Download or read book The Way Under Our Feet written by GRAHAM B. USHER and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2020-04-16 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walking is one of the simplest things we do as humans. It’s how most of us experience life. In The Way Under Our Feet, Graham Usher conveys how exhilarating it is to walk into the depths of our humanity. We become more ready to recognize the needs as well as the joys of others; we sift our thoughts; we seek to heal our battered world, even as we glory in the beauty of nature; we find ourselves companying with our three mile an hour God. ‘This is a lovely book, full of light, grace and meaning. Usher celebrates his passion for walking by exploring religious texts and stories, but this by no means confines his thoughts. We are drawn by secular texts, too: Macfarlane sits alongside Kierkegaard; Thoreau and Walden alongside T. S. Eliot. Through them all, we learn why walking is so unspeakably good for heart, soul and body.’ DAME FIONA REYNOLDS, MASTER OF EMMANUEL COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE, AUTHOR OF THE FIGHT FOR BEAUTY ‘Wonderful. Offers highly original and striking observations combined with apposite, moving and often humorous personal anecdotes. A classic, catching a genuine and humble holiness.’ BISHOP DAVID WILBOURNE

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a complex world filled with materialism and ego-driven needs, disconnected from our source. Time is speeding up as we rush about frantically, stuck in a race. We are enslaved by our conditioned minds, victims to a limited, subjective perception of life. Weve drifted away from harmonious coexistence with nature, spirit, and one another and are plagued by imbalance, unhappiness, and disease. But our souls are ever present, calling us home, and it is through encountering illness, loss, and adversity that we can transform and find our way to hope, love, and peace. Klara was one such being, empty and exhausted, running on autopilot and entirely missing the present moment. She has lived through trauma and chronic stress and became absorbed by illness, struggling with fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome. But the more the darkness set in, the stronger her desire for freedom became, bringing to light the secrets of healing. Come discover a passionate journey to self-discovery and healing. Reconnect with faith, love, self-compassion, and, most of all, your soul. Come see that freedom and joy is possible. Become inspired to begin an authentic path of healing of your own and reclaim your passion for life.

Download or read book The Sanctuary of Demeter and Kore written by Nancy Bookidis and published by American School of Classical Studies at Athens. This book was released on 2010-10-31 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth part of the Corinth volume dedicated to the Sanctuary of Demeter and Kore publishes the large-scale terracotta sculpture found in the sanctuary. Extending from the late 7th through the 4th century B.C., the sculpture consists of fragments from 132 to as many as 147 statues, from half- to nearly life-size. These are, for the most part, statues of young males, both draped and nude, although females and seated infants appear as well. Several introductory chapters discuss the types represented, the findspots and possible original placement of the sculptures, and the techniques involved in their construction. The fragments are presented in 156 well-illustrated catalogue entries. This volume greatly expands our knowledge of the history of Corinth, broadening our understanding both of cult practices at the site and of the manufacture of terracotta sculpture.
