Book The Wog S Diary

Download or read book The Wog S Diary written by Dinos the Greek and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Fathers Day, I hadnt received any calls from my kids. As I lay on the couch, my whole life flashed before me, remembering I left Greece as a young boy working on a ship as a captain cadet. I jumped ship in Australia and became an illegal immigrant. I write about my first job, first affair, going to Sydney, and my first job at the Sydney Water Board, highlighting the corruption. I also write about the job I got at Julia Creek and how the company went broke and the odyssey of four days trying to reach Sydney with no money. I talk about the job I had at Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme, highlighting the illegal gambling; the job I had at the CDW in Sydney; and my painting career. I write about the Australian culture and drinking at pubs every lunch time. I write about meeting my first wife and having two children and an unsuccessful marriage. I had a lot of affairs, and I did like the nightlife. The economy slowed down, and I started working at Ansett in the scullery section. I also talk about being a union delegate of the LTU (John Morris was the then secretary and labor senator). There was a lot of controversy, and I had to change sections after pressure from Ansett. I feared for my life, and I was forced to leave the company. I write about the seventies and eighties and the nightlife, entertainment, discos, bars, and piano bars, including the best of them allJulianas at the Hilton Hotel, the Americas Cup Bar, and the Centerpoint Piano Bar. I write about how I experienced the nightlife and the affairs. In other words, I did it my way. I write about divorcing my first wife; how I met my second wife, who also bore me two children; and the death of my wife at age forty-five.

Book Sergeant Kennedy s World War Ii Diary

Download or read book Sergeant Kennedy s World War Ii Diary written by William M. Kennedy and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-30 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a journal spanning from October 30, 1942 to October 29th 1945 through which the author recounts his days abroad serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. Kennedy begins his memoir by admitting to a reluctance toward fighting in the war before bringing readers down a path fraught with detailed descriptions of life aboard a warship and in various countries around the world. Whether describing the war-littered desert streets of Tobruk, Africa, the grandeur of Rome, or the breathtaking sight of Capri, Italy, the author places readers deep into his penetrating remembrances. Kennedys forthright honesty and unique experiences will give readers insight into the harsh realities of being away from home and a new wife for three years, as well as an insight into the bonds of friendship and camaraderie that result from soldiers serving together. The pictures not only add a personal touch to an already moving memoir, but help readers match faces with the colorful characters about whom Kennedy writes.

Book Fred Lodge s Diaries

Download or read book Fred Lodge s Diaries written by L/Cpl Frederick Thomas Lodge and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2019-06-10 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wartime diaries of Fred Lodge underscore his perilous passage through World War 2 including the Dieppe Raid and three years as a POW in Germany. Fred was a quiet, kind, considerate and courageous young Canadian who trained in Canada as an infantry soldier; practiced his military skills in England; waded onshore at Pourville, France on August 19th, 1942; survived intense German gunfire; saw his buddies killed, maimed, indeed slaughtered. Somehow he survived that awful day at Dieppe and was transported to Stalag VIIIB and later to Stalag IIC in eastern Germany. As a POW he was often hungry, bored, shamed, shackled, witnessed summary executions and was forced to participate in a death march in early, 1945. Through it all Fred Lodge was courageous and true to his beliefs no matter what obstacles, temptations or mistreatment came his way. He always did his best and the "right" thing. Fred didn't hate Germans although he had no respect for inhumane NAZI zealots. With the Russian Army fast approaching, Canadian POWs were evacuated westwards in January,1945 in bone-chilling cold and snow. Over four months they were marched west with little food, no warm clothing, little shelter and no reason to think they might survive. However, Fred and most of his fellow POWs did survive and in late April, 1945 they were liberated and returned to England. Somehow Fred Lodge remained the same quiet, kind, considerate and courageous man he was at the beginning. This story, as told by Fred Lodge himself, is a gripping tale. He passed through the hell of war and emerged whole, could you do the same?

Book Diary of a Philosophy Student

Download or read book Diary of a Philosophy Student written by Simone de Beauvoir and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2024-01-04 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written between the age of eighteen and twenty-one, the entries in the third volume of Diary of a Philosophy Student take readers into Simone de Beauvoir’s thoughts while illuminating the people and ideas swirling around her. The pages offer rare insights into Beauvoir’s intellectual development; her early experiences with love, desire, and freedom; and relationships with friends like Élisabeth “Zaza” Lacoin, and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. It also presents Beauvoir’s shocking account of Jean-Paul Sartre’s sexual assault of her during their first sexual encounter--a revelation certain to transform views of her life and philosophy. In addition, the editors include a wealth of important supplementary material. Barbara Klaw provides a detailed consideration of the Diary’s role in the development of Beauvoir’s writing style by exploring her use of metanarrative and other literary techniques, part of a process of literary creation that saw Beauvoir use the notebooks to cultivate her talent. Margaret A. Simons’s essay places the assault by Sartre within an appraisal of Beauvoir’s complicated legacy for #MeToo while suggesting readers engage with the diary through the lens of trauma.

Book Secret Diary of a 1970s Secretary

Download or read book Secret Diary of a 1970s Secretary written by Sarah Shaw and published by Constable. This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Portland Place is the diary of Sarah Shaw for the year of 1971, which she recently uncovered whilst clearing out her loft. Working as a secretary for the BBC at the time, Sarah's diary describes the life of a suburban girl who certainly wasn't 'swinging' but who was, ironically, not only working on a cutting edge BBC survey on sex education but also in the throes of an unlikely affair with middle-aged, working-class, Irish lift attendant, Frank. Sarah talks humorously and frankly about what it was like to be a young, working woman at the time as well as life at the BBC during the 1970s and the difficulties of navigating her first romance. She is funny and self-effacing with a self-knowledge that only few attain. Her innocence and naivety are hugely charming and the diary forms a valuable snapshot of a time not so far away that is now lost to us.
