Book The Vagus Nerve in Therapeutic Practice

Download or read book The Vagus Nerve in Therapeutic Practice written by Ann Baldwin and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vagus Nerve in Therapeutic Practice describes practical, science-based techniques that can be used to improve vagal performance with the goal of restoring and maintaining mind-body health. Aimed at complementary medicine practitioners and holistic healers such as massage therapists, biofield practitioners, nutritional therapists, aromatherapists and energy healers, it explains how practitioners can adapt their modalities to stimulate the vagus nerve, together with other cranial nerves and the limbic system, to enhance their clients' experience and improve outcomes. The book provides a clear understanding of the importance and benefits of self-regulating the autonomic nervous system, focusing on the vagus nerve. This nerve controls the stress response, regulates digestion, modulates the immune system, and releases an anti-inflammatory neurotransmitter, acetylcholine; when it functions inadequately, all of these systems can be adversely affected. By learning techniques to stimulate the vagus nerve, practitioners can help those experiencing low-level inflammation and emotional stress, including those with chronic diseases. Each chapter provides practical, evidence-based methods that can be used to stimulate the ventral vagal complex, illustrated by a case history from a complementary medicine or holistic practice. The author addresses the anatomy and evolution of the vagus nerve, including its possible role in promoting social engagement, using the polyvagal theory as a model. The functions of major branches of the vagus nerve and other neighbouring cranial nerves are discussed in turn; in each case the mechanism by which neural stimulation improves relaxation and health is outlined, and a practical way to engage the nerve branch and limbic system is described with the help of a case study. An addendum includes an easily referenced summary of the exercises described throughout the book, as well as routines for utilizing combinations of the exercises on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This book will enable healthcare professionals to attain a solid grasp of the clinical significance of regulating the vagus nerve and provide them with simple ways to do it.

The vagus nerve is the main element of the adaptive nervous system. Polyvagal theory details the structure and function of the distinct dual segments of the vagus, all of which arise in the medulla. The hypothesis was presented in 1994 by Dr. Stephen Porges; The Polyvagal Theory suggests that human beings have physical reactions, such as physiological and digestive changes, correlated to their body language. The divisions of the vagal nerve serve multiple biological stress reactions in mammals. In essence, the more simplistic branch induces immobilization behaviors (e.g., feigning death), while the more evolved is linked to social communication. Such functions obey a phylogenetic order, where the more basic structures are enabled only when, the more complex functions malfunction. Such neural circuits control the autonomic process and the transmission of emotional and social behavior. Therefore, according to this principle, the natural environment determines the expression of action and psychological awareness. The polyvagal hypothesis has a variety of consequences for the study of pain, anxiety, and social behavior. This book intends to cover all the aspects relating to the vagus nerve and Polyvagal theory. In this comprehensive document, you will be able to learn: - A brief introduction of the vagus nerve - An insight into Polyvagal theory - How neural pathways regulate the social behaviors and expression of emotions - How to active our vagus nerve - Self-help exercise to stimulate the vagus nerve - Impact of Polyvagal theory on Behavioral diseases Buy it Now and let your customers get addicted to this amazing book

Are you sick of "managing" yours symptoms instead of trying to heal your body? If so, you've come to the right place. The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in your body, connecting almost all of your major organs, from the brain to the colon. The first part of this book will explain the anatomy of the vagus nerve, how it functions in the body, and the different medical theories surrounding its healing power. The second part will explain how this nerve is related to a variety of different health conditions, from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to chronic inflammation. Most importantly, you now have the knowledge to take back control over your own health and wellness. You no longer have to settle for medical interventions that don't seem to work for you, nor do you have to depend on medication to keep your body functioning normally. Book Polyvagal Therapy and Vagus Nerve

