Book excerpt: Most of the world is stuck in a trap due to fears of nonlove. From a newly fertilized egg birthed into the world of grown-ups, the incoming soul is challenged by the unconscious fears and suppressed emotions of the grown-ups who will be its teachers at the beginning phases of life. The fear consciousness developed and reinforced over time has created a world that lacks the necessary self-awareness for true spiritual growth. The letters throughout the book, written by the soul of a wounded and disconnected child, challenge the reader to face their own rejected and disowned parts as the reader is led into a deeper understanding of human consciousness and, finally, a healing process that reaches the level of the soul. The book provides an understanding of, and universal need for, authentic forgiveness and compassion, not only for the wounded inner child of the reader, but also the wounded inner child parts within the disconnected grown-ups that polluted the reader’s self-esteem. The book includes relevant research, client cases and the author’s own challenges of being raised by grown-ups who have failed to grow up, keeping her trapped in feelings of unworthiness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True story! "I spoke soothing words and touched her pale fingers. The silent weeping stopped." The baby's chest heaved as she struggled to breathe. Airway scarring rendered spoken language impossible. Heather wasn't my child, but her distress tattered my heart. Fourteen months old, the little one lay swaddled in a blanket, forgotten and lost amongst unchanging hospital routines. “Just be glad she’s only abandoned, not abused.” The words on the other end of the phone line stung. I wrestled with anger, but instinct quieted any sharp response. A chance meeting turned tragedy to miracle. I wrote the book about our search to give the voiceless child a family, to find a surgeon who could reconstruct her airway. Otherwise she would never speak, never swim. When I met her, she'd never been outside, never seen the sun, never seen the moon. She could not even move a finger. She'd always lived in a hospital on a breathing machine, fed by a tube in her tummy. No one dared dreamed she might survive and have a family of her own. Might we adopt her? Were the damning prophecies true? Sometimes dreams come true, more fantastic than envisioned. There is a newer subspecialty, pediatric otolaryngology. These ear, nose, and throat surgeons can restore voice and hearing. READ THE BOOK. WRITE A REVIEW. TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Enjoy the adventure of healing Heather and discover the miracle surgery that restores her voice. "This is a true story of hope, unconditional love, faith, as well as an exceptional family who would not take "No" for an answer. Ann writes beautifully with vision and descriptions that take you bedside with Heather, on family outings to the river, or just inside her home filled with laughter, scary moments with how fragile Heather was, the exhausting routine of life at that time, and finally the miracle of seeing Heather grow up." Kathy, Reader *** Diana Forrest. I'm reading this book now, can hardly put it down. Thanks be to God to her awesome Adopted family and to so many great Doctors and nurses. Heather is a living beautiful Miracle and a precious gift from God. Dec. 25, 2017 Janet Kortright rated it amazing. I could NOT put this book down. I read it in one night. Start to finish. I felt like I was part of the journey, the family. I will read this again and recommend it to others. A feel good story that shows they're are good people in the world. To advocate for children. To stand your ground to get the care needed for your children. Lynn, January 3, 2018 Voiceless Child is an amazing true story on the trials and tribulations in adopting a special medical needs child. A must read for all especially those who can relate to caring for and having a premature baby like me and my husband. Such a double blessing: For Heather - to be adopted by a loving family and getting a voice. For the family - the experience of adopting and providing medical needs for Heather that takes them on extraordinary life experiences of faith, hope, perseverance, joy, and love. Thanks Ann for sharing your true life experience! *** Heather’s story is heartwrenching, captivating, frustrating. I was impelled to read on to discover who would help or hinder her recovery. What I learned applauds the magical minds and hands of innovative surgeons. The inspiring story of perseverance is relevant to anyone who is facing a challenging obstacle. --Dar Walks Out, Lakota Sioux, Pine Ridge, South Dakota Voiceless Child is a thoughtful exploration of the grace and imperfections inherent in medical care systems and individual providers. Heather epitomizes the motivation for devising surgical procedures that eliminate a parent’s constant worry of death associated with airway disorders. -- Dr. Robin Cotton, director of pediatric otolaryngology, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Before the events evolved to the point whose impact could only be conveyed through a book, I published it as an article, “The Child No One Wanted” in Woman’s Day. “We’ve had a terrific reaction to it. Our readers really loved the story.” --Jane Chesnutt, then editor-in-chief of Woman’s Day.

