Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With penetrating insight, Abbot George Burke illumines the Upanishads' practical value for spiritual seekers. With a unique perspective from a lifetime of study and practice of both Eastern and Western spirituality, he presents the treasures of the Upanishads in an easily intelligible fashion. The sacred scriptures of India are vast. Yet they are only different ways of seeing the same thing, the One Thing which makes them both valid and ultimately harmonious. That unifying subject is Brahman: God the Absolute, beyond and besides whom there is no "other" whatsoever. The thirteen major Upanishads are the fountainhead of all expositions of Brahman. The word "upanishad" itself comes from the root word upasana, which means to draw or sit near, and is usually considered to mean that which was heard when the student sat near the teacher to learn the eternal truths. We do not know who wrote the Upanishads. This has a distinct advantage in that the image of a historical, finite personality does not intervene to obscure the revelation handed on to spiritual aspirants. The authority of the Upanishads rests not upon those who wrote them, but upon the demonstrable truths they express. They are as self-sufficient and self-evident as the multiplication tables or the Table of Elements. They are simply the complete and unobscured truth. And realization of that Truth alone matters.

Book Prepare to Awaken As Described by the Upanishads

Download or read book Prepare to Awaken As Described by the Upanishads written by Sukhdev Virdee and published by I Am Consciousness. This book was released on 2019-03-24 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hey, I understand that Brahman is the One Supreme Being and I also understand that my true nature is Brahman, but it still isn't a living reality for me as yet. I still feel limited to my body and mind. I still have fears, experience pain and sorrow and my life is still full of ups and downs. What am I missing or how can I make the understanding of Brahman a living reality for myself?" This is a question that most Vedanta students and seekers of the absolute truth through the path of knowledge ask frequently. There are hundreds of scholars who know the teachings of Vedanta in depth and can answer any question related to Brahman - the absolute reality BUT they haven't yet experienced that moment of enlightenment, the flash that unites one with God. It's because of quite a few factors which are not covered in Vedanta simply because it is the path of knowledge. This book is the 3rd part of the Series "I Am Consciousness." We highly recommend you read the first two parts before commencing this book. In Part 1 (See God With Open Eyes) Brahman is discussed in absolute details and by the end of the book, one can see Brahman everywhere, every time and in everything, without having to resort to blind faith or belief.Part 2 (I Am Brahman) makes it very clear beyond a doubt that You are One with that Supreme Being. Your true nature is Brahman and you are One with the entire Universe, in fact, the Universe arises and subsides within you!In this part, join David as Swamiji explains to him how to spiritualize his life without having to renounce everything and become a monk. He shows David the perfect blend of the 4 yogas, purification of the mind and practices that make spiritual awakening faster. Once the absolute necessities required are logically understood, David sees why most seekers are still seekers even after decades of practicing. The only thing between you and God is a false 'you'. This book explains and discusses how to identify, isolate and help merge the false identity back into the source. Join David on this incredible spiritual journey that will help you identify what you need to do to spiritually awaken and attain your birthright of enlightenment.

These words, uttered by Nachiketa's father in a fit of anger, initiate the adventurous journey of twelve-year-old Nachiketa to the celestial realm of Lord Yama, the god of Death. Using this storyline of the Katha Upanishad, and a creatively imagined dialogue between the student Nachiketa and his guru Yama, the author presents the essence of the Upanishadic wisdom in a lucid, easy-to-understand manner. The dialogue helps Nachiketa (and us) discover answers to his profound questions: What is the real aim of our life? What happens after death? What is Self-realisation? How does one get liberated? 'Very inspiring. I find it very useful. The immediate impact of the book on me is that I have become calmer, while continuing to be active, professionally and otherwise. I intend to read this book again and again.' - V S Raju, former Director, IIT Delhi 'Having attended the courses of Prof. Devdas Menon on Self-Awareness and Integral Karmayoga at IIT Madras, I clearly hear his voice, blended with his deep understanding, flowing through this book, thankfully free of difficult Sanskrit terms. I feel grateful to be introduced to the process of awakening!' - Christian Thaulow, Professor (retd), NTNU, Norway 'It is not easy to translate the wisdom teachings of the Upanishads in simple language. The author attempts to do this and comes out with flying colours. The dialogue adopted is fascinating and keeps the reader hooked till the last page.' - Subir Chakraborty, MD & CEO, Exide Industries Ltd

