirit. Part five is dedicated to such topics as the concept of 'satan', dogmatic systems and the spiritual evolution of the human race. Part six explains what the top quality, free and universal system of education and upbringing actually is. This is the knowledge you've been searching and waiting for! All you must do is say: "YES!"
