Book The Activist s Media Handbook

Download or read book The Activist s Media Handbook written by David Fenton and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Activist and public relations thought leader David Fenton shares lessons on how to organize successful media campaigns, cultivated from more than half a century working within some of history’s most impactful social movements. In an extraordinary career David Fenton has learned first-hand what to do—and not to do—to propel progressive causes into the public eye and create real, impactful, lasting change. A visionary activist, Fenton has been the driving force behind some of the most important and history-making campaigns of the last 50 years, from the No-Nukes concerts with Bruce Springsteen in 1979, to the campaigns to free Nelson Mandela and end apartheid in the late 1980s, exposing the dangers of toxic chemicals in our food, the long battle to legalize marijuana and end racist drug laws, the misinformation in Washington during the Bush era in the 2000s, and recent campaigns that successfully banned fracking in New York and alerted the public to the climate crisis, including the environmental impact of Bitcoin. Reflecting on his life, with tales of living in a commune, photographing riots and rock stars, working at Rolling Stone and High Times magazines rabble-rousing with Abbie Hoffman, and collaborating with presidents and celebrities, David tells the fascinating story of how he developed the strategies and tactics that have made him a successful media agitator. David then shows how these tools can be used by anyone to advance their cause. Part rollercoaster memoir, part practical guide, The Activist's Media Handbook provides an essential toolkit for today’s activists for organizing to win: how to tell your story, captivate audiences, and inspire them to join the cause.

Book The Oxford Handbook of the Economics of Networks

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of the Economics of Networks written by Yann Bramoullé and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 857 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of the Economics of Networks represents the frontier of research into how and why networks they form, how they influence behavior, how they help govern outcomes in an interactive world, and how they shape collective decision making, opinion formation, and diffusion dynamics. From a methodological perspective, the contributors to this volume devote attention to theory, field experiments, laboratory experiments, and econometrics. Theoretical work in network formation, games played on networks, repeated games, and the interaction between linking and behavior is synthesized. A number of chapters are devoted to studying social process mediated by networks. Topics here include opinion formation, diffusion of information and disease, and learning. There are also chapters devoted to financial contagion and systemic risk, motivated in part by the recent financial crises. Another section discusses communities, with applications including social trust, favor exchange, and social collateral; the importance of communities for migration patterns; and the role that networks and communities play in the labor market. A prominent role of networks, from an economic perspective, is that they mediate trade. Several chapters cover bilateral trade in networks, strategic intermediation, and the role of networks in international trade. Contributions discuss as well the role of networks for organizations. On the one hand, one chapter discusses the role of networks for the performance of organizations, while two other chapters discuss managing networks of consumers and pricing in the presence of network-based spillovers. Finally, the authors discuss the internet as a network with attention to the issue of net neutrality.

Book The Organizational Resilience Handbook

Download or read book The Organizational Resilience Handbook written by Graham Bell and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2020-08-13 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For businesses to grow and be successful their approach to resilience must be defined by a holistic and risk-focused outlook, rather than one which is narrow and dominated by event-oriented continuity practices. The Organizational Resilience Handbook shows that success is as much to do with innovation and the speed with which new products are brought to market as it is with organizations having to deal with unexpected crisis situations. It comprehensively covers the full breadth and depth of the field and introduces related topics such as security, safety, e-commerce, emerging technologies and customer experience. Through adopting a strategic and progressive approach, practitioners can apply the book's methodology to develop an in-depth understanding of resilience within their own organization and use it to effectively engage with the board and senior management in developing strategies for achieving greater resilience capability. A range of high-profile case studies, such as Mercedes, the UK's National Health Service, Alibaba and BP, help to illustrate the concept of resilience by detailing characteristics and behaviours which confirm its meaning. The Organizational Resilience Handbook is a practical guide to self-assessment, benchmarking performance and implementing resilience frameworks in any organization.

Book The Equitable Cultural Tourism Handbook

Download or read book The Equitable Cultural Tourism Handbook written by Dr. Alf H. Walle and published by IAP. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to deal, in a provocative way, with a number of key issues involving the increased participation of the private sector within cultural tourism. My goal is not to write a complete overview of the field. Instead, this short book deals with a fairly circumscribed set of issues involving contemporary changes within cultural tourism. Since modern business largely focuses on serving customers, a major focus of this book concerns marketing thought and its implications in regard to cultural tourism. In large measure, this book seeks to help host communities and their advocates to become familiar with and comfortable within a private sector context as well as being able to interact in such an environment. The book starts with a two-chapter introduction that focuses upon the distinctive role of cultural tourism. As emphasized in chapter 1, a dilemma arises because cultural tourism must simultaneously serve multiple stakeholders and do so in equitable ways. This is much more complex than the more typical task of concentrating upon the needs, wants, and desires of customers. These ideas are refined in chapter 2 where the discussion centers primarily upon the importance of serving host communities, in addition to customers. Certainly, catering to customers continues to be an issue, but it should be envisioned as an ad hoc method of serving the host community.
