Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if Jesus was just an ordinary boy searching for enlightenment? In 8 AD, at the Temple of Jerusalem, the charismatic young Yeshua thrills his audience when God seems to communicate through him. While his listeners gush, not everyone is impressed. The priests scoff and say that no carpenter, however wise, can ever enter their holy ranks. Humiliated and robbed of his only dream, Yeshua resigns to a drab life as a laborer and even agrees to marry the wealthy maiden his father has chosen for him. One day, a Buddhist pilgrim tells Yeshua about a magical country called Sindh in the Far East, where anyone can become a monk, and an irresistible portal of hope opens. Torn between duty and following his bliss, Yeshua must now choose between honoring his parents or selfishly chasing his dream and bringing everlasting shame upon his family. Beautifully written, inspiring, and reminiscent of The Prophet, Siddhartha, and The Last Temptation of Christ. If you love thought-provoking fiction and are curious about the similarities between Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism, you will love this spiritually uplifting novel.

Book The Planetary Humanism of European Women s Science Fiction

Download or read book The Planetary Humanism of European Women s Science Fiction written by Eleanor Drage and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Planetary Humanism of European Women’s Science Fiction argues that utopian science fiction written by European women has, since the seventeenth century, played an important role in exploring the racial and gender possibilities of the outer limits of the humanist imagination. This book focuses on six works of science fiction from the UK, France, Spain, and Italy: Jennifer Marie Brissett’s Elysium; Nicoletta Vallorani’s Sulla Sabbia di Sur and Il Cuore Finto di DR; Aliette de Bodard’s Xuya Universe series; Elia Barcelo’s Consecuencias Naturales; and Historias del Crazy Bar, a collection of stories by Lola Robles and Maria Concepcion Regueiro. It sets these in conversation with key gender and critical race scholars: Judith Butler, Rosi Braidotti, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Paul Gilroy, and Jack Halberstam. It asserts that a key concern for feminism, anti- racism, and science fiction now is to seek inventive ways of returning to the question of the human in the context of increasing racial and gender divisions. Offering unique access to contemporary and historical women writers who have mobilised the utopian imagination to rethink the human, this book is of use to those conducting research in Gender Studies, Philosophy, History, and Literature.

Book Merchants of Labour

Download or read book Merchants of Labour written by International Labour Office and published by International Labour Organization. This book was released on 2006 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More workers are crossing national borders to look for jobs than ever before. Many migrants seek overseas employment with the help of agents or intermediaries. These "merchants of labour" include relatives who finance a migrant's trip, provide housing and arrange for a job abroad; public employment services; and private recruitment agencies. They also comprise an insalubrious underworld of smugglers and traffickers. The agents who recruit and deploy migrant workers are at the heart of the evolving migration infrastructure, i.e. the network of business and personal ties that is creating a global labour market. This book highlights best practices in the activities and regulation of these merchants of labour as well as innovative strategies to protect migrant workers, underlining the contribution of ILO standards. It covers a broad range of national and regional experiences and puts "merchants of labour" in the wider context of changing employment relationships in globalizing labour markets. The papers it contains are an important contribution to understanding a major mechanism facilitating the growth of the migrant labour force.

Book excerpt: This edited volume aims to problematise and rethink the contemporary European migrant crisis in the Central Mediterranean through the lens of the Black Mediterranean. Bringing together scholars working in geography, political theory, sociology, and cultural studies, this volume takes the Black Mediterranean as a starting point for asking and answering a set of crucial questions about the racialized production of borders, bodies, and citizenship in contemporary Europe: what is the role of borders in controlling migrant flows from North Africa and the Middle East?; what is the place for black bodies in the Central Mediterranean context?; what is the relevance of the citizenship in reconsidering black subjectivities in Europe? The volume will be divided into three parts. After the introduction, which will provide an overview of the theoretical framework and the individual contributions, Part I focuses on the problem of borders, Part II features essays focused on the body, and Part III is dedicated to citizenship.

Book Emerging identities in virtual exchange

Download or read book Emerging identities in virtual exchange written by Francesca Helm and published by Research-publishing.net. This book was released on 2018-07-08 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how identities emerge and are negotiated by young people in online facilitated dialogue, a form of virtual exchange. It offers a framework for this type of exploration based on the assumption that both the situated context and the technologies mediating online interactions influence, but do not necessarily determine, the interactions taking place and the participants’ identity orientations. Identity is viewed not as fixed and static, but rather multiple and fluid as interactants position themselves in relation to one another. This framework is then applied to the analysis of one specific virtual exchange context, and the interactions over several weeks of a group of participants from a wide range of backgrounds.