Book The Day of Awakening

Download or read book The Day of Awakening written by Tony Titshall and published by Revway Publications. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE DAY OF AWAKENING is a book of revelation and Self-discovery, challenging our misconceptions and inviting our self-inquiry. It deals with states of awakening to mystical consciousness and the true nature of man. It speaks of the path of initiation and includes examples of the highs and lows of every man's earnest endeavor to accommodate and adjust to himself as he goes through the inevitable changes encountered on the way to Self-realization. But before we can proceed on the path of enlightenment, there are aspects of the spiritual life that need to be understood, facets of every righteous man's journey, about which he may entertain false concepts and universal beliefs, such as: this world, healing, supply, mind, and body. In this book, a Mystic's Manual, all these are dealt with, as well as aspects of belief that assail man: what is Law, the effects of karma, understanding the nature of God, error, and prayer; meditation, forgiveness, and the truth of Individual Being. It contains the wisdom of the ages in simple, contemporary parable, poetry, and illustration, interwoven with Scripture. Like a germinating seed breaching the confines and limitations of its shell, it is the Call of Awakening, leaving us ultimately with no choice but to respond to the irresistible unfoldment of Soul, whose revelations of the moment lead man to an understanding of the truth of his being and his oneness with God. Life then becomes an awareness of the Living Word and not just words, such that thereafter everything speaks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of the twentieth century, a young crippled boy in North India met a spiritual teacher in the Nath tradition of the great teachers Matsyendranath and Gorakhnath, who imparted to him the precious knowledge of yoga meditation. The boy began to apply himself to this meditation practice and became a very unusual saint indeed.Gajanan Murlidhar Gupte, later known as Gajanana Maharaj, led an unassuming life, to all appearances a normal unmarried man of contemporary society. Crediting his personal transformation to the practice of the Soham mantra, he freely shared this practice with a small number of disciples, whom he simply called his friends. Strictly avoiding the trap of gurudom, he insisted that his friends be self-reliant and not be dependent on him for their spiritual progress. Yet he was uniquely able to assist them in their inner development.Gajanana Maharaj taught the ajapa-japa of the Soham mantra with the breath. In Light of Soham his teachings for success in Soham sadhana and spiritual life in general have been collected from the writings of himself and his disciples. An appendix by Abbot George Burke on the method of Soham Yoga gives detailed instruction on how to practice this method of meditation.

Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - The translator's idea of rendering the Upanishads into clear simple English, accessible to Occidental readers, had its origin in a visit paid to a Boston friend in 1909. The gentleman, then battling with a fatal malady, took from his library shelf a translation of the Upanishads and, opening it, expressed deep regret that the obscure and unfamiliar form shut from him what he felt to be profound and vital teaching. The desire to unlock the closed doors of this ancient treasure house, awakened at that time, led to a series of classes on the Upanishads at The Vedanta Centre of Boston during its early days in St. Botolph Street. The translation and commentary then given were trans-cribed and, after studious revision, were published in the Centre's monthly magazine, "The Message of the East," in 1913 and 1914.. Still further revision has brought it to its present form.

Book Sadhana

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 120 pages

Download or read book Sadhana written by Rabindranath Tagore and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-06-11 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embark on a spiritual journey with Rabindranath Tagore's "Sadhana," a collection of profound essays that delve into the understanding of self-realization, inner growth, and spiritual enlightenment. As a seminal work by the Nobel laureate, "Sadhana" draws from Tagore's profound understanding of the Vedantic and Upanishadic teachings to offer insights into the essence of human existence. "Sadhana," which translates to "spiritual practice," encapsulates Tagore's exploration of the journey of spiritual awakening and the individual's relationship with the universe. The book intricately weaves themes of love, humanity, and unity with the cosmos, advocating a sense of interconnectedness and oneness that transcends religious boundaries. With its thought-provoking discussions on concepts like the manifestation of the divine in everyday life, and the infinite within the finite, "Sadhana" invites readers to introspect, to explore their inner selves, and to aspire towards a higher state of consciousness. It proposes that true enlightenment and fulfillment come not from material possessions, but from understanding and embracing the infinite expanse of the cosmos within one's own soul. "Sadhana" is more than just a book; it is a spiritual guide for those seeking to understand the profound depths of their existence and their purpose in the universe. It invites the reader to look beyond the constraints of their physical existence and embark on a path of spiritual enlightenment. " Perhaps it is well for me to explain that the subject-matter of the papers published in this book has not been philosophically treated, nor has it been approached from the scholar's point of view. The writer has been brought up in a family where texts of the Upanishads are used in daily worship; and he has had before him the example of his father, who lived his long life in the closest communion with God, while not neglecting his duties to the world, or allowing his keen interest in all human affairs to suffer any abatement. So in these papers, it may be hoped, western readers will have an opportunity of coming into touch with the ancient spirit of India as revealed in our sacred texts and manifested in the life of today."
