Book The Venus Calendar Observatory at Aztec New Mexico

Download or read book The Venus Calendar Observatory at Aztec New Mexico written by Allan III.. MacGillivray and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between the 10th and 14th century's AD a grand civilization developed in what are now the 4 corners of the USA, encompassing approximately 10,000 square miles. Many scholars have studied this "Chaco Phenomena" and have ascertained that there was great influence from cultures of the South in what is now Mexico and Guatemala. Parrots, Macaws, cacao certain iconography and burial effects found in the Chaco Domain are consistent with materials mentioned in the Mayan Popol Vuh describing specific attributes of Ahauship (kingship) in Meso-America. These items have been found within the Chaco Domain. Implicit in the above is the use of Meso-American calendrics, which eluded scholars until recently. MacGillivray has rediscovered the use of the Hubbard site by analysis of original site interpolated with Mexica, Mayan and Zapotec; cosmological records of the Dresden Codex interfaced with the Tzolkin, showing a astronomical continuum in architecture and "day keeping traditions" for millenniums which is expressed in the Chacoan Tzolkin. The Aztec ruins in N.M. are of paramount importance in this ancient American tradition. Although having been "backfilled" years ago, the Hubbard tri-wall at Aztec, N.M. through archaeological documentation and new research proves itself to be a Venus calendar. Venus is very important in Indigenous cosmology as it represents Quetzalcoatl / Sacred Plumed Serpent, harbinger of the sun. The knowledge of Venus cycles shows advanced astronomical knowledge at Aztec suggesting that a specialized group of Shaman/Priests did live there, "the day keeper's and diviners" of the later Chaco Domain. The Hubbard Venus Calendar and Chacoan Tzolkin gives us a glimpse of what cosmology future scholars will find embodied in the two unexcavated tri-walls at Aztec on the Animas and else where in the Chaco Domain and Pan America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative introduction to the fascinating topic of archaeoastronomy—ancient peoples' understanding and use of the skies. Ancient Astronomy: An Encyclopedia of Cosmologies and Myth draws on archaeological evidence and oral traditions to reveal how prehistoric humans perceived the skies and celestial phenomena. With over 200 entries, it offers a number of ways to approach ancient astronomy, from key examples and case studies worldwide (Stonehenge; Mexican and Egyptian pyramids; Chaco Canyon, New Mexico; the Nazca lines in Peru) to general themes (cosmologies, calendars, ancient ideas of space and time, origin myths), to fundamental concepts and methods (how the sky has changed over the centuries, how to survey a site), and to the field's most frequently asked questions (How did ancient peoples navigate the ocean using the stars? How does astrology relate to ancient astronomy? Can ancient sites be dated astronomically?) By revealing the astronomical significance of some of the world's most famous ancient landmarks and enduring myths and by showing how different themes and concepts are connected, Ancient Astronomy: An Encyclopedia of Cosmologies and Myth brings a unique authoritative perspective to an area too often left to speculation and sensationalism.

Book Christ and the Maya Calendar

Download or read book Christ and the Maya Calendar written by Kevin Dann and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cosmic Christianity describes the relationship between the earthly and supra-earthly cosmic worlds by showing the relationship between the cosmos--as expressed in the movements of the stars--and the activities of Christ during his three years of ministry on Earth. The "gesture" of each astrological planet during those years is worked out and correlated with specific acts of the Christ as recorded in the Gospels. The apparent "looping" movements of Mercury, for example, are connected with the "seven signs" of St. John's gospel. The author goes on to explore the many ways in which these healing acts, which have been inscribed in the heavens, continue to work in evolution through the events of history and through our individual human lives. By studying this, we begin to understand our responsibility for developing the new Christian mysteries and, consequently, renewing the starry cosmos. Sucher presents a real foundation for modern star wisdom. Topics include the evolution of cosmology; the origins of the planetary symbols; our new relationship to the stars as revealed in human lives and historical events; and the role of the Archangel Michael in our individual relationship to the stars. This is an excellent place to begin one's study of the stars and their meaning for both our individual lives and for the world.

Download or read book Exploring Ancient Skies written by David H. Kelley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-16 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Ancient Skies brings together the methods of archaeology and the insights of modern astronomy to explore the science of astronomy as it was practiced in various cultures prior to the invention of the telescope. The book reviews an enormous and growing body of literature on the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean, the Far East, and the New World (particularly Mesoamerica), putting the ancient astronomical materials into their archaeological and cultural contexts. The authors begin with an overview of the field and proceed to essential aspects of naked-eye astronomy, followed by an examination of specific cultures. The book concludes by taking into account the purposes of ancient astronomy: astrology, navigation, calendar regulation, and (not least) the understanding of our place and role in the universe. Skies are recreated to display critical events as they would have appeared to ancient observers--events such as the supernova of 1054 A.D., the "lion horoscope," and the Star of Bethlehem. Exploring Ancient Skies provides a comprehensive overview of the relationships between astronomy and other areas of human investigation. It will be useful as a reference for scholars and as a text for students in both astronomy and archaeology, and will be of compelling interest to readers who seek a broad understanding of our collective intellectual history.

Book Foundations of Modern Cosmology

Download or read book Foundations of Modern Cosmology written by John F. Hawley and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-07-07 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent discoveries in astronomy, especially those made with data collected by satellites such as the Hubble Space Telescope and the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe, have revolutionized the science of cosmology. These new observations offer the possibility that some long-standing mysteries in cosmology might be answered, including such fundamental questions as the ultimate fate of the universe. Foundations of modern cosmology provides an accessible, thorough and descriptive introduction to the physical basis for modern cosmological theory, from the big bang to a distant future dominated by dark energy. This second edition includes the latest observational results and provides the detailed background material necessary to understand their implications, with a focus on the specific model supported by these observations, the concordance model. Consistent with the book's title, emphasis is given to the scientific framework for cosmology, particularly the basics concepts of physics that underlie modern theories of relativity and cosmology; the importance of data and observations is stressed throughout. The book sketches the historical background of cosmology, and provides a review of the relevant basic physics and astronomy. After this introduction, both special and general relativity are treated, before proceeding to an in-depth discussion of the big bang theory and physics of the early universe. The book includes current research areas, including dark matter and structure formation, dark energy, the inflationary universe, and quantum cosmology. The authors' website (http://www.astro.virginia.edu/~jh8h/Foundations) offers a wealth of supplemental information, including questions and answers, references to other sources, and updates on the latest discoveries.

Book Maya Cosmogenesis 2012

Download or read book Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 written by John Major Jenkins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 1998-08-01 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While researching the 2012 end-date of the Maya Calendar, John Major Jenkins decoded the Maya's galactic cosmology. The Maya discovered that the periodic alignment of the Sun with the center of the Milky Way galaxy is the formative influence on human evolution. These alignments also define a series of World Ages. The fourth age ends on December 21, 2012, when an epoch chapter in human history will come to an end. Maya Cosmogenisis 2012 reveals the Maya's insight into the cyclic nature of time, and prepares us for our own cosmogenesis--the birth of a new world.