Download or read book Polyvagal Therapy and Vagus Nerve written by James Paul Docter and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you struggling with chronic illness, PTSD, and depression? Are you chronically fighting with illnesses like anxiety, inflammation, fibromyalgia, or chronic fatigue? If so, you've found the right book. Learning about the polyvagal theory is learning about the science of security, the science of feeling safe enough to fall in love with life, and take the risk of living. The polyvagal theory provides a physiological and psychological understanding of how and why patients move through a continuous cycle of mobilization, disconnection, and commitment. Through the lens of the polyvagal theory, we see the role of the autonomic nervous system as it shapes patient safety experiences and influences their ability to connect. The autonomic nervous system does not respond to the challenges of everyday life by telling us what we are or who we are, but by telling us how we are. This system manages the risk and creates connection patterns by changing our physiological state. These changes can be slight for many people, and, at times, when there are significant changes of state, their system is resilient enough to help them return to a regulated state. Trauma disrupts the process of building the autonomous circuit of secure connection and diverts the development of regulation and resilience. Patients with a traumatic history often experience more intense and extreme autonomic responses, which affects their ability to regulate and feel safe in relationships. This book helps everybody to incorporate polyvagal theory into daily life. It provides a comprehensive approach to the intervention by presenting ways to map the autonomous response and configure the autonomic nervous system for safety. With this book, the polyvagal theory is at your disposal, and empirical records and exercises either. In this book, you will find: The Benefits of Vagus Nerve How to Stimulate the Vagus Nerve to Relieve Stress How to Improve the functioning of your body How to Daily Activate Your Vagus Nerve Several Vagus Exercises Anxiety Exercises to relieve the pain The book puts a lot of emphasis on friendship with the nervous system, presents the science of connection, and provides an essential fluency in the language of polyvagal theory. These chapters set out the crucial elements of the method, build a solid knowledge base, and set the stage for working with the clinical applications presented in the rest of the book. With this book, you will learn how to stimulate your Vagus Nerve with practical self-help exercises. You will overcome Anxiety, Chronic Illness, Depression, PTSD, Inflammation, and more with remedies that are already present in your body. ➚ Scroll up and click on "Buy Now"!

Are you aware that your body has secret healing abilities? And this is not the mainstream immune system that most people know about. These healing capabilities are made possible through the nervous system, and to be more specific, the longest and most complex of the 12 cranial nerves - the vagus nerve! Originating from the head all the way down to the abdomen and branching and wandering throughout the body, the vagus nerve encounters most of your vital organs from your brain, neck, chest, stomach and lower abdomen. I know you are wondering... So how are these health problems related to the vagus nerve? How does the vagus nerve interact with the different organs, glands and organ systems within the body? What is it that the vagus nerve does that connects it to various health problems? What's the science that links vagus nerve to health and disease? How do you tell that the vagus nerve has a problem that needs fixing? How do you tell that the problems you are facing have anything to do with the vagus nerve? What measures can you use to leverage the power of the vagus nerve to bring about better health? If you have these and other related questions about the vagus nerve, this book is for you so keep reading. More precisely, the book will teach you: The basics of the vagus nerve, including what it is, how it is structured, what it does, its location and more The ins and outs of the polyvagal theory in practice and where the vagus nerve comes in The three parts of the nervous system and why an understanding of these is critical as you heal your vagus nerve How injuries affect your nervous system and what to do about it How to move out of a nervous system shutdown using different strategies Social engagement/ventral vagal system, pain and relevant interventions Effective polyvagal solutions for dorsal vagal, freeze and dissociative pain How to leverage the power of the polyvagal theory and SMR therapy to deal with stress, anxiety, pain and more The various clinical applications of the polyvagal theory Everything you need to know aboutthe connection between yoga therapy and polyvagal theory And much more! Book Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Anxiety

Download or read book Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Anxiety written by Taunjah P. Bell Ph.D. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-08-05 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1997, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy (Cyberonics, Houston, Texas) was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of epilepsy refractory to antiepileptic medications. In 2005, VNS received FDA approval for treatment-resistant depression refractory to antidepressants, and Cyberonics recently received FDA approval for the clinical study of VNS for rapid cycling bipolar depression. Many researchers continue to investigate the anxiolytic effects of VNS in human and non-human animal models. The author presents a study of VNS effects on anxiety and the capacity of atropine methyl nitrate to attenuate these effects. The results indicate that VNS decreases anxiety in the laboratory animals tested. These findings provide evidence to support the testing and subsequent use of VNS therapy for the treatment of clinical anxiety in humans. Because many therapies that are effective in the treatment of depression effectively treat anxiety, VNS therapy should be effective and approvable for clinical anxiety. This book can serve as a research tool, training mechanism, or surgical guide to the implantation of the vagus nerve stimulating electrode in the laboratory rat. Hopefully, this resource provides information that facilitates FDA approval of VNS for treatment-resistant anxiety, a chronic, devastating and often debilitating illness.
