Download or read book Along the Way written by Martin Sheen and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-05-10 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning nearly 50 years of family history, the book chronicles the remarkable lives of two creative talents, Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez. It's a story of father and son set against the backdrop of Hollywood; this narrative is organized around their physical and spiritual journey along the Camino de Santiago, Spain, the thousand-year-old pilgrimage path which traverses Galicia. It is the area from which Sheen's father emigrated to the U.S. and to which Estevez's own son has returned. Along the Waywill focus not just on the lives these men have chosen as artists, but also (and most importantly) on the one they have lived together. It is a story of family bonds and artistic advances and setbacks; of good choices and hard choices; of opportunities lost and opportunities found. Sheen and Estevez will share what they have experienced and learned from each other in their forty eight years as father and son, as fathers of sons, as actors and director, as spiritual seekers, and as concerned citizens of the world. Readers will meet them as real people rather than icons, as two men who have accumulated decades of wisdom and insight they are now ready to share.
Download or read book Martin Heidegger on the Way written by W.H. Werkmeister and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a publication of a manuscript left unfinished at his death by the author. From the time of their conversations in 1936, William Henry Werkmeister has studied the phenomenon of Martin Heidegger's thought and the critical literature commenting on it. During a period spanning 36 years, Werkmeister wrote some nine articles and reviews about his findings. He turned to other interests, but the Heidegger phenomenon continued to reside at the back of his mind. At age ninety, Werkmeister set out once again to write a work that would unify Heidegger's thought, clarify a number of its essential features, place Heidegger's chief works in an order that corresponds to the time line of his thought, critically appraise the development of his thought against the work of other German philosophers (particularly Nicolai Hartmann), and assess the question of Heidegger's alleged Nazi sympathies.

Download or read book Martin Luther s Two Ways of Viewing Life and the Educational Foundation of a Lutheran Ethos written by Leonard S. Smith and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like Leonard Smith's larger study, Religion and the Rise of History, this essay, Martin Luther's Two Ways of Viewing Life, asserts that Luther's well-known "at-the-same-time," simul, or paradoxical way of viewing life does not capture Luther's thought as a whole, because it does not represent his deeply incarnational and dynamic, mystical and holistic, particularizing and historical way of viewing life based on the power of the Word and the Spirit of God either in his own life or in human history. Smith contends (1) that the best way to capture Luther's "second" basic way of thinking and of viewing life is through the connected prepositions (connected especially for Lutherans) "in, with, and under"; (2) that this second basic way was based primarily on the Gospel of John and its great Prologue, which shows how God is acting, creating, and redeeming, and how Jesus is "the Word become flesh"; and (3) that understanding both of Luther's ways of viewing life is helpful for understanding Lutheran education and "a Lutheran ethos" since the sixteenth century. Since this brief essay is written primarly for a general audience, it can easily be used as a text or supplementary reading for a class, seminary, or group discussion.

This book was released on 2011-10-24 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are times in life when you suddenly begin to rethink your choices. For children's book author Davis Garner, such a moment comes when he finds himself hiding in a pile of dirty laundry, trying to avoid his landlord. . . Desperate times lead to desperate measures, and so Davis signs on to be a technical writer on a research vessel in Antarctica. What Davis knows about marine technology would comfortably fit in a tweet, but he soon realizes that no one around him is quite who they seem--including Maureen, an ice-cold network administrator partial to hacking others' emails; a lovelorn vessel technician known by the acronym Worm; and Artaud, a charismatic scientist with dubious motives. In between waves of seasickness and self-doubt, Davis finds creative inspiration and an unlikely passion for his new job. And something more unexpected still. . .the willingness to fight for the principles he believes in and the life he still loves. Praise for the novels of Chris Kenry "Kenry's masterful use of a disarmingly forthright first-person viewpoint invites readers' trust and keeps them turning the pages right up to the surprise ending." --Booklist on Confessions of a Casanova "The great leap to more substantial literary terrain feels but a book or two away for this talented author." --Publishers Weekly on Uncle Max "Well written with bold humor and witty asides." --Library Journal on Can't Buy Me Love The Survival Methods and Mating Rituals of Men and Marine Mammals is Chris Kenry's fourth novel. Much to his surprise, two of his novels have inexplicably been translated into Polish. He currently resides and writes in Colorado.
