Recently a pinnacle rock, with 8 feet of water, has been struck by a vessel in the middle of Whale Passage, of which there was no indication on the published chart. A rock with 21 feet in Sumner Strait has just been reported. On the Atlantic coast N. H. Heck and J. H. Hawley are dragging the region from Boston Harbor to the entrance to the Cape Cod Canal. A special publication by these officers on wire-drag work on the Atlantic coast, with an analysis of the cost of wire-drag work in various localities, has recently been approved for publication.
