Book The Best in Tent Camping Texas

Download or read book The Best in Tent Camping Texas written by Wendel Additional Writerrow and published by Menasha Ridge Press. This book was released on 2009-08-18 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As with all books in this series, the campgrounds selected for The Best in Tent Camping: Texas had to meet three criteria: they had to be accessible by car but not overrun with RVs; offer great scenery; and be as close as possible to a wilderness experience. Texas, with its extraordinary diversity of ecosystems, made author Wendel Withrow’s search an exciting one. Divided into the state’s major geographical areas, the book is based on the author's 30 years’ experience in following the back roads of Texas. Along with a detailed profile and useful at-a-glance information, clear maps show campground layout, individual sites, and key facilities. Driving directions supplemented with GPS-based coordinates for each campground entrance make getting there a snap. Regional maps and a profile numbering system make the book easy to use and enjoy.

Book Best Tent Camping New York State

Download or read book Best Tent Camping New York State written by Catharine Starmer and published by Menasha Ridge Press. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wilderness abounds in New York State. From the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, from the Adirondack Mountains to the Catskills, from the St. Lawrence River to the Hudson, millions of acres of public lands are dotted with hundreds of campgrounds—but you probably only have a precious amount of limited time. Where should you go? When should you go? That’s what Best Tent Camping: New York State is for—to help you make the wisest use of your time in the wilds of New York. Divided geographically into seven sections—Long Island, Catskills/Hudson Valley, Central/Leatherstocking, Adirondacks, St. Lawrence River, Finger Lakes, and Western—the book is a helpful reference for camping enthusiasts throughout the state. Historical tidbits, descriptions of wildlife and the occasional personal anecdote add flavor to the campground descriptions. Star ratings and maps make choosing the best place to pitch a tent a simple task. Making reservations online or blindly over the phone can put a camper miles from the restroom, stranded with no shade, or in the middle of a busy campground trail. Maps will help campers avoid those pitfalls, and wherever possible the author has even recommended specific campsites for maximum privacy, spaciousness, or beauty.

Book Best Tent Camping Wisconsin

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kevin Revolinski
  • Publisher : Menasha Ridge Press
  • Release : 2013-04-22
  • ISBN : 0897329996
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book Best Tent Camping Wisconsin written by Kevin Revolinski and published by Menasha Ridge Press. This book was released on 2013-04-22 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best Tent Camping: Wisconsin, now completely updated for a third edition, continues to lead tent campers to the best of Wisconsin's varied recreational sites. Each profile includes a detailed campground layout map, GPS coordinates, descriptive text, and ratings for security, quiet, and beauty. Wisconsin is rich in both human and natural history. Originally settled by aboriginal Americans who used the ample rivers and lakes for travel, French voyageurs and United States pioneers followed, exploring a land shaped by glaciers and time. Green Bay and Prairie du Chien were settled first as furs, lead, and lumber attracted more settlers. The vast and varied landscape was evident to all who came to the Badger State. They saw sand dune-laden shores of Lake Michigan, lake-studded highlands of the North Woods, the ridges and valleys of the southwest, where the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers cut deep swaths through the land, and the deep gorges cut by dark, fast-flowing rivers forming waterfalls striving for Lake Superior. Today tent campers can enjoy these parcels, each distinct regions of Wisconsin. You can explore the surprisingly hilly terrain of Sidie Hollow, near the Illinois border. The bluffs of Perrot State Park overlook Minnesota. The central state has the remote and wild Black River State Forest, where timber wolves have reclaimed their old domain, with the quiet of East Fork campground returning you to nature. Here also are the big waters of Castle Rock Flowage, where Buckhorn's numerous walk-in tent camping sites await. A tent camper has to take two ferries to reach Rock Island State Park, Wisconsin's "furthest northeast" point. So many lakes dot Wisconsin's North Woods that you can literally camp on two lakes at once, such as Birch Grove campground in the Chequamegon National Forest, or Luna Lake/White Deer Lake campground in the Nicolet National Forest. And then there are the waterfalls of the North Woods. Marinette County calls itself the waterfall capital of Wisconsin. Two campgrounds in this book are situated along falls in Marinette County, with many other cascades nearby. Yet other falls are featured at other parks in this book. All this spells paradise for the tent camper. No matter what destination you have in mind, Best Tent Camping: Wisconsin is your indispensable guide.

Book The Definitive Journals of Lewis Clark From Fort Mandan to Three Forks

Download or read book The Definitive Journals of Lewis Clark From Fort Mandan to Three Forks written by Meriwether Lewis and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the time of Columbus, explorers dreamed of a water passage across the North American continent. President Thomas Jefferson shared this dream. He conceived the Corps of Discovery to travel up the Missouri River to the Rocky Mountains and westward along possible river routes to the Pacific Ocean. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led this expedition of 1804?6. Along the way they filled hundreds of notebook pages with observations of the geography, Indian tribes, and natural history of the trans-Mississippi West. In April 1805 Lewis and Clark and their party set out from Fort Mandan following the Missouri River westward. This volume recounts their travels through country never before explored by white people. With new personnel, including the Shoshone Indian woman Sacagawea, her husband Toussaint Charbonneau, and their baby, nicknamed Pomp, the party spent the rest of the spring and early summer toiling up the Missouri. Along the way they portaged the difficult Great Falls, encountered grizzly bears, cataloged new species of plants and animals, and mapped rivers and streams.

Book Alaska Having the Best Time I Ever Had

Download or read book Alaska Having the Best Time I Ever Had written by Larry S. Mikelsen and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-11-13 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a boy, I was lucky enough to be introduced an elderly gentleman by the name of Robert R. (Bob) Huttle (Mr. Huttle to me). I remember Mr. Huttle as a man of many interesting stories, and experiences. Mr. Huttle was a good friend of my father, and for quite a number of years was sort of an informal member of our family, being in attendance for Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, and any other family gatherings. His little home, along with its menagerie of exotic fowl in a little community called Annapolis, Washington was always a most fun place to visit. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid photographer with a genuine interest in people, who religiously recorded all that, was going on around him in his more than interesting life. The walls of his home were covered with pictures and memorabilia of that lifetime. There were times when Bob would take out his old picture albums and show my brother and me pictures of his times up in the State of Alaska. I always remember that these times seemed to be events he treasured, and each picture came with a story that would flow off his lips with obvious pleasure. After coming to America, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp., Bob spent 1933 - 1934 living his dream on the Alaskan Kenai Peninsula near what was then called Birchwood Creek (now Bear Creek) on Tustumena Lake, as a hunter and an amateur trapper (as he referred to himself). In January of 1937, Bob was hired as a patrolman with the Anchorage Police Department and 21 days later he had to give up his beat to come indoors as the Acting Police Chief, replacing the then seriously ill Chief of Police Ernie Amundsen.