Book The Soul of Care

Download or read book The Soul of Care written by Arthur Kleinman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A moving memoir and an extraordinary love story that shows how an expert physician became a family caregiver and learned why care is so central to all our lives and yet is at risk in today's world. When Dr. Arthur Kleinman, an eminent Harvard psychiatrist and social anthropologist, began caring for his wife, Joan, after she was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, he found just how far the act of caregiving extended beyond the boundaries of medicine. In The Soul of Care: The Moral Education of a Husband and a Doctor, Kleinman delivers a deeply humane and inspiring story of his life in medicine and his marriage to Joan, and he describes the practical, emotional and moral aspects of caretaking. He also writes about the problems our society faces as medical technology advances and the cost of health care soars but caring for patients no longer seems important. Caregiving is long, hard, unglamorous work--at moments joyous, more often tedious, sometimes agonizing, but it is always rich in meaning. In the face of our current political indifference and the challenge to the health care system, he emphasizes how we must ask uncomfortable questions of ourselves, and of our doctors. To give care, to be "present" for someone who needs us, and to feel and show kindness are deep emotional and moral experiences, enactments of our core values. The practice of caregiving teaches us what is most important in life, and reveals the very heart of what it is to be human.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can you imagine not being able to speak or communicate? The silence, the loneliness, the pain. But, inside you disappear to magical places, and even meet your best friend there. However, most of the time you remain imprisoned within the isolation. Waiting, longing, hoping. Until someone realises your potential and discovers your key, so your unlocking can begin. Now you are free, flying like a wild bird in the open sky. A voice for the voiceless. Jonathan Bryan has severe cerebral palsy, a condition that makes him incapable of voluntary movement or speech. He was locked inside his own mind, aware of the outside world but unable to fully communicate with it until he found a way by using his eyes to laboriously choose individual letters, and through this make his thoughts known. In Eye can Write, we read of his intense passion for life, his mischievous sense of fun, his hopes, his fears and what it's like to be him. This is a powerful book from an incredible young writer whose writing ability defies age or physical disability - a truly inspirational figure. Book The Ladies Repository

Download or read book The Ladies Repository written by and published by . This book was released on 1867 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of this women's magazine originated with Samuel Williams, a Cincinnati Methodist, who thought that Christian women needed a magazine less worldly than Godey's Lady's Book and Snowden's Lady's Companion. Written largely by ministers, this exceptionally well-printed little magazine contained well-written essays of a moral character, plenty of poetry, articles on historical and scientific matters, and book reviews. Among western writers were Alice Cary, who contributed over a hundred sketches and poems, her sister Phoebe Cary, Otway Curry, Moncure D. Conway, and Joshua R. Giddings; and New England contributors included Mrs. Lydia Sigourney, Hannah F. Gould, and Julia C.R Dorr. By 1851, each issue published a peice of music and two steel plates, usually landscapes or portraits. When Davis E. Clark took over the editorship in 1853, the magazine became brighter and attained a circulation of 40,000. Unlike his predecessors, Clark included fictional pieces and made the Repository a magazine for the whole family. After the war it began to decline and in 1876 was replaced by the National Repository. The Ladies' Repository was an excellent representative of the Methodist mind and heart. Its essays, sketches, and poems, its good steel engravings, and its moral tone gave it a charm all its own. -- Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.

Book excerpt: This will not be like any other Devotional you have read, for this is not a book that you read in your intellect. It is a Chapter in the book of Life YOUR LIFE. God is summoning you to a higher place of understanding. We have the blessing of the Word of God that was written by men who were under the Anointing. They did not know at the time of their writing that they were writing what would become known as the Holy Bible. The Apostle Paul simply wrote love letters to those of whom God assigned him to minister to. He did not know that his letters would be baptized with the fire of God and save thousands of generations. His life, all the triumphs as well as the failures of his life became an open book, and so is yours. Kings, Shepherds, Judges, Warriors, even Gods enemy has a page in the book of life. Your story is life as well and it is being written by the angels. In reality the Book of Life has three parts, and they are The Old Testament, The New Testament and the Book that Jesus spoke of in heaven called the Lambs Book. This Book, The Lambs Book is the Third Book, and you are among the number characters in that book. Mal 3:16 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. Live Holy because the Angels are keeping notes. They are writing your every experience, your every failure, triumph, your every praise is being written at this very moment and one day your name will be called and the book will be opened and you will have to give an account for the things you have done. This devotional will be included in the Third Part. Read and Grow thereby. God is watching and the Angels are writing as the Saga of Holiness Continues.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Care of Souls is a collection of essays and short reflections on the art of pastoral supervision in the clinical pastoral education (CPE) learning process. The essays focus on different aspects of supervisory theory, and are juxtaposed with reflections on the raw helplessness of both the patient and the chaplain, which can occur at the bedside. This collection highlights the critical importance of self-awareness, the inexact art of caring, and the hard necessity of listening to another person’s pain.
