This book was released on with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I believe in you,” Amélie says. She peers up at me, her eyes alight with passion and pain. “Even the ocean wasn’t wide enough to keep us apart.” June 6, 1944. Gazing over the ocean, Eddie sits on the edge of a stone wall overlooking the beach. The tide that had swept in now slowly ebbs, leaving behind it a beach full of dead. There is so much work to be done. The thought depresses me, but I know that I can’t dwell on it too much. If I am to survive the war and find my way to Amélie in Paris, I have to stay on my guard and be ready for anything. At the thought of Paris, I lean back. Memories of those moments remain with me even now. After almost five years of separation, the promises we made to each other remain. I need to find Amélie. First, I just have to survive one of the most significant battles we have yet to face, the one they are calling D-Day. Reaching Paris and finding Amélie has never felt so impossible… Amélie, Paris. Mama smiles at me and makes her way into the kitchen. The sweet smell of fresh tea and biscuits baking in the oven fills the air. I pour a cup for each of us and sit down opposite her, cupping my own steaming brew. “If he is the man you describe, I think he will be a man who pursues honour and does his duty for God and his country,” Mama says, stirring the tea ruminatively. “I can only pray that God keeps watch over him, wherever he is.” A gripping story of love against all odds, found in the most hopeless of places. This epic page turner inspires us that the pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again. Readers will absolutely love No Ocean Wide Enough

Book Eternal God Saving Time

Download or read book Eternal God Saving Time written by George Pattison and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting from the assumption that 'time is the horizon of the meaning of Being' (Heidegger), Eternal God/ Saving Time attempts to discover what the central religious idea of eternity or of God as 'the Eternal' might mean today. Negotiating ideas of divine timelessness and sempiternity (everlastingness) as well as the attempts of some philosophers to develop the idea of a temporal God, Professor George Pattison surveys a range of positions from analytic philosophy and from the continental tradition from Spinoza through Hegel to the present. Intellectual and cultural forces have tended to separate time and eternity, and both philosophical and theological examples of this tendency are examined. Nevertheless, starting from the experience of life in time, some modern thinkers have developed a new approach to the Eternal as what grounds or gives time. This leads through ideas of novelty, utopia, hope, promise, and call to the projection of a creative and transformative memory-remembering the future-that affirms human solidarity and mutual responsibility. Even if this cannot be made good in terms of knowledge, it offers a basis for hope, prayer, and commitment and these options are explored through a range of Christian, Jewish, Greek, and secular thinkers. This development re-envisages the idea of redemption, away from the Augustinian view that time is what we need to be rescued from and towards the idea that time itself might save us from all that is destructive and tyrannical in time's rule over human life.

Book Wild Unforgettable Philosophy

Download or read book Wild Unforgettable Philosophy written by Monad Rrenban and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2005 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through reading the early work of Walter Benjamin - up to and including the Trauerspiel book, Monad Rrenban brings forth a cohesive conception of the wild, unforgettable form, philosophy, as inherent in everything. Somewhat on the basis of existing philosophemes of Western metaphysics, Benjamin's well-known "esotericism" performs the transience of constraints of meaning. Both the form - free from duplicitous, authoritarian, and "rational" meaning - and the practice, of philosophy, enable production of the philosophical not only by so-called philosophers but also conceivably by everything - including art, poetry, and literature. In life and death, Walter Benjamin has and had the status of exile from departmental philosophy. Especially from Benjamin's early work, however, Monad Rrenban is able to elicit the force of the form, philosophy. Distinct in its analysis and depth of analysis, Wild, Unforgettable Philosophy in Early Works of Walter Benjamin elaborates the wild, unforgettable form - philosophy - in relation to language, the discipline and the practice of philosophy, criticism, and the politics of death.
